A Worthwhile Cause

"The young refugees of Meheba Refugee Settlement are at once some of the settlement’s most vulnerable residents and most promising resources. Currently, many of these young people are unable to attend the local secondary school because of its location, costs, and discriminatory acceptance practices. Without the skills and opportunities an education provides, these young refugees are deprived of the resources that could transform their futures.
This project will fund the 2010 Meheba Scholarship Fund, a program that will enable eight young refugees, including two deaf students, to receive a quality secondary education. The project's scholarships will be given to promising students who would otherwise be unable to finish their education. Every recipient’s tuition, supplies, and transportation costs will be covered by the scholarship and also provide each with a small amount of pocket money. In addition, this project will encourage the progress of each selected student by providing supplementary tutoring. Become the Citizen Philanthropist for this project and invest in the educations and futures of eight promising refugee students."

I used to work with FORGE at this refugee settlement and it IS a worthwhile cause. The students there are so motivated and willing. This scholarship program is a great opportunity for them!
