This video of Kirsten Dunst has just hit the Internets, which was commissioned by artist Takashi Murakami and directed by McG for an exhibit last year at the Tate Modern in London.

I'm with Kittykat on this one. I saw it last year at the tate; the annoying thing was it was on loop loudly in the space and in order to look at the rest of the room you had to endure that! Really annoying!

Takashi Murikami is huge into the "kawaii" or "cutsie" culture in Japan. It revolves around the theory that after both atomic bombs, the culture reverted to a re-birthed or child-like stage of innately knowing the joy in the world. Hence the colors and patterns that are worn by so many young people from Japan. Second, Anime is also a product of the kawaii movement.

If you are going to be critical of things so often - DO YOUR RESEARCH.

I agree with PeanutRoscoe. Murakami's art focuses on the cultural irony over their obsession with cuteness or 'kawaii'. It juxtaposes their patriarchal attitude even in today's society, and makes fun of the fact that they can be this obsession with the phenomenon of 'kawaii', yet are still among the largest consumers of violent and pornographic media in the world. The brief panty shot that Kristin gives during the piece also illustrates this…E.g How can something so cute be so dirty at the same time ?
