Evita Returns To Broadway With Madonna

We wish!

Eva Peron is Broadway bound once again as sources claim Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice are in the middle of finalizing a deal for the revival.

If all goes to plan, the show will open next year at the Nederlander theater and star a much-raved about Elena Rodger as the lead. Already, the native of Buenos Aires is receiving praise from the press for the role, as critics exclaim:

"Senorita Roger is big, big news. She's going to make this fine musical, oddly overlooked in recent years, a great hooter of a hit all over again."

She's no Madge, but we'll keep an open mind!

Looking forward to an Evita revival, are U?

she is a great! and what better than an ARGENTINA native to play Evita, she also played edith piaf at london, and it was a success!!! enjoy her!!!

    2. 2

Huh? I promise you the lead will have MUCH stronger vocals than Madonna. Madonnas version was a long video…it would have been much better with Patti Lupone.

Thank whatever gods there are. No Hagdonna.

      *

She made the movie terrible. She was stiff, bland, boring and beyond lame as an actor. She's not an actor. That's why her films always bomb. Only in the rare supportive roles does she seem decent, and that only because of the real actors.

As for this new production, it should be a major hit and forever wipe out the tainted miserable Hagdonna film.

get off madonna's balls mario - she doesn't like you

    5. 5

She's already played the role of Evita: I saw this production 4 years ago on the West End…

    6. 6

Yes, I'd like to see Evita revived. And I think that almost any real singer will be able to do better vocals than Madonna…

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MADONNA'S VERSION (I have the soundtrack memorized), but she isn't the strongest and most flexible singer.

    7. 7

I couldn't even watch the first 20 minutes of Evita…

    8. 8

I can't wait. Maybe a trip to The Big Apple just to see it. I hope the lead is as good as everyone is saying.

    9. 9

she is not madge. i love madonna. but elena is much better than madonna. her voice is incredible. sorry M.

    10. 10

Hagdonna can't sing. She messed up Evita and made it a flop. The Queen of Flops!

    11. 11

It was Patty Patti LuPone who made this role famous on Broadway, NOT, NOT, NOT that washed up LESBIAN!!!

    12. 12

Re: jesyrene – LOL ARE YOU A RETARD??? EVITA WAS NOT A FLOP! Madonna won awards for her performance in that movie and it was very well recieved. IF you people on here hate perez and hate on Madonna so much, whom he adores, why are you on this site?

    13. 13

I've never even heard of that chick. Madonna would be amazzzzzing!!!!! I'd kill to watch Madonna in that, but she's the Queen and we wont ever waych her play Evita again, unless we watch the dvd…

    14. 14

I'm guessing by "she's no madge" you mean "she's no godawful actress"?? Thank fuck for that, then.

    15. 15

I saw the West End revival of Evita in 2006 with her in it. She was ok but I really did not like it that much. Maybe because I saw Wicked and Billy Elliot a day or so before and it just does not hold up so well compared to them.

    16. 16

Re: madgesboi82 – Why do I go here? To laugh at people like you! LOL! I find it laughable that an old decrepit crone like Hagdonna actually has fans. LOL.

    17. 17

Elena Rodgers was actually in the London cast a few years ago, my dad and brother saw her.

The film Evita differs EXTREMELY from the stage show. The music was transposed for Madonna in a lower key because Madonna doesn't have the range that the role of Evita really requires. But, she is a big star so they wanted to make bank on a movie musical, especially when they weren't making them often.

    18. 18

Re: HungUpBoyToy – Mmm. Madonna doesn't have the range obviously to be in the stage show, considering all of her songs had to be altered. You don't realize how high Evita must sing in a chest/mixed voice. Madonna doesn't have the training, nor skill to legitimately go into Andrew Lloyd Webber's style of musical theater.

    19. 19

My God, to even consider Madonna for the revival is just plain ignorant. She does not have the voice to accomplish that role. Listen to the Original Broadway Cast with Patti Lupone. Madonna's version spoiled it for everyone who unfortunately, were not familiar with the Original Broadway cast. Evita has incredible music but it had to be watered down to accommodate Madonna's limited range. Also, Madonna's movie version played too much on the sympathetic side of Evita Peron - she was much more selfishly ambitious in the Broadway production.

Hagdonna was terrible in Evita. Her "acting" consisted of her constantly blinking and her nasally voice. No wonder the movie was a dud like every other film she stars in.

    21. 21

Re: madgesboi82 – Evita cost $55 million to make and another $55 million to market. It grossed only $50 million in the US. That, my dear, is a flop.

    22. 22

Re: madgesboi82 – We come here to make of of rotted cun*ts like Perez, Madonna, & you sweety ! Have a blessid ass day whore !

    23. 23

Re: Brainbug – I love how Madonna fans act like the majority of her acting/music ventures don't FLOP. They are delusional !

    24. 24

Re: madgesboi82 – Perez adores anyone who pays him the slightest bit of attention and gives him the recognition he craves. If you're an artists who won't give him the time of day and ignores his existence he'll post all negative things about them..

    25. 25

If Hagdonna has "fans", how come they cant send her songs to radio and the charts? The Queen of Flops!

    26. 26

I LOVE Evita! Madonna, Elena…Doesn't matter. I know every single song of the original play and the movie. I don't think you have to be a fan of Madonna to appreciate this musical. Love it, too bad I don't live anywhere near Broadway, otherwise I would totally watch it. :)

    27. 27

Intelligent readers need to know that Mad Donna made a HATCHET JOB out of Evita. It's true. Every legitimate movie critic knows that Madge the Vagisil is a TERRIBLE actress. She won a Golden Raspberry award for the dreadful remake of Swept Away. These are true statements that Mario Lardveranda will NOT report because Man Donald bought him off so very cheaply as he is a cloying ass kisser.

    28. 28

Once again you've made yourself a joke to the musical theater world. And her name is Rogers, not Rodgers.

    29. 29

are you fucking kidding me "she's no madge"…..THANK GOD FOR THAT. Madonna can't sing…the only believable part is that she couldn't close her legs on the way to the top. Anyone would be better than her.

    30. 30

Will you please get real. Madonna ruined the film of EVITA.
She could not sing ALW's brilliant songs, she cannot act,
and all she did was posture. If you want to know what a
real EVITA should sound like then listen to either the original London cast recording with Elaine Paige or Broadway's with
Patti LuPone. Madonna could not begin to match either one
of those women who have more talent in one finger than
"Madge" does in all of her body.

    31. 31

Madonna was born to play EVITA and nobody else will do it better. She totally deserved to win that Golden Globe.

    32. 32

      Re: Brainbug

Evita made over 200 Million dollars worldwide!

    33. 33

      Re: Madonna_#1fan_4ever!
Yeah, she won it in the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Category, and like your comment that she was born to play her, her performance was comedic at best. She deserved the award, because people were happy she didn't have to utter a single piece of dialogue in that annoying voice she adopts in her movies.
