Lawsuit Against The Doctors!! Patient Manipulated Into Having His Peen Operated On In Front Of A Live Audience!!

Well, we think this is probably one of the most mortifying things that you could do to someone.

And the more you read, the worse it gets.

A patient on The Doctors has sued the CBS show claiming that producers bullied and tricked him into undergoing laser surgery for a condition called "pearly penile papules" in front of a LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE and then broadcast the operation without his consent!!

Absolutely horrifying!!

The plaintiff Tyler Bowling, 21, claims he contacted the show's plastic surgeon, Dr. William Groff, in January of last year after he saw that his practice offered laser treatment for the penile papules condition, which are noncontagious, harmless bumps on your peen.

According to the lawsuit, after making an appointment, Groff's secretary offered Bowling the treatment for free if he agreed to "discuss his condition" on her boss's medical program, which they assured him was only watched by other doctors and medical students.

Within minutes, producer Lauree Dash called him even though he HAD NOT signed a waiver, which would have allowed Groff to share his medical information.

Shady shady!

Bowling then flew to El Lay and met with the plastic surgeon, who apparently was ready to perform the surgery DESPITE going over any risks or even confirming with his patient that he wanted to go through with it. He was then slammed with the news that the procedure would be broadcast nationwide on CBS.

So much for just discussing his condition!!

According to the complaint:

"Based on this newly disclosed information, plaintiff immediately voiced his reservations and second thoughts about appearing. Ms. Dash proceeded to cajole, assuage and persuade plaintiff that appearing was no 'big deal' and that no one would see the episode and that plaintiff's appearance would be anonymous."

YEAH. How about you guys expose YOUR private medical conditions and then have your genitals operated on for everyone to watch??

Bowling reluctantly said yes and Dash then persuaded him to sign a variety of release forms, none of which we imagine he had time to read. Afterward, the producers led him onstage in front of 200 PERSON STUDIO AUDIENCE!!

WTF???

The host of the program then read a letter that apparently was signed but NOT written by Bowling:

"Dear Doctors,

I'm so embarrassed to ask you this, but I've had these white pimples on my penis for a long time. I went to my doctor and he told me they were perfectly normal so I should just forget about them … but I'm so embarrassed. Have you ever heard of this? Is there anything I can do to get rid of them? Please help!

Tyler, Minneapolis, MN."

Apparently the entire episode has been rebroadcast and posted on youtube, neither of which were under the terms of Bowling's agreements. He seeks punitive damages for invasion of privacy, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, emotional distress, and misappropriation of his likeness.

HOLY SHIZ. This seriously made us ILL to read.

This is tough because technically, he should have put his foot down and said no, and he DID sign the contracts. But this is just so SKEEZY of the producers, who were clearly take advantage of an overwhelmed and confused kid.

Everything in that account seemed to happen so quickly, and with people abrasively and relentlessly attempting to convince you to do something, we could understand how he would just go along without thinking it through properly - if only to get the pressure off!!

If this entire complaint IS factual, then we sincerely hope he wins!!

That producer needs to be FIRED. Unacceptable.

So, so disgusting.

What do U think?? Should producers be allowed to manipulate guests on their programming or was the kid at fault for not standing up for himself??

  1. 1

easy one…the young man is at fault ….he is 21 and signed a contract.

  2. 2

It isn't so clear. He was cajoled. This is LA, where the industry asshole think they can get away with anything they want. I hope the producer gets black-balled, but the publicity from this will probably get her a reality show.

  3. 3

The kid could have easily stepped up and said no, yes the producers were sleazy but he has a mind of his own. He could have stopped it. I read this story on another website and they have a different interpretation of what went on. His rights started to get violated when the producer called him minutes later, he didnt sign a release for the information to be shared with her. He could have stopped it then. I feel bad for the kid but sometimes you just have to say no and not be scared.

  4. 4

NEVER EVER sign anything unless you're a 100% sure of what the hell you're signing! Pressure or not, this guy is stupid.

  5. 5

That's horrible! But he should have stood up for himself and said "NO!". Tough case. I wish him luck!

  6. 6

anyone know what episode it is? someone has to have a video of it!

  7. 7

Good, that's what this douche gets!! He called a medical SHOW and wanted a FREE procedure done. What did he think that they would just do this free of charge without anything in return?? Then he even signs waivers and flies out for it, I don't believe for a second that he didn't now what he was getting into. He's just a cheapskate looking for a handout and now on top of it he even wants compensation. At least he's lost all traces of dignity at this point.

  8. 8

Quit whining you little brat! You signed the contract and got a procedure that makes your PP look pretty for free. I saw that episode and they didn`t show anything even close to embarrassing. You`re just mad your brat friends are teasing you. Suck it up buttercup!

  9. 9

    GAGA POSTPONED TELEPHONE VIDEO AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!1
Y WONT U POST THIS PEREZ AKA PIG FACE!!!!!!!!!!1

    THIS IS RIDICULOUS GAGA!!!!!!
IF ITS NOT GOOD THEN IT WILL BE AN EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!
    FAIL!!!11
    ILL JUST SAY IT NOW!!!!!!

    EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!

  10. 10

That show is such a joke.

  11. 11

Huh? Maybe he should have hung up on the producer. Or not flown to LA. Or not entered the studio, or not signed papers, or not walked out on stage, or left the studio. Sounds like a money thing to me.

    12

whatever.. what you said about Brittany Murphy, Mischa Barton and others still many times worse than this. you're a douchebag

  13. 13

I saw that episode and he seemed pretty open about his condition and thankful for the procedure. IF there was any "manipulation", he still benefited and could have said no. My ruling: STFU.

  14. 14

The guy should have read the papers before signing them. How stupid some people can be….

  15. 15

As a CNA I worked in a doctors office where I saw doctors bullying patients all the time (I quit after long enough). They are the worst to young females and they do treat younger patients differently. Its not just there though, its an attitude of "I'm a doctor and I am more important" they will tell a person, "oh you don't need this" when they really do the doctor just doesn't want to refer them out because they don't know how to do it or will give them inconsistent information. The patient usually feels so bad after its all said and done that they just give in and leave (like the male I worked for made the female patients coming in for their well women's exams feel stupid for wanting a female and talk down to them until they just gave up). Most of the time people don't file complaints because they are so mortified they just want to leave.
I can totally see how this would happen to a person, it happens all the time. Poor people are subject to it often too. It's a horrible system.

  16. 16

People trust doctors. He probably wasn't expecting them to embarrass him like this. When you know nothing and you're dealing with a professional, you might not know that you ought to be standing up for yourself.

  17. 17

Wait Mario! Tell us again about the time you talked JJ Jaxson into making sex tapes with his face in them and sending them to everyone. Did that make you sick? Does it make you sick when you think about it now, or are you proud of what you did?

  18. 18

Anyone involved that passed on information without a release of information act form signed could be potential jail time. No he should not have signed the forms but he was lied to on all accounts of what was SUPPOSED to happen.

  19. 19

Stopped watching that show a long time ago. They are the scum of the earth to do that to anyone. Hope he gets a great attorney!

  20. 20

Everyone keep saying he should have know better or he shouldn't have signed it, but they're not thinking about the time they purchased a car they had only planned to look at because of the pressure applied by the salesman. You don't have time to think. These people are experts at getting you to do what they want. Should he have said NO sooner, yes, but that doesn't make it ok for the producers to pressure him they way they did whether he was 21 or 121. Wrong is wrong regardless!!!!!

  21. 21

I think you are thinking like they plucked him off the streets of LA…….. DI you not watch the video???I guess not it said he was from Minnesota!!! So he obviously flew there!!!!!!! I doubt they drugged him and put him in the audience…..this is a joke and you are crazy not to see it!!!!

  22. 22

    Stupid.

  23. 23

get real people…he wants something for nothing….think about that!

  24. 24

I saw that episode and I don't remember seeing anyone's genitals. He said he contacted DR. William Gruff the shows plastic surgeon so I think that he was well aware of the television show and that he would possibly have a chance to recieve the treatment for free. I personnally think that after all was said and done he was more embarressed then he thought he would be hence the law suit.

  25. 25

What those doctors did is disgusting, but, he did sign the papers.

  26. 26

I think this show was started by Dr. Phil so I'm not surprised they did something that shady to the poor guy

  27. djmom says – reply to this

    27

This is such BULLSHIT! I personally know Dr. Groff and the entire staff at LJS. The patient was COMPLETELY informed about what he was getting in to! Duh! Do you really thing a tv show would put someone's dick on air without consent??? This loser is just trying to get $$$$$$$$$$$$! His case will be thrown out of court. This asshole's people are just using forums like this to try and get the "higher ups" to fork out money to avoid all the bad press. USE SOME COMMON SENSE HERE PEREZ! THIS STORY IS BOGUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. 28

We can't be sure what exactlt heppened n who is wrong or right, but it does seem the producer and the doctor had some wrongdoings.. He probably only agreed to talk about it,but was suddenly asked to go for the live operation n stuff when he was already there.. I can imagine how it would be a lot of pressure.. Too bad he singed the contracts tho.. But they were wrong to do that.. Hopefully he gets some compensation.. Oh n he is quite hot.. Lol..

  29. 29

When exactly do people start taking responsibility for their own actions? I'm not saying that the producers of this show were wonderful people, but if you don't read the contract then that is your problem, not theirs. Do you think that every one in the world is working in your best interests? Of course not. So it is your responsibility to review everything you sign. If they were rushing him he could have said "Either you let me read this entire contract or we don't work together." If you are so pathetic that someone "assuaging and cajoling" you makes you forget all of your concerns, then you have problems.

  30. 30

It's a Doctor Phil and his big Potato Headed Kids show.
I would totally expect unprofessionalism. Look at who your dealing with.

  31. 31

WOW…do you THINK before you do ANYTHING?!

Now you are posting the story and his NAME and where he lives. Then you mention it is on YouTube.

Are you seriously that stupid or just that EVIL??

  32. 32

Sorry, nothing "SKEEZY" here. The man, not kid, should have said thanks but no thanks and just walked out, reading contracts are his responsibility too . Sounds to me like he agreed ’cause he wanted a free procedure and then had second thoughts.

  33. 33

    Perez 2 things:
    1. the head producer of the Doctors show is Dr. Phils son. So of course this guy was manipulate…. like father like son!!!
    2. I live in very strict country in the Persian Gulf and I have actually watched this very episode only a few months back. Programming here is monitored and things deemed "inappropriate" (ie things a simple as men and women kissing) are cut. To think i was able to watch it imagine how many people the world over have scene it.

  34. 34

He shouldn't worry - no one watches that show. It's horrible and a JOKE.

  35. 35

He signed the contract, so tough cookies on him. It will come down to his word versus theirs about what happened, and he signed for it. Seriously, what did he think he was getting into? He contacted a surgeon who is on TELEVISION. He flew across the country to meet with them. He went to a television studio. At what point did he not get that this was going to be on tv? At any point he could have walked away. Sounds like someone got embarrassed after his buddies made fun of him for it.

  36. 36

I dont believe this show has true doctors who are concerned for overall health and well being.
I think they use people and situations to make money.
I totally believe they would take advantage of someone.
They have so much product placement… I remember they promoted low fat yogurt as a healthy food source…… They sold me on this… However, reading the label shows its high sugar content, low source of vitamins, and high source of chemicals!!

  37. 37

None of us know what type of confidentiality was put into that agreement. I love how "high and mighty" all these posters act, but we weren't there. I think obviously SOMEONE at the show failed in the communications department.

  38. 38

I cannot stand that show. The hosts/doctors are so full of themselves. This does not surprise me at all.

  39. 39

AllRe: Heather89 – I agree with you, but I have not seen the show. The whole situation sounds unethical even if he did sign a contract. As the patient, he had the right to be fully informed, consent to the procedure, and consent to release his medical information. The idea that this doctor would be willing to give out all this patient information and perform the surgery in front of a live audience is just wrong. HIPPA was created for a reason. Having been in nursing, that is my opinion.

  40. 40

It's definitely messed up to do that to them. I agree, it probably was super rushed and not clearly explained. They wanted to do it for ratings, TV shows don't care about people, otherwise they wouldn't give a bunch of underage kids alcohol and throw them in a house somewhere to gawk at. What's next, watching Heidi Montags 50 surgeries? Or actually maybe the Dr's should just use Heidi and Spence to show any future medical conditions, they want to whore themselves out so much.

  41. 41

he knew the show and he contacted them. maybe he had last minute regret but he should have refused and walked away.

  42. 42

What did the patient think when he heard "show"? Duh.

  43. 43

wait.. he didnt have time to read a contract he was signing?

that wont ever fly in court

  44. 44

stupid will NEVER FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this guy is looking for free medical and a free meal! JOKE

  45. 45

The procedure should have been done in a doctors office and videotaped and cropped to just the area of treatment. He never should have been led on the stage. What a mess.

  46. 46

Re: Cici093 – BTW THIS IS BS how do you know he did not know…..wait till you hear the whole story this buy wants a FREE MEAL>>>>>>>>

  47. 47

he's 21 for god's sake. he's not a kid. he should just deal with it.

  48. 48

are you kidding me? this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. This guy thought there was a show on CBS during the day that was only for Drs? Don't doctors work during the day? come on…What an idiot!!! If I were going on a tv show, I would definitely research who was watching it. This guy is definitely looking for $$$, or else is the stupidest person on the face of the earth. Plus he is an idiot for not reading a contract– please. Like he was held at gunpoint to get a free procedure. Bull****!!

  49. 49

"Private medical records"? HA! who do you think will have your "private medical records" when this rectumsillynation go's through and we are forced into socialized medicine Mario? Pull you head out dude.

  50. 50

Dayummm Messed up. Shoulda read the fine PRINT or something…:-/

  51. 51

I saw the video clip on YouTube. It wasn't sleazy or embarrassing at all! He got a free procedure, didn't come across badly, and nothing was undignified about it. It was handled appropriately for TV. If his friends razzed him about that, he needs to grow up and get more mature friends. By appearing on the show, he could have helped a lot of other people. Perhaps we don't have the full story as to what this lawsuit is really about.

  52. 52

weezeeca - thats not how contract law works, generally if two parties of equal bargaining power enter into a contract you would be right,…but when one party in a position of power is having you agree to their terms, especially in standard forms,…then there is a whole different ballgame,…plus if a contract is unconscionable then things change, if there is duress it changes….

this situation is not nearly as simple as you make it out to be.

  53. 53

One has to remember, though, the thousands of men in jail due to false confessions just because the detectives acted as the doctors and staff did above. Also, he was led to believe it would be only a group of fellow doctors that would be watching. Another thing, as anyone out there read 20 pages of legal documents and waivers? I don't think so. Lastly, who thinks correctly until they are at least 25?

  54. 54

Yeah, gee, it’s almost as SKEEZY as appropriating peoples’ pictures without their consent and then holding them up to ridicule and mockery for the entire world to snicker at. Pig Face, you’re such a fucking hypocrite.

  55. 55

I think a grown man has the right to say no, to read shit before he signs and to have a spine.

Was he treated fairly? Maybe not, but he needs to take some responsibility for himself and his choices as well.

  56. 56

If you ask "yes or no is he at fault?" then yes he is. BUT they should not have hussled him like that.

  57. 57

Please, he knew. Oh. yea, everyone goes thru this michigas for a simple procedure. Give me a break.

  58. 58

Perez – you forgot the part where Tyler was abducted by aliens and taken against his will to LA!

  59. 59

Perez - As someone close to this story, I can tell you that your article is full of inaccuracies and leaves out many important details. But, I completely understand that if you would have reported all the facts then your story wouldn’t be as interesting. This is just another frivolous lawsuit for which the taxpayers have to foot the bill - what a shame.

  60. 60

why didn't the young man discuss this with is doctor first?
    -
he should've talked to his doctor about what those people were offering (especially if they gave specifics about how it was going to be done).
    -
why didn't he talk to his parents or somebody before agreeing?

  61. 61

OMG I read this on the web this weekend and had to laugh……this guy really should be ashamed of himself….. suing because his friends made fun WAHHHHHHHHHHHH.

  63. 63

Does anyone seriously buy this? He had a million opportunities to walk away. He choose to go to the show. He choose to sign the documents. He choose to appear in front of a studio audience. And just like the rest of us consenting adults, he owns his choices.
