Netflix Sued!

ap06072409420nf.jpg

A New York woman is suing Netflix for their deal with Warner Bros. that prevents Netflix subscribers from receiving the studio's new releases until 4 weeks have passed from the DVD being available for purchase.

Susan Uman is claiming that their deal causes her monthly subscription to Netflix to depreciate. Her lawyer stated, "It is Netflix subscribers who are harmed by this illegal conspiracy."

We don't see her winning this one — the big businesses always tend to call the shots, honey!

Hey Susan, why don't you spend your time in court doing something worthwhile, like getting your last name changed!

    2. 2

Seriously?!?! What a moron. Leave Netflix alone, they rule!

    3. 3

AH HA! I was wondering why Netflix started to suck last year. I have been a member for 7 years now and it was great up until a few months ago.

I must disagree with Random! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Netflix. I love not paying for cable anymore. All of those "Prime" channels? It's ALL available on Netflix. I agree that it seems lame for the big studios to worry about we little Netflix people, but I am more than willing to wait out the 4 weeks, as there is always PLENTY to watch FREE (at least it seems that way at $9/mo) while I am waiting for that release to come!

I've been with Netflix for 5 years and I'm starting to get disappointed in them. Why should anyone have to wait 3+ months for a new movie release? I keep with them mainly for titles that Redbox and stuff don't have.

    6. 6

This is exactly why I quit netflix two years ago!

    7. 7

So, Perez, again on the side of big corporations?

    8. 8

Good luck getting new releases on blueray. I waited over TWO MONTHS for Ingloureous Basterds and have not gotten any other new releases. They have limits on how many they can buy from studios. The whole thing sucks, but I guess it is not Netflix fault. Still have been tempted to walk up to crappy Blockbuster a few times.

    9. 9

Blockbuster.com will still have the newest releases and they are about the same price as Netflix…there are other options if you wanted a new release that badly.

    10. 10

OH is that why "where the wild things are" is showing as not being released until 3/30, cause of the thing with the big wig studios? I was wondering why other places had it and they didn't.

    11. 11

Who's nasty nail is then, Perez?? You need a nail brush and some fungal remover (they shouldn't be yellow).

Re: obbie doobie! – that one is what got me noticing they are releasing WB movies a month late! It's such bull! I love my Netflix and can barely function without the watch instantly stuff for my daughter, but that's a dumb ass rule! The lawsuit is right, it only hurts the consumer. Netflix is supposedly getting more WB movies for watch instantly out of the deal, but that does nothing for me when I've been waiting on a movie and have to either pay Comcast $5 or wait a month. It's definitely a strike against Netflix.

    13. 13

It should not be that way Paris. Didn't you watch the movie Capitalism by Michael Moore.

    14. 14

This is why I canceled my NetFlix subscription. The deal w/WB and other distributors really sucks!

    15. 15

Re: turkeybacon – Uhm, I'm still waiting for it and I'm trying to get the regular DVD version. I'm a *power* user so they make me wait.

      crazy is as crazy does.

Netflix has the all the rights to control its catalogue . If people want to see new releases right away go to next door and buy one . Netflix has no obligation to make it available right away . What people want is to take advantage of that . If not satisfied , cancel the subscription , simple as that . I hate money eaters .

    18. 18

I think they should get sued for all of the dvds that arrive at my house cracked and are unable to play!!!!!!

    19. 19

Obviously this lawsuit will go nowhere, but I'm glad it's being brought to attention how irritating this new month wait time is for these movies. Besides the fact that the top 17 in my list of around 30 movies in my queue are in a short to very long wait. Most long wait. The ones that are available now are not new releases. What is the deal with that? I'll put a new release at #1 the night before it comes out on my queue and I STILL won't get it. Pisses me off.

    20. 20

      Netflix is the best!

    21. 21

Bitch, get a life and stop wasting the court and tax payers time. Go buy the dvd or rent it from your local video store. Such a loser!

    22. 22

Re: Nero007 – It's not Netflix that is controlling it, it's the studios who make/distribute the movies. They want to make retail revenue and give exclusivity to particular rental outlets. It's even that way with Redbox-there's a certain studio who releases they don't/can't get (Universal maybe?). This has been happening for years in the industry. It's just now that Netflix is the unlucky recipient.

    23. 23

I think it's messed up too. WHy should I pay the same amount every month for less service?

    24. 24

What an idiot….. another moron pissed b/c the world doesn't revolve around her

    25. 25

There's always a copy of most movies at redbox or your local library! Netflix is still head and shoulders above Blockbuster.

    26. 26

then she should cancel her netflix subscription — duh

    27. 27

Netflix built their company on providing less accessible movie titles. New releases are only 30% of their inventory. Get over it. If you want to see every new movie go see it in theaters or rent it from Blockbuster. There is no way she will win this case. Anyone who isn't satisfied should just cancel their subscription, it's not like Netflix doesn't have 6 million other subscribers.

    28. 28

This woman is pathetic. Why is it so important that she watch a DVD as soon as it goes on the market? She really needs to get her butt of the couch and find something of substance to do with her time. This is why the courts are so backed up. It's crap like this that shouldn't even be allowed. I hope the judge reads her the riot act and then charges her with the money she cost the court system. Stupid woman!!

    29. 29

What is netflix going to do? I doubt they could tell Warner Bros. to fuck off without having to pay more for DVDs from a third-party retailer.

in any case, Netflix has never been the service to use if you want new releases as soon as they're released. There's just too much demand to get them to everyone. It's the service to use if you want access to 100,000 movies/TV Shows.

    30. 30

Is she talking about her $20 monthly subscription….????? Maybe it's the mental anguish at not being able to the view the new releases sooner? Ugh… Stoooopid!

    31. 31

suing over an inconvenience?, talk about frivolous. I thought Lindsey Lohans case was bad but this takes the cake.
