First Same-Sex Marriage In D.C.!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayLegal Matters

Amazing!!!

Today is the first day that same-sex couples can legally marry in Washington D.C., making it the sixth place in the United States where marriage equality is legal. The first couple to do so this morning in our nation's capital was Angelisa Young and Sinjoyla Townsend.

They were married in the office of the Human Rights Campaign followed by two other couples.

Congratulations!

I live in the state of Florida and although I am not gay, I believe everyone should have the same rights. In Florida, same sex couples don't even have the right to become foster parents while there are thousands and thousands of kids who just want to be loved. How about we work on this state next? We have such a HUGE gay population her and all of this is bullshit!

    yay!

  15. 15

That is awesome!! Congrats to the new married couples of DC, now lets hope NY will get on the bandwagon!

  16. 16

Nice that they recite the "Lords Prayer" but in the SAME New Testament a few books down it also says:

1 Corinthians 6:9 Or don't you know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals

    Can we pick and choose?

  17. 17

    Gratz to the lucky Couple!

  18. 18

Looks like a man and woman to me. To each their own.

  19. 19

Thats great! WTF is wrong with marrying someone u love? who gives a F if its the same sex or not. Don't even get me started on this subject. Anyways congrats to them! At least its a start:)

All that I can say is It was about time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh & 2 the ones that think all gay people will go 2 hell. Who are you 2 judge! Religion and the Law are very different. Why not give everyone equal rights? That is the problem with the world they do not know how to keep them separate.

    loooooooooveeee it! :D

Imagine a world with no religion? Would we be better off or in a worse condition? Love, compassion, righteousness, and fairness are within us. Religious dogma would have you believe that such principles can only be found within a religious institution. Love shared by two consenting adults is love. Love is love. Other than religious dogma, why should two consenting adults not be able to love, raise children, receive tax breaks, or be granted other privileges heterosexual married couples receive.

My most mean-spirited friends attend church every Sunday. I know Christianity doesn't require perfection, but I just find it interesting that my most mean spirited friends attend or try to attend church on Sundays. I also find it interesting that I volunteer at a women's shelter on Sundays. My mean, evil friends attend church. I practice compassion. My mean, evil friends attend church and sing about compassion. I smile at others. My mean, evil friends attend church and listen to sermons about kindness. I live in CA and voted No on Prop 8. My mean-spirited friends read the bible and voted Yes on Prop 8.

hey best wishes, joy, peace and equality from Canada

  27. 27

CONGRATS TO THEM!! Now maybe the rest of the country will pull thier heads out of thier asses and do whats right by granting COMPLETE equal rights to all couples, not just bullshit "civil unions". This is 2010!! The fact that this is even still an issue blows my mind. Who cares if 2 people happen to have the same no no parts?? They are 2 consenting adults who happen to be in love and want to pledge thier lives to each other. That's a beautiful thing!! I wish them all the happiness in the world. Now lets hope the rest of the country follows and grants equal rights to all of its citizens.

Re: MarleyRai – WELL SAID!! I wish I could meet you in person to give you a hug!!

  29. 29

    Re: MarleyRai

i agree with you that a lot of mean, cruel people proclaim to be good church going folks. the horrid woman who is raising my poor deceased sister's children is the most hateful, evil, nasty woman EVER and she will bang you over the head with the bible to justify why it's okay to make my 7 yo nephew eat his dinner on the floor like a dog while her kids eat at the table, and put my 9 yo niece in basically solitary confinement for 1 week in her room with no toys or book for knocking over a glass of water while her own kids tear the house apart.

it's people who scream how they love the Lord and act like the devil that turned me off to organized religion.

  37. 37

Another sad day for humanity. There is NOTHING NATURAL about this. May the true God of the Universe forgive us.

  38. 38

The worst part of this is they have the nerve to say "God has brought these two people together" if you want to do your thing thats fine but dont bring the Lords name in this so called "union".

  39. 39
