Friend Outraged Over Farrah Oscar Snub!

| Filed under: AwardzFarrah FawcettSad Sad

And rightly so!

Farrah Fawcett's close friend and filmmaker Craig Nevius wants the Academy to issue a public apology for omitting Farrah during the memorial montage during the Oscars last night.

He says:

"Farrah's shocking omission from the 'In Memoriam' montage on the Oscars isn't a reflection of Farrah. It's a reflection of the producers and of the Academy itself. After all, this is a broadcast - as opposed to a 'production' - that has become all about shuffling winners on and off stage and cutting off acceptance speeches in order to make more air time for jokes without punchlines and scripted spontaneity the likes of which we haven't seen since vaudeville.

"They should be ashamed of themselves and owe a public apology in the name of Farrah Fawcett."

The Academy has responded to the Farrah outrage citing that it's not possible to pay tribute to every star who passed away over the last year, but we think that's bullshiz!

They definitely should have made room for Farrah (AND Bea Arthur)!

What do U think?

I couldn't agree more! Stunningly insensitive.

  2. 2

    i think "that's the academy for ya"…….

  3. 3

a BIG PHAT FLOP for the Oscars=SHAME on YOU

  5. 5

epicccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc fail they put in nobodies who were born in the 30s that were old already and they didnt put in these two

wow just wow the academy sucks monkey ballz

  6. 6

Yes ! Bea & Farrah were in a lot of movies !

  7. 7

My god, Farrah was and still is an Icon. She was the Marilyn Monroe of my generation. Her passing should have been acknowledged by the academy, along with Bea. Bea had longevity and she was old and new hollywood.. Shame on them for omitting them. They honored actors and actresses I did not know, so they could have easily put these two in their spots..

  8. 8

Well the Emmy's will air later this year…they can do it at that time

  9. 9

You're making something out of nothing. She wasn't a movie star, she was a television star … not sure why people are trying to make her more iconic in death than she ever was in life …

  10. 10

Both were fantastic actresses that were mainly known for their great television shows and work, and they were acknowledged at the Emmy's. I'm not excusing the Oscars for leaving them out, but it may have been their thinking.

  11. 11

Someone as well known as Farrah should have been added. I think it's bullshit.

  12. 12

    I completely agree.

  13. 13

They had time for a bunch of lame chitchat between Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin but not enough time for Farrah and Bea Arthur. Both were enormously influential and hard working members of the filmmaking community. Leave out Michael Jackson's tribute - if you have to leave anyone out. The stupid broadcast always runs over - what an additional 2 minutes in the grand scheme of things?!

  14. 14

They forgot about Ricardo Montalban too!

Fuck the Academy, fuck the Oscars. The whole thing is bullshit, and that Craig guy is absolutely right. At least Avatar didn't win Best Movie….

  16. 16

    I agree! They are idiots!

  17. 17

I believe they also forgot Ed McMahon. He had a pretty big role in the original "Fun with Dick and Jane".

  18. 18

Could not agree more. They both deserved a mention. And what about Andrew Koenig???

  19. 19

They don't have time to pay tribute to Farrah and Bea but they can put MJs freaky mug on the screen for something he's done? Not right.

  20. 20

I have one word: "Extremities"! Amazing movie. The academy should be ashamed.

  21. 21

When everyone found out she had cancer and died people act like she was the best actress of all time. She was most famous on Charlie's Angels 30 years ago. Its not that big a deal, people. Yes its sad that she died and was sick but no one gave a shit about her 10 years ago.

  22. 22

Yeah, I thought it was a slip-up on the Academy's part. They should just swallow their pride and send out an apology for the people that they missed out on.

  23. 23

Re: savkobabe – Why should they have left out Michael Jackson? he was nominated for an Oscar before,he did alot of songs for soundtracks ,The Wiz recieved 4 academy award nominations! so thats a stupid thing for you to say because obviously you have not done your research!.& Michael Jackson was a legend he deserved to be there! ,so did Farrah and so did Bea Arthur !

  24. 24

TV gals get accolades at the Emmy's not the Oscars!

  25. 25

Re: gmoney0 – Gmoney, you must be 12 or something. She was a big tv star, and exploded when she started doing movie roles on tv and the movies.. My god she was maginificent in Extremeties.. Oscar worthy performance. Michael Jackson was a singing star. He did one movie, The Wiz, and briefly appeared in another one, Men In Black 2.. Farrah was in several movies. She deserved to be acknowledged. And she is Iconic you buffoon. Why else the uproar over her not being included. Just because you do not know who she is nor have the brain cells to bother looking up her work and research as to why so many are angry she was not included, you would understand, but I think you could care less.. You like conflict.. So beany baby, listen here, she is an Icon; had the best selling poster ever. She was loved by millions. I so dislike doe doe birds like you..

  26. 26

she is not a film actress, she was primarily a tv actress and she hasn't done much in that medium either.

    OSCARS = film

that's probably why they omitted her, and Bea Arthur as well. come on.

  27. 27

Re: littlemichelley – Hmm, Karl Malden was known mainly for his work on t.v., yet he was profiled…

  28. 28

Farrah did do movies two of which were awarded - Extremities (Nominated – Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Drama) & The Apostle (Nominated – Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female). So maybe she was more known for Charlie's Angels but she was a movie star and for the Academy to shrug that off and include Micheal Jackson (since when was he a movie star) is quite outrageous. They always include all these producers or actors for the silent movie era that seriously everyone thought was dead already anyway. It's very said they can't just admit they made a mistake and say "hey we are sorry". Tom Hanks is Vice-President of the academy and should now better. This is very sad, by the way I don't think I saw Patrick Swayze in the montage either. How disappointing!

  29. 29

    What were they thinking???

  30. 30

did they not show her face at the golden globes? she has been nominated for a golden globe, she was never nominated for an oscar i think its not fair they left her out of the oscars but i still think its not that big of a deal she was a sex symbol and she died soo sad that still shouldnt make it fair to make her seem like she was the best actress ever mean but its the truth ..go on people call me out for being an asshole now

  31. 31

I absolutely agree. Epic fail on the behalf of the Academy.

  32. 32

Re: Monica Anabella – Monica, you are about as bright as a burned out light bulb. No one care about her says you?? Who are you again?? Listen dimwit, you did not care about her 10 years ago. Fans like me still cared about her. Unlike nimrods like you who like the flavr of the month, fans like me are loyal forever to those we enjoy. I enjoyed Farrah as a boy and still enjoyed who she was up until her death. And guess what air headed moron, thee are millions more like me. Thats why her documentary did so well.. So speak for yourself next time you make a bone headed statement like that..

  33. 33

Wow! I thought someone was being left out last night during that memorium! How sad she was one of the biggest ones to pass. Hope they do something to honor her…

  34. 34

    It totally SUCKS!

  35. 35

Uhm, they can't honor everyone. Give it up, who cares. Farrah had a life outside of Hollywood. Lets concentrate on THAT. She isn't OWED anything.

  36. 36

Re: blahblah12 – Yes your right maybe he shouldn't have been exclude, however he didn't deserve more time than other or the last spot on the montage. He wasn't THAT influencial on the Academy. So maybe he deserved it but no more than Farah Fawcett.

  37. 37

The Academy doesn't owe an appology to ANYONE. If they are going to apologize it would be to her partner. No one else is OWED anything.

  38. 38

Re: Rican31 – BRAVO Rican31….. i agree with you 10000 %, FARRAH may have done aot of Tv work, but she has done AOT of big screen work as well ! Its just too bad these sorry people didnt get a chance to see her talent ! The academy should be ashamed of them selves !

  39. 39

Re: Rican31 – On the Waterfront and A Street Car Name Desire. Hi just sayin..

  40. 40

I can't believe it but I actually agree with PH on this one. This is ridiculous. What kind of response is that by the academy? I am a huuuuge MJ fan, but I was actually surprised to see his face on the screen. I wasn't sure exactly what the correlation was. They say they can't pay tribute to everyone who passed, but if anyone should have been included it should have been Farrah. And she was a member of the Academy? Are you effing kidding me? If it really was due to the fact that there wer too many who passed, then Michael should have been replaced by Farrah and Bea Arthur should have been added to the mix. Shame on the Academy on this one. What assholes. I feel like writing them a letter. Tha'ts how much of a slap in the face that was. If they made a mistake, then fine. But that response is bullshit. Disgraceful!

  41. 41

Re: ems1603 – Soooo not the point.

  42. 42

Re: gmoney0 – MJ wasn't a movie star or a member of the academy. So your comment holds no water as far as I'm concerned. Also, it's very rare that people are iconic before death. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's rare. I can count TRUE living icons on one hand.

  43. 43

Re: blahblah12 – Oh my God. I can't believe that I didn't take that into consideration! You are right. He absolutely did deserve to be in it! I can't believe I didn't know he was nominated for an Oscar. Was it for his contribution to Free Willy?

  44. 44

Re: AvaLuna826 – I take back what I said about Michael being replaced by Farrah. Oh my God. He absolutely did deserve to be in it! I can't believe I didn't know he was nominated for an Oscar. For all I know he WAS a member of the academy. I'm gna have to look into that. My bad.

  45. 45

It's total BULLSHIZ that they didn't even mention the woman who DEFINED the 70's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. 46

This academy is mostly made up of a bunch of self absorbed assholes…and they proved it more than ever on Oscar night.

  47. 47

    without a doubt!

  48. 48

Funny how they had time to show Michael Jackson even though he starred in one movie thirty-two years ago. Leaving Farrah Fawcett and Beatrice Arthur out was inexcusable. And considering how much time they wasted on the heinous opening number with NPH, the horror movie clips (why?) and the John Hughes tribute (again, why?), I don't think a few extra faces on the memorial reel would make a difference. Very bad decision… along with playing 'I Am Woman' as Kathryn Bigelow left the stage - how insulting and stupid.

  49. 49

Re: Rican31 – I wish you knew the mental firepower you were dealing with. Trust, I've got more education in my pinky than you have in your entire family. I know who she was, I know about her "poster" which seems to be the best evidence you people keep giving her her inclusion. I'll even give you that she was in movies and was a member of the Academy … but obviously not every member of the Academy is memorialized during the telecast. You people act like she's entitled to be recognized, and that's at the heart of my point. No one in the last 15 years has demanded she return to film and television, yet the moment she contracted terminal cancer all these (fair weather) fans came out of the woodwork … just save your false outrage!

And P.S. This statement: "And she is Iconic you buffoon. Why else the uproar over her not being included …" we call this circular reasoning. Everyone's in an uproar because she's an icon; she's an icon, which is why everyone's in an uproar. A poster an icon does not make! Recognition is not an entitlement, sad that she was left out but a national outrage, not. even. close.

  50. 50

    Re: littlemichelley
Then why did they include 'screen legend' Michael Jackson who has been eulogized everywhere, most recently at the Grammys?

  51. 51

Re: Chipper112 – Why are U trying to pass off the blame onto Michael Jackson for Farrah not being recognized??!! Yes, she deserved to be acknowledged and so did Michael! His movie "the Wiz" was nominated at the academy awards some years back. U should place the blame on the people who put together the show! Michael fully deserves to be acknowledged!

  52. 52

It was a horrible production and awards show.

The hosts sucked and the direction was amateur. The dance routines and music were laughable and nonsense.

So, of course their insensitivity is just the nail in the coffin, so to speak, for the Academy these days.

Even the nominations were ridiculous. This was the worst Oscars I have seen in half a decade. They have succumbed to the 'dumbing down' that has occurred across this country the last eight and a half years.

  53. 53

It was because they included Michael Jackson that Farrah's omission was such a glaring snub and why it was immediately noticed. They died the same day and the minute they flashed MJ, I expected to see Farrah too. By the time I got on the internet, I could see a zillion people had the same thought process. Then, once everyone confirmed they did indeed snub Farrah, people started coming up with the other deceased actors who had been snubbed. As some have mentioned, Farrah received two award nominations for her work in FILMS so regardless of the fact that she was better known for TV and a poster, it was an insult not to include her ESPECIALLY since they included MJ who is better known for everything else BUT The Wiz, a particularly forgettable movie. There was also absolutely NO EXCUSE for leaving Ricardo Montalban out! He played one of the most iconic MOVIE characters of all time! KAHNNNNNN!

  54. 54

I can think of one good reason she was "forgotten" which has nothing to do with her acting or longevity. Shame on them.

  56. 56

They should be ashamed for omitting Farrah, Bea Arthur AND Gene Barry. Their excuse that they were better known as TV actors was total BS and it was particularly BS when they included Michael Jackson who was NOT best known as an actor in TV or otherwise. Fuck the academy of untalented, mental midgets.
