The Feud is BACK ON! Simon Vs. Sting, Round 2!!
He took a while to respond again, but OUCH!
Last November we reported that Sting had lashed out at Simon Cowell and his shows American Idol and The X-Factor, calling them "televised karaoke" and "preposterous!"
Cowell must have let those comments sit and fester for a while, because he just bit back at Sting. HARD.
“First of all, anybody who at the age of 60 calls himself Sting is an idiot. I find those kind of people… who come from quite humble beginnings and they’re (now) living in these stately homes, professing to know everything about everything in the world, and what the contestants may or may not feel… They can say that because they’ve got everything they want in their lives, but what they’re really saying is anybody else who needs a shot shouldn’t be allowed to do it.”
Eek. We predict that this feud is going to get a lot NASTIER, and soon.
We still are on Team Simon with this one. Why is Sting even talking about him??
He has a new tour to focus on!!

Sting came up in the biz the old fashioned way: He worked his ass off in tiny clubs playing to drunks for nothing a night. Even when he joined up with the 'other two' and become The Police, they still spent a considerable amount of time playing in crap holes in England and elsewhere until their break came and history was made (I am sure there is a longer story there, but…) "American Idol" and it's ilk are blasphemy to anyone from the old school of rock. The idea that you can get 'voted' into a record deal, or even get to audition for industry professionals when you are no one from nowhere is insulting. I hope Sting, who is very adroit, either chooses to ignore Mr. Cowell or slams him in a way that cannot be refuted!!
I agree with Simon Cowell. Simon allows "everyday" type of people a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue their dreams in the entertainment industry. These "everyday" type of people normally would go unnoticed by the big music labels, but Simon gives them a chance.
Sting, stop wearing your granddaughter's v-neck t-shirt. By the way, no one wants to hear about you and your wife doing karma sutra. You are a senior citizen. Act like it. Your ego is the reason The Police cannot stay together. Get over yourself.

As someone who has never seen one episode of American Idol, I completely agree with Simon. While it's not a show I would enjoy, I say bravo to Simon for becoming rich while helping others get their chance. Simon is right - who the hell is Sting to say anything. If Sting doesn't like the show, then change the channel. And he always promotes himself as some zen being.

Yes, American Idol may be an easier way to audition musicians and singers but everyone needs a chance. Even most of the very same musicians who auditioned in the first place, had a lot of difficulty, were living in their cars and just poor as all outside. Perhaps Sting coulda kept all that to himself?

Um…Sting is a legendary piece of rock and roll history. He's an actual musician. American Idol IS televised karaoke. It is people singing along to other people's music, trying to be stars, because they either didn't try or couldn't land a record deal and fame on their own. So they do it through what amounts to a game/reality show. Everyone has a shot at becoming a professional musician, or a professional singer, it just takes work and getting your sound out there. American Idol isn't the only choice.

It's hard for people on those shows to stay relevant or be taken seriously as artists. They get the chance and then they thing things will fall on their laps. You have to work hard to maintain winning. Only a few have actually been successful because they're working on maintaining the career they were given.

It´s really strange that some people have not realized it yet after so many seasons…
Those shows (even occasionally) cannot produce the artists of such caliber as Sting, Madonna, Queen, Elton John, Whitney or others…Those shows kill the potential for the new artists to be future icons or choose their own path…
In the best case they can survive in the industry for a while…but not more than that.
Why would Sting change his stage name that he's had for over 30 years? Lame! Call Sting pretentious or arrogant, but he has always been lucky enough to make the records he always wanted to make. You don't get that much autonomy being an Idol winner, and it will take years and distancing themselves from Simon and his starmaking machinery for any AI winner to be allowed to have that much creativity. I believe it was Simon who once said something like, "it's fine being artistic–just not on my show."

AI is horseshit, it was proven on the Howard Stern show. Simon could care less about those contestants, he's only worried about ratings and gaining money. Plus what does Simon want Sting to call himself? he's been Sting for decades now, that's what everyone knows him by. Team Sting.

And I'd have to agree with Sting, it really is just Karaoke. Only a few people this season seem to be real artists, meaning that they can sing AND play an instrument and/or write music. I realise that Simon and the rest of the people at AI are perfectly happy with a fluffy money-maker like Underwood. But for me, you have to be more than just a descent voice.

Yes sting worked the traditional route to fame, but things like American idol weren't an option. Fast forward 25 years and the public can choose who they want to buy,watch, follow. If Sting hates Simon's shows so much he should turn the damn TV off. I reckon the only reason hes bitching to the press is hes running out of money to fund Trudie's obscenely bad plastic surgery.We get it, you had your time and now your a has been. Let it go and realise others have a right to try and get a record deal however they can. If you don't like the end process, disassociate yourself from it. Well, you know the Brits and their snobby class consciousness. I guess Sting feels he has moved up the echelon, and his nouveau riche and unthinkingly acquired condescending attitude encompasses other music. It makes him look unempathetic, unevolved and forgetful of where he's come from. The industry changes. American Idol might give people a chance, but the fact that people can vote by text is a way to make sure the winner is the public's choice, in other words, that it's gonna make money in the end. No risk taken. Nothing to do with true art.
Sting has been Sting for something like 30 years. Why would he change his stage name now? And American Idol sucks, the only time it didn't was the first season. At one time I loved Sting and the Police but Sting has become alot like Bono. They both think that just because they spew something that it is the word of God. And even a lot of the runner ups and people who didn't even make it to the top two have gone on to have very credible careers. Sting needs to get over it. I understand that he had to work long and hard to get to where he is, but we are at a day in age when it's possible for people to make it in the music industry without doing it the hard way. That doesn't take away from their credibility, it just means that they had better luck with the whole thing than some others did.

American Idol is televised karaoke & a popularity contest, where the judges try to mold the contestants into someone they're not. Anyone saying Sting & Madonna would have jumped at the chance to be on a show like this when they first started: maybe they would, but by AI's standards, they wouldn't have made it past the auditions. Thank God they didn't go through all this and came up the ranks their own way, and made the music world a less boring place.
The AI contestants sing week after week live, with or without musical accompanyment. The so called real musicians of the day, for example Taylor Swift, Kesha, Rihanna, Madonna, Britney etc. can't even sing. It is all electronic enhancement for studio recordings. Remenber Taylor Swift being exposed at the Grammys that her real vocals suck. She cannot sing, after giving her all the awards. We all know that Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood and many more can sing, no studio autotune fraud.

I used to feel the way Sting did regarding original artists. They will still come up if they're any good, but times are changing, and some of these A.I. vocalists are really skilled and are proving themselves. The kids coming up never do things in the old way. Think Benny Goodman to Elvis to The Beatles or Stones to Black Sabbath. Lawrence Welk would have been shaking HIS head too. 70's rock shook their heads about disco; and so it goes. Sting is also very talented in his own right.
