Giuliana Rancic Discusses Fertility Problems
Giuliana and Bill Rancic appeared on The View yesterday to discuss their fertility problems and revealed that she will be starting IVF treatment next week after failing to conceive naturally.
Giuliana says:
“We are [infertile]. He got tested; his sperm was great. So there’s no reason [except] it’s all [my] age [35]. We always knew we wanted kids but our careers were really busy and we figured we can hold off for awhile. And we’re realizing it’s not as easy as we thought it was going to be.”
But apparently it's not all about Giuliana's age. She also said that her doctor recommended that she gain some weight, but she had issues with that saying:
“My diagnosis was I wasn’t ovulating consistently and so my doctor recommended that I gain weight in order to start ovulating consistently. He said five to 10 pounds, which I know isn’t a big deal but I had to bite that bullet because I work out every day of my life. I love feeling good, waking up, working out. I finally did gain five pounds.”
Oh, we bet Whoopi gave a big old eyeroll at that point!
GAIN THE WEIGHT, Giuls! You'll look so much better and you'll be that much more likely to have a baby - it's win-win!

being skinny can be a big issue and over exercising. Those two things cause the body to stop ovulation and refuse to become pregnant because her body is STARVING and will not be suitable to grow a baby in that rickity bag of bones. Girls got a problem. The IVF may not take either.

In other words, we eat first to survive, then to grow, then to reproduce. Looks like Guiliana is not even making it past the first stage like many female celebrities. Most skinny women can reproduce bcause they are meant to be that thin. When you are not and you starve yourself and exercise like a fiend, it takes a toll on your body aka you can't have kids. You'd rather spend $10,000 than eat an extra sandwich? BTW, nice piece about Bill's sperm beng fine. I'm not totally convinced though, like they'd really come out and say his swimmers were fucked up.

OMG she is such a silly little twit! She looks disgusting at that low weight, and if she isn't ovulating regularly its because her body has gone into starvation mode. I saw another site posted her diet and exercise routine (from her personal blog) and it was horrifying. No one could live off of that… She must take in about 800 calories a day and she runs every morning as well. Not good for you! Homegirl needs to gain 15-20 lbs, not 5!!! Christ!

Overexercising daily, and her complete obsession with her weight and appearance put her at risk for anorexia (if she doesn't already have it). The reason she can't get pregnant likely has nothing to do with her being 35, but rather with the fact that her body is starving. When the body doesn't have enough nutrients, it does a scan and determines which non-essential processes it can stop delivering energy to so that it can keep us alive. It's not going to shut off your liver or heart because those are essential to survival, but the reproductive system is not…so no energy or nutrients get delivered there and it shuts down. To solve her problem she just needs to EAT more and stop exercising. She can save the 10 grand on IVF and have some pizza…way tastier and cheaper! She should then take some of the money she saves on IVF and invest it in some therapy so that she doesn't pass on her obsession with her appearance to her future child.

I have tried watching their reality show, but this couple is painfully boring to watch….I will say that if you really want to have kids why hesistate about gaining 5-10 lbs? The first step to becoming a parent, in my opinion, is putting aside your vanity. Also, I think she could benefit from a little weight gain.

Why would the body conceive or maintain a pregnancy when it obviously doesn't have enough body fat to sustain it? Curvy women are more fertile. Period. It's just plain common sense. If her employers cease to back her with a modest 10 lb. or more weight gain, she shouldn't work for them, or she doesn't want a baby enough.

I don't feel bad for her one bit. She doesnt want to gain the few pounds cause she is so into her looks. I mean she does work at E! afterall. I think it's great that she has spoken out about this subject. Many Hollywood types want everyone to believe that all of their twins are natural….ah, ok. As a person who has gone through IVF, it is definitely not fun or easy. Good luck to these two!!

I do think it has to do with weight — a baby needs nutrition and healthy fat. I am glad she is following the doctor's advice.

I was too skinny and overexercised when I tried to get pregnant. After 10 months, I gained five pounds and cut down my routine to 30 mins. a day, five days a week. I got pregnant a month later. Do it girl!
Hint: if you're too skinny for your body to function naturally and the skinniness is not due to a disease but your own foolish vanity MAYBE you aren't ready to be a good mother. A child is a PERSON, not an accessorie to be purchased and fit into your schedule.

Being 35 years old is not too old to have a child. I had my three girls at 35, 38, and 45 years old. My youngest girl will be a year old next month. I got pregnant naturally, but I guess having children in the 40s in my family is not rare though. I hope she is able to have a child.
