Impressive!

The Karolinska institute in Sweden is awarding an honorary degree of medicine to Michael J. Fox for his work in Parkinson's disease awareness and funding.

The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research has given over $175 million to research for pharmaceutical developments against the disease.

Well good for you, Michael !!
I'm sorry for snickering at your appearance in those Olympic commericals here in Canada … the first time I saw it, I hadn't seen the beginning of the commercials and had thought that you were some kind of crack addict doing his hyper spastic movements contribution …. and thought, 'Hey !?! Are they promoting crack addicts from Vancouver's east end in Olympic commercials ?!? WTF ?!?'
    But, then of course not.
I feel bad for laughing, but hey, sorry.
    Congrats !!

  4. 4

Oh, gosh he deserves. Congrats Michael!

  5. 5

What does that even mean? If you have an honorary degree can you use it? That's always confused me. Anyway, congrats to him!

  6. 6

CONGRATULATIONS MIKE! One of the nicest guys who ever passed thru Hollywood.

  7. 7

I have a lot of respect for him for everything he's done for people who live with PD. One of my relatives died from it. MJF is a hero in every sense of the word. He gave a great speech at the closing ceremonies. I'm proud to have lived in the same city as him.

  8. 8

    LOVE HIM!!!! Well done, MJF.

    Re: Osakhomen
I'm pretty sure you can't practice medicine with it. I think thats why its called "Honorary", as an appreciation type deal with him aiding in research for Parkinsons and contributing in some way for that aid, financially or trying to make awareness in some large way.

  16. 16

Very well deserved !! He's such an amazing person and I'm sure an inspiration to others that are battling with Parkinson's disease.

  17. 17

Congrates??? For what? I'm sorry he has Parkinson's, but all he has done is raise money. What about the hard working researcher spending countless hours seeking a cure? Maybe they need the recognition instead.

  18. 18

The University of British Columbia actually awarded him an honourary degree last May for the same reason. Looks like MJF is racking up those degrees!

  19. 19

MJF, I love you. I respect you and admire you. Thank you for all you've bestowed upon us.

Re: FastTalker – ya know that is just sad! He could be just sitting around doing nothing. But NO THIS GUY DIDN'T! HE REALIZED HEY I AM A STAR I CAN BRING ALLOT OF AWARENESS & RAISE ALLOT OF MONEY!! HEY AND JUST MAYBE WE COULD FIND A CURE AND TREATMENTS TO HELP NOT ONLY ME BUT MILLIONS OF OTHERS WHO SUFFER THE SAME DISEASE THAT NONE OF THEM ASKED TO GET! WOW ! YOUR AN ASSHOLE~! I THINK HE IS AMAZING!

  21. 21

Parkinson's runs rampant on the maternal side of my family tree, and I've seen my great-grandmother and my grandmother, along with several uncles suffer horribly with the disease. My mother is showing precursors and I imagine either my brother or I may inherit it. It has been unnoticed and largely unrecognized publicly until MJ Fox's unfortunate situation brought it to America's attention. I hold him in such high regards, and I'm thrilled some organization gave him such merit.

  22. 22

He makes me laugh soooo hard on Spin City. Good man he is. Good for him!!! Grats!!

  23. 23

It's quite an honor actually, KI is one of the most respected and highest ranked university's in the entire world…..they don't give away honorary degree's to anyone. Good for him.

Michael is the personification of the adage that it doesn't matter what happens to you, but what you do with it. He has roped his disease into giving himself a life full of meaning along with helping others. He has earned high rewards.
