Canada's Women's Hockey Team Parties On Ice!!

The Canadian women's hockey team beat the USA in last night's Olympic game, and celebrated like anyone would - by GETTING DRUNK on the ice!!
Apparently now the International Olympic Committee is all bothered by this and is conducting an investigation.
The Associated Press says:
Gilbert Felli, the IOC's executive director of the Olympic Games, says he was unaware of the incidents until informed by an Associated Press reporter. He says drinking in public by athletes at an Olympic venue is "not what we want to see" and not a good image for sports values. Felli says the IOC will talk to the international hockey federation and Canadian Olympic Committee and then "act accordingly."

The girls, however, issued and apology to cover their asses:
"The members of Team Canada apologize if their on-ice celebrations, after fans had left the building, have offended anyone. In the excitement of the moment, the celebration left the confines of our dressing room and shouldn't have. The team regrets that its gold medal celebration may have caused the IOC or COC any embarrassment. Our players and team vow to uphold the values of the Olympics moving forward and view this situation as a learning experience."
Smart move, ladies!! But don't let the man keep you down!!

They deserved a party. Maybe it should have been behind closed doors, but they were in THEIR house on Canadian soil and there were no drugs that I could see. The IOC needs to remove the stick from their butts and get on to more important things.

Have people not actually heard the stories about what goes on in the Olympics quarters, both Summer and Winter ???? Give me a break, these people are superior ATHLETES, they're not up for the Humanitarian award. They didn't break out some 40's and snort coke off the ice after their last shot. They celebrated after the fans left, they celebrated a tremendous amount of hard work and sacrifice to get to where they are. Classy? Who gives an ef? Who's to say what's classy and what isn't, it's hockey not ballroom dancing. They deserved to do whatever they wanted on the ice as far as I'm concerned, they earned it. Does one year make a difference between 18 and the 'legal' drinking age of 19….ummmm no. Congrats ladies, you played great and deserved the win and to celebrate!

It's my understanding that the arena had been emptied of the attendees and these athletes were not posing for media pictures so get over it already…… These Canadian women acted maturely and like good sports after the win. I am so disappointed that so many members of the American team had miserable scowls on their faces. Only one was happy & smiling - so happy to have won a silver medal in the Olympics. Be proud of what you accomplished ladies …. you played your hearts out and you should be very very proud of that.

They're not responsible for others high expectations and moral values. Do you HONESTLY think the teams care about that? I am absolutely appalled by the behavior the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team chose to act upon. As a collegiate athlete, and child of a retired professional athlete, the public activities the Canadian Women revealed to the public is not only distasteful, but as an athlete, one who acts with a consideration for fairness—ethics—respect—and a sense of fellowship with one’s competitors; the actions of the pictured women is a clear showing that the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team is unaware of the word “sportsmanship.” It is unfortunate an accomplishment as grand as not only being a chosen one to represent one’s country, but winning the Gold medal—can be tarnished by such a classless act.
So if they were THE MENS HOCKEY team I bet this would be okay. They just won gold in the olympics give them their celebration and move on

It was a great game! As a Canadian I am so proud of our women. They have won 3/4 of our medals thus far. It is however, very disappointing that the IOC has double standards. They didn't hassle our gold medalist, John Montgomery when he drank beer out of a pitcher (handed to him by fans) while making his way to the CTV interview booth after he won gold. BTW: John's victory walk was televised across Canada that night and he auctioned off the pitcher of beer after the CTV host suggested he should! The IOC needs to lighten up and treat everyone equally!
