Listen To This: Like A Kiss

We've said it before and we'll say it again: Sweden does it well! Very well! Swedes are some of the best makers of music on the planet!

Though their specialty (and our fave) is pop, they also make genre-defying music, such as the tunes from our new fave JJ.

This duo is so mysterious, we can't even find a MySpace or official website for them! The closest we could conjure up was this small artist's page on their indie label's website.

Ethereal is the best word to describe JJ. Pretty female vocals pair with lush yet minimal production.

So lovely!

Incredibly hard to pick just one, check out three of our favorite songs from JJ (below).

um….that's not singing. i can't eve understand it. Is there a reason the music is louder than the voice?

    2. 2

Your LATE Perez! I downloaded the 'xtc' song months ago! thanks Pitchfork.com

    3. 3

The music in the first link you posted is a rip-off of Lil Wayne's Lollipop. it's almost identical. it's actually hard to ignore when listening to it. this is not unique, or original. but then again, not much music today is.

    4. 4

This is awful. And you want to be a judge on AI.

    5. 5

So hard on the ears. Couldn't sit through any of these. Gave me vertigo and then a headache.

    6. 6

oh wow, so you discovered pitchfork and now youre trying to impress everyone by digging out pitchforks hypes from last year like vampire weekend, jj and the xx.
      pathetic

    7. 7

The second one reminded me of the Lion King for some reason and the third sounded like it was made by old people. BUT, I really like the first one!

    8. 8

Ethereal???? the first song sounds like a hip-hop one but i don´t know the name

the second one starts just like heart of glass…

the third sounds like some enya song

so nothing original or even artsy

      failed on this one mario

    9. 9

this is the worst thing ive heard all day… i wouldnt even recognize this music unless i was on some sick acid trip.. NO thank you to this!

    10. 10

gosh!!!! that girl sounds amazinggg!!!! love that first song. perez, you really have good taste! and again why do you people have to be so mean? i KNOW you can't make anything like this. and if you can i want proof!!!!

    11. 11

this reminds me of those listening booths in music stores (havent been in a music store for years) and when i get bored of the song i press stop and it goes away ot the next one

    12. 12

      I like it.

What a nice find! I am def. going to check them out in April when they are in LA! Thanks!

    14. 14

these are almost a year old…. jj has a new album out this week. and the lollipop sample was intentional. they incorporate american hip hop into their "ethereal" music–is that really the only word you could come up with perez?
i guess it was only a matter of time until you shoved pitchfork's dick up your ass, huh? maybe you can learn a thing or two from how they actually have writing abilities, although god help us if you start trying to be as pretentious as they are.

    15. 15

What rubbish… AND Mr Anti-Smoking Perez, aren't you gonna comment on the smoke billlowing out of that guys mouth????

    16. 16

wtf??? The first one sounded just like lollipop by little wayne ridiculous I'll keep by Beyonce and Lady Gaga over this shizz any day of the week.

    17. 17

@carlaandtracyforeverr, you said exactly what I was thinking. Perez, stick to trashy Hollywood gossip. Leave the music to the people who are passionate about it. And jj isn't "mysterious"; they're all over the web.

    18. 18

      I like it! 2nd and 3rd especially.
Sounds like New Age mixed with World Music, Hip-hop and Pop! :)

    19. 19

      omgz! NO MYSPACE? HOW MYSTERIOUS!!!!!!!!!

While I agree Sweden produces some great music, this stuff isn't too good.

    20. 20

the first one sounds like lil' waynes lollipop.

    21. 21

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but you actually picked some really good music this once.

    22. 22

Re: LittleBroAdam – congratz to the most stupid post of the day!

btw it's called sample, you should google it. I've heard that alot of people use it

    23. 23

I really liked these songs! music is so much more than just being able to understand voices. music is sound! this was very easy on the ears for me.

    24. 24

Not too sure if I could listen to an entire CD of theirs. Just listened to the first song, and didn’t really like it. Sounded a bit emo to me. Everyone saying hip-hop, maybe that comes later in the song?

    25. 25

Yikes, I listened to the beginning of the other 2 songs. I realized I don’t like her voice – it seems toneless, and what’s up with that Caribbean theme in the 3rd song?

    26. 26

that girl looks like a fat blonde bjork

    27. 27

@perezisjackass, it's spelled "Congratulations." Not "Congratz." There's these books called Dictionary's. But you may not have ever heard of those. You, my friend, deserve the congratulations for the most stupid post of the day. Love you!

    28. 28

Re: perezisjackass – One more thing, "a lot" is two words, not one. get an education before spewing your ignorance.

    29. 29

I just bought No 2 on itunes, great recommendation!

    30. 30

WOW…if it wasn't for you I'd never hear any great new music! I have to have the CD's , these people are amazing! Thanks Prezzers! Big love from DC bby!

    31. 31

Re: happybitch666 – ooo girl you just made yourself look miiighty stupid…

    32. 32

      lovely, yes.
      mysterious? umm, they're on iTunes…

    33. 33

This isn't too bad. I kind of like it.

    34. 34

some bands must be unhappy to find themselves on your blog. no offense, but gossip and good music doesn't go together.

jj's been out for awhile now. can't believe you've just discovered them. well maybe if you weren't such a fucking gaga groupie youd know and have better taste in music.

    37. 37

      "simRe: perezisjackass

THANK YOU. i can't believe how many of you paraphrased this one incredibly idiotic post. good GOD. is this site populated by 10 year olds? i'm starting to wonder.

    38. 38

      Re: LittleBroAdam

dictionary's ? dictionary is what? maybe lay off other people's grammar until you figure out how to use punctuation. just a suggestion..

    39. 39

Good for you to finally acknowledge them Perez. Most of us LA hipsters had the privilege of discovering this gem last year. Can't wait to see them at Coachella, they're quite awesome.

    40. 40

Re: franniebananie – haha, you're right. i stand corrected. i was getting ahead of myself. thanks for the reality check.

    41. 41

By the way, you idiots, it IS obviously a sample of "lollipop" on the first track, you don't have to remind us like you damn discovered something special there. They also cover "around the world" quite brilliantly on the new JJno3 joint. Go find it.

    42. 42

Re: franniebananie – but one more thing. you seem to have a lot of criticism yourself. are you 10 years old too?

    43. 43

Re: LittleBroAdam – You should have written "there're" instead of "there's" if you are intereseted in using the english language correctly.

    44. 44

As always, your knowledge of music is lacking, as is your style. These songs suck.

    45. 45

lolz…. U guys R soooooo stooopid.. Know 1 can use language properly.. Does you no what I mean? Everyone hates everyone here and.. I LUV IT!

    46. 46

Wow, the first one does sound a lot like Lil Wayne's Lollipop… that being said, I like the JJ version better, the echo really plays up the acid trip feel

    47. 47

It's hard to like a "new" band when the very first tune you hear is almost an EXACT copy of Lil Wayne's Lollipop. Wayne better get his lawyers together. This is a no brainer for a copyright lawsuit. Are you really that out of it to not recognize this Pez? This song was on the billboard top ten forever. You would think you would know this with all the extra time you have on your hands because you are no longer busy stuffing your face with food! Oh, maybe you are busy because you actually are getting laid now………..

    48. 48

I'm really really hoping this means they'll be playing your SXSW party!

    49. 49

It's ok in a generic safe bland way. But it's way overproduced to hide the vocals and lyrics. Here's a Scandinavian from the Big LIST, that will move your heart, singing a Jimmy Webb classic. - Radka Toneff "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress". PH there's a BIG LIST, the first 200 best of the world music list. The BIG LIST is about to revolutionize music. It's Indy versus Trendy, new vs last century. Fun versus formulaic. Check it out!

    50. 50

WTF! i posted earlier how amazing that first song is…and now i found out its a lil wayne cover!!!!! :—DDDDDD i was thinking like man these people are good and i was even jealous for them making such a good song…oh how sad and stupid of them….WHY CANT YOU MAKE YOUR OWN MUSIC???!!!!

    51. 51

rip off of lil wayne's lollipop much?
lil wayne should sue these people.

    52. 52

      mmmm, sweet.

    53. 53

The first rip is brillant, I cant stop listening to it, i dont care if it sounds like lil wein, cant wait till the wife gets home so i can freak her to this song!! Nice find Perez.

    54. 54

perez, but this guy is smoking, GASP!!! how can you promote them?
      talk about double standard.

    55. 55

Re: HowardSternonRoids – To you, and everyone else. Have you ever encountered the form of music which, in tribute to a song, copies from it and makes it different? It's called sampling and if you look around you will see it everywhere. Do you think Stevie Wonder is gonna sue Coolio for "Gangsters Paradise"? Jesus.

To the guy who really liked it until he found out it was a cover… If all you liked with the song was the beat then you didn't really like it in the first place.

Grats do the ones that are gonna see them live. I think you're gonna see they are two persons who actually just make music for the fun of it and fame is an accidental biproduct from it. I can't imagine someone wanting less to be famous than the girl singing.

    56. 56

jesus christ, once again Perez you fail at "introducing" people to the next big thing, they suck as you do, bye now, and scene!!

    57. 57

Re: melixx – Haha, you just made yourself look so foolish! "There're" is not a word, nor will it ever be correct. We both were wrong. the correct form should be "There are…" But thanks for trying to school me!
