Growing Pains Actor Hanged Himself, Reports Say
Reports now say former Growing Pains actor Andrew Koenig was found hanged from a tree when his lifeless body was discovered in Stanley Park on Thursday.
Sources close to Koenig say the actor "didn't want to be found" and the 11-person search party composed of Andrew's family and friends "dreaded" what they were going to find in the park.
Andrew's mother and father have asked for people to donate to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline or U.S. Campaign for Burma in Andrew's honor because Koenig was a man who "cared deeply about others… working on a grass roots level to help those in need."
It's still so sad.
Our thoughts continue to stay with the Koenigs.

this is a sad story….but orthographically…shouldn't it read: "hung himself". People in the media should be more careful with their writing…it influences the way young readers then compose their own writing.

Sad. I do find it awesome that by the grace of faith the parents are supporting the suicide line for help. Maybe then his death could save someone in potential danger of harming themselves. Then Andrews death would not be in vain. Hell maybe even more than one person. Rest in peace.

Re: beavis1995 – What makes a person "so damn depressed" is often chemical. I've battled depression on and off my entire life, even though consciously I know I have NO REASON to be depressed, it still gets the best of me more often than I'd like. Unless you've been there, you'll never understand.
Even though he is a celebrity, i dont think its appropriate for you to share details of his death on an entertainment website. That is information for the family to share if and when they wish to. Show more respect!

My deepest condolences to the Koenigs. I just hope Andrew is now at peace and that his family finds the same someday. I know this is just so incomprehensible to them. RIP, Andrew!!

Before you criticize Mario/Perez: Here is a usage note on the word "hang" from the American Heritage Dictionary:
"Hanged, as a past tense and a past participle of hang, is used in the sense of "to put to death by hanging," as in Frontier courts hanged many a prisoner after a summary trial. A majority of the Usage Panel objects to hung used in this sense. In all other senses of the word, hung is the preferred form as past tense and past participle, as in I hung my child's picture above my desk."

Where Andrew would have made his peace is off the beaten path and respectful. Not the choice I would have made, and my heart breaks for him, but "nitelifestyle" get a life — better yet, get back on YOUR meds. Anyways, that would be horrible to be searching for someone your pretty sure your going to find dead and knowing your going to see their body and then actually finding it. I couldn't imagine what that would be like. I wish depression had a cure instead of meds and thearpy but if someone does have depression than they should get help.
Its sad that Andrew didn't want to be found. I don't think he wanted to hurt the people that cared about him but I think he just wanted the pain to go away.

My prayers and condolences to Walter Koenig and family, and his son's friends. Andrew didn't want to take any drugs so hanging makes sense. He loved nature and this was a place of comfort for him. He was deep in the woods so did try to conceal his suicide as much as he could. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. ALL problems are temporary. The problem with psychiatric meds are side effects can BE depression and suicidal ideation (even if none existed before). Andrew stopped taking his meds a year ago because he didn't want to be on them. However, unless one completely detoxes from all drugs (legal and not) and actively pursues non-drug therapies, it may be more possible to fail than to succeed. There are psychiatrists who use diet, supplements, exercise and talk therapy first and drugs as a last resort but there aren't enough. Some are Gabriel Cousens, David Burns and Daniel Amen. They have books one can read about their therapies. Also, the self-help group Recovery International based on the teachings of Dr. Lowe can be very helpful.

Re: organicgal – while I respect your opinion, I do think some forms of depression are not "temporary problems" as you call them. Some people struggle for years battling a severe depression, trying every kind of therapy/medication without avail.
If he cared so deeply for others, he wouldn't have hanged himself from a tree in a public area. If he didn't want to be found, he could have swam out into the ocean and drowned. Depression is awful, but if you're going to off yourself, think of the others left behind. Don't make your decision to die a nightmare for others to find.

My best friend committed suicide, she had been suffering from severe depression since the age of 18. She told me one day that if she was still depressed 10 years from now she would kill herself. Things did not improve, she tried medication, yoga, acupuncture, you name it, her depression would not leave her. When she put an end to her life I was happy for her, I thought at last she was no longer suffering. Andrew Koenig's parents need to remind themselves that their son had every right to take his own life and put an end to his misery. Who knows, maybe that's the way they see it too or will see it in the near future. Life is sometimes horrible and unfair. Peace be with them all.
