An Emotional Return To The Stage For Marie Osmond
It was a packed house Tuesday night at the Flamingo as Marie and Donny Osmond took the stage for their Las Vegas show, only a day after Marie laid her son, Michael Bryan, to rest.
The audience watched on as Marie worked through the evening's material with tears in her eyes and shakiness in her voice. She explained to the crowd that she was dedicating the show to "her angel" and she knew he would want her to carry on. She said:
"The way Osmonds survive is we keep singing. That's what we want to do tonight. I know my son would want that and this show is for him."
And she did pull through, though clearly emotional through most of the 90-minute show. At one point, her brother Donny asked that the audience show their gratitude for Marie making it on stage and the crowd stood in a roar to give her a standing ovation.
We're sure it isn't easy, but it is good to see Marie trying to keep some normalcy in her life. We know it'll be a long time before she is herself again, but here's hoping she finds peace soon.

Shocking you are so supportive of her when reports are saying she wasn't very supportive of her son because he may have been gay.
I know those rumors are just rumors…but still.
Good for her. She has to keep going because once you're in that bed and in a funk its difficult to get out of it. And she has a huge family to support her.

Just gonna say what no one else seems to want to. Normalcy???? Really? It is far from "normal" to "work" one day after burying your child. And I suspect it's also a MAJOR clue as to the disconnectedness that allowed him to feel so very alone. What about the other "family" members that needed her during what is also thier loss? "…Osmonds survive…we keep singing", it would appear you keep avoiding and THAT may the cause of all that is wrong.
I know people grieve in different ways, but seriously?, performing a day after you bury your son? That seems just … inappropriate.

I think that's pretty brave of her. Probably when she's performing she gets into a zone and maybe gets to set her grief aside for a while. The saying "The Show Must Go On" wasn't said just for the heck of it.
Boo Hoo, her "so called" religion caused her son to feel so dirty and 'bad' that he could not live with it. Yet their "faith" gets them through? Sick, just really really SICK. They should disavow that hatred and realize what the hell is happening!
To each their own. I assume, although hard, that it would be much easier to grieve while doing something you enjoy doing and doing something that helps keep your mind off of it. There is no rule that says you must grieve a certain way, but people sure act like that. Why is sitting around crying and being sad considered "the norm" for grieving?

Kudos comments #10 and # 16. My dad's a clinical psychologist and has said the grieving period for anyone who's lost a loved one takes a minimum of 2 years before one can step out of comfortably. What Marie is in right now is a TON of denial. Technically, you NEVER overcome someone's death. The emotional cavity remains in your soul forever. Poor Michael was conflicted because he was raised Mormon but knew he was gay ~ seeking freedom from his known depression at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in L.A.. It's sad he was unable to fulfill his dreams. Thanks Mormon for your fairytale religion. Another one bites the dust…

I doubt it.
I think it's very reasonable to see how going back to work would be a survival mechanism for someone who would otherwise be swallowed up in grief at the loss of a child. The fact that she performed, does not in any way indicate that she is not grieving terribly for her son. To the contrary, it seems very logical to me as a way to distract herself, even for a brief time, so another day can pass as she tries to move forward and be strong for her other children. I think it is unfair for anyone to make claims that Marie's religion was any reason for Michael's depression; that is simply absurd and inappropriate.

Do you realize Marie has a lesbian daughter who she loves and supports? She publicly stated her support for civil unions. Do you realize ALL of Michael's friends say he wasn't gay? Do you realize his friends said his Mom visited him all the time? Do you realize you are ignorant?
