Upon hearing the entire world had "figured out" that the 1971 hit was about label boss David Geffen, Carly Simon couldn't keep quiet!

For someone who wants to be a judge on AI, you need to pay better attention to what's already out there.l She already said who it was in the janet jackson song where they collaborated. She said the apricot scarf belonged to mick. mick is not mentioned anywhere in the song she said as well but it belonged to him. then she said in an interview about that JJ song that the other crap about the hat tilted to one side belonged to warren beatty.

2. 'You're So Vain' is not 'her 1971 hit', as it was written, recorded and released late in 1972, hitting number one in early 1973.

I seem to remember a documentary, where she was speaking about some poncy dou choo choo who walked into a party she was attending, and she caught them preening in the mirror. Probably it is half the people the industry runs into., and I've met a few too for sure. I don't remember in that interview I saw that she mentioned it was about anyone in particular. More about an attitude, but what a great song!!!!!

Carly Simon is one of the most prolific artists out there. She's been releasing albums almost non-stop for the last 39 years, some of them reaching the top 20 on the Billboard Album Charts just in the last decade alone. The fact that people are still talking about this song disproves any irrelevancey theories.

I love this woman though, and her music.
She's always said it was a composite of different men in her life. But why does everyone think the song has to be about someone specific? I love that she's keeping people guessing after all these years, but for all we know, she could have just wrote a clever pop song just for the sake of it.
Numbers 4,6,9 and 20, on the tip; when you write, who cares, or, they're irrelevant, you just made them so. 30 odd years after song's debut, apparently it still is relevant and people still do care. When people don't care about something, or think something is irrelevant, then they don't comment.
I believe, wether she denies it or not, that it was INDEED about Warren Beatty. She is, understandably, trying to keep the mystery going. The song REEKS of him, his ways and the women around him at the time. Geffen was and IS gay. He would not have been with "the wife of a close friend"—at least not in his private life!

On a side note, I highly doubt it's Mick Jagger as he sings on the track and I also highly doubt James Taylor as she married him and had two kids by him (he also doesn't seem to exude that type of 'vanity.')
