Sued! Mel B Mistakes Home Appraiser For Paparazzi!
And she could be paying for it — big time!
Real estate appraiser Amado Aguirre was photographing Spice GirlMel B.'s Southern California home as she was sent looking for homes of similar value to the one he was hired to appraise.
Little did he know it was a celebrity's home and that they can and WILL attack!
Mel was walking the dog when she noticed Aguirre taking the photos and she essentially sicked her husband Stephen Belafonte and another of her employees on the guy! Belafonte violently went after his camera and Aguirre was seriously injured in the confrontation!
Crazy!
Naturally Aguirre is suing the shiz out of her and we hope he gets some ca$$$h — the poor guy was just doing his job!

you know what …i think this is crap ! if i went outside and took pics of my neighbors' house i'm sure they'd ask question and probably wouldn't be to happy about it. great this guy was doing his job and sad that this happened to him, but maybe he should've knocked on the door and informed them or something …it's his fault he got the sh!t knocked out him.

You have to ask permission to photograph a house. I hope she countersues the douche and wins millions!

Sorry, I think these two are twats but I am on their side here - I wouldn't like some random on the street photographing my house (esp with kids in the home). If I were a celebrity I would like it even less…

And also try having camera in your face, like literally in your face then talk about showbiz. Paps should back off, at times they even hurt the kids physically but it showbiz right? Maybe if these paps gave them a little space, stop stalking them, watching their every move. even whilst taking a shit, violence would reduce. I also can’t wait for children to be kidnapped or something due to paps taking photos of celeb homes. I can literally plan a way to get in some houses b/c of some photo but hey who cares right? Let them take photos of everyday life, let them take photos of kids, who cares b/c perez and other stupid websites want them! This man would have asked permission if he was doing to other houses, why didn’t he ask for permission? As for the real paps, I approve of violence towards these fuckers who think it is okay for them to follow celeb and their children. In celeb faces, 24/7! Over what? And if "they are not special" then why do they have to have camera on their faces and children's faces? If they are not so special then why do we need a photo of them. Paps are losers that need a real job, or go follow celeb wannabes like Jon, Kate those asking for attention.
You do NOT have to give permission for someone to photograph your house. Anything that is easily visible from the public right-of-way (i.e. a street or sidewalk) can be photographed. As long as the man was not on their property when the photos were being taken, he was within his rights to do so. Keep in mind, if you have no curtains and you are stripping naked in front of your window, people can take pictures of you…legally.
My dad is a real estate appraiser and it's perfectly legal to take pictures of your house without your permission. It's like ohpleaseshutup said, it's an exterior.
Think about the nightmare it would create if you weren't allowed to photograph privately owned buildings. These aren't used for anything negative- generally just as a comparable property. Always ordered by the bank or financial institution who handles the sales.

yall are stupid , the appraiser is actually very well protected by the law , and has a lic in appraiser therefore if looking for comparable he or she CAN take a photo of a house WITHOUT PERMISSION i work in a appraisal department ,and appraisers are very well protected from shiz like this mel b is not going to win this fight.
Re: curiousred – you obviously kno nothing about appraisals its LEGAL to take a photo of a house as long as the appr does not step onto the property that is what appraisers do IDIOT , they take photos of the exterior and it is perfectly legal.
The appaiser should put a sign on his vehicle just like alot of contractors do and advertise his business. End of confusion.

I've had my house appraised before. The first thing they are supposed to do is ring your bell to let you know that they will be taking pictures of the exterior and interior of the home for appraisal. You don't just starting taking pictures.
Most people claimed that the guy was not on the property. Yes he was. you can't take those kinds of photos from across the street for appraisal.
Im an appraiser and it sounds like the guy was taking comp pics, not appraising her house. Either way, NO, he should not have rung the door bell or told them anything. If he was appraising their house, it was for a lender and if you borrow money on your house, most likely an appraiser will have to value it and take at a minimum a front photo. Lenders do not allow any peep in the photos period - kids or adults. I always find it interesting that when I take these photos and people see me, no one has a problem with a white girl doing it. When my husband, who is black, does this work, he inevitably has crazy people run after him with outrageous accusations. If you have recently purchased your home, most likely an appraiser has taken a photo of the front, you just didn't notice them.
I agree. If someone comes to appraise your house they must knock on your door first. My mother got her house appraised and the lady kindly knocked on her door before going about her job. If someone was outside my house in a van ( like he was) taking pictures, I would freak out as well.
Appraisal and comps are two different things. You have to get permsission, obviously, for an actual appraisal. Shooting comps without homeowner knowledge is NOT illegal. I work an appraiser office as well, and have been sent myself to take these pictures. The people on here saying otherwise, seriously, learn before replying to something like that.

I don't know about this one! On one hand it really could have been a pap! And what was to stop the apprasier from selling pix to the tabs if he did get something juicy on film. I think that If were her I would've reacted similarly

He wasn't doing an appraisal on her house. He was taking pictures of a comparable property. You are not required to set foot on the person's property. The only picture needed is of the exterior of the home.
Completely legal, no need to ring the bell. If it were a full appraisal, you'd be right. It's something completely different though.
