Johnny Weir To Hold Press Conference After Homophobic Remarks During Olympics
Shame on them!
After commentators made homophobic remarks about Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir during his free skate, he will be holding a press conference this afternoon in Vancouver to address the situation.
The Quebec Gay and Lesbian Council is demanding that two French-language broadcasters publicly apologize after making "outrageous" and "homophobic" statements about Johnny saying that he is damaging to figure skating's image and that he should be made to take a gender test!
Inappropriate!
Also in Australia, Channel Nine has been receiving viewer complaints after two hosts joked about Johnny's and other male skaters masculinity.
They should ALL apologize, but the fans have rallied behind Johnny to support him which he will also address in the press conference.
Sexuality has NOTHING to do with a person's athleticism and gay or not, Johnny is one hell of an athlete!

He is not damaging the sport of figure skating, but he has damaged his reputation, and perpetuated and provoked homophobic sentiment, with his over-the-top flamboyancy. While most accept a miniscule amount feminine joking that normally goes with the territory of figure skating, Johnny certainly enjoys drawing attention to himself (e.g., his own Reality show), which opens himself up to this intense scrutiny and being the butt of late-night-style jokes. While it has no place in sporting event commentary, he has no leg to stand on given the way he carries on.

I'm not sure how anyone at the Olympics actually had time to have a conversation about his sexuality. Aren't we here to come together as a world of nations and promote someone's athletic talents? Aren't they busy talking about his technique. I don't hear any homophobic remarkss made about Evan Lysacek and his feathers during his short porgram… and you know why.. because it doesn't matter because he was great. He got the Gold medal.. and Johnny came in the top 10 over all which is amazing. So really, let's not give these commentators any more attention than they deserve. They can talk all they want, but Johnny came out on top and that's all that matters.
Why apologize if your forced or if you actually believe what your saying? That is so insincere. I actually agree with the comments and do not think that they are outrageous and homophobic. Friends of mine were having a similar discussion watching the skating, about how we can not stand him, due to how flamboyant he is, and wishing him to lose. If your a good skater or athlete you do not need to resort to such lows to stand out. The Olympics should be about talent not some kind of fashion or over the top behavior.

If he can walk around town looking flamboyant, fly around, go on tv and get death threats from PETA of all people, he has bigger balls than any macho str8 male.. I heard the comments by the two men on French-Canadian TV and they were not homophobic, only amusing. Can't we make jokes about homosexuals, we make jokes about almost anybody these days. BTW as a tennis fan I have often heard or read terrible comments about French tennis player Amélie Mauresmo who had the courage to bring her GF to tournaments all over the world. She always ignored those comments. A press conference ? Gimme a break buster.
If you followed the olympics you would know that the two men have apologized. Second, by looking at this picture I'd say those comments were deserved, I mean sometimes he looked like lady gaga, like what the fuck, do you really expect that no one is going to say anything.

Eddie Maguire apologized to johnny for the comments that were made, saying they did not mean it to offend him in anyway. The trooper that johnny is, he accepted with a smile and joke.
