Sources are claiming that Warner Bros. Studios is looking to revamp the classic Judy Garland flick for the new generation. Allegedly, there are two treatments floating around Hollywood at the moment.
The first is in the hands of New Line Cinemas and Temple Hill, one of the producing forces behind Twilight. Their version is simply called Oz and is keeping to a lighter fare with Darren Lemke at the helm of the script. (His last work - Shrek Forever After)
The other treatment is far worse darker and is being handled directly by Warner Bros. This script finds Dorothy's granddaughter thrust into the not so merrily land of Oz to fight "evil."
Because somehow the Wicked Witch of the West survived becoming a puddle? Really? This is necessary?

Meh. I hate the Judy Garland version, Return to Oz was MUCH better. It's a lot closer to the books. I might see this one, but I won't hold out hope for it being true to the books.
a remake would be a bit lame, but being inside the twister in 3D would be fricking awesome!! The "dark" version has potential, but it'd have to be a pretty good storyline

I'm soooo tried of seeeing all these classics being remade. They are CLASSIC MOVIES for a reason. By both companies changing the movie is considered to NOT BE A CLASSIC but rather just another "movie". I would be SO disappointed if this happens!!!

Great biz decision on the studio's part. I'm open to anything that's good. If it gets good reviews, I'll go see it. If it doesn't, I won't. Period.
If they're gonna remake, then I hope they do it right. As in not following the WB's idea of making a sequel. I'd like to see a proper remake, which means not changing the story or throwing in new characters or anything of the like.

They have already done a "Darker" Side of this move, kind of. In 2007 they had the tv mini series Tin Man. I own it on DVD and I really liked it. It had Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, Richard Dreyfuss, and Kathleen Robertson in it. It is very strange and dark. It was a success when it was premiered.

they already have a wizard of oz two, i don't remember if it was called that but it's weird, dorthy goes to like shock therapy cause no one believes her about oz then she goes back to oz and everyone is turned to stone and there is a witch who changes her head and a guy with a pumpkin head….seriously. that's all i remember lol but it's totally been done.
The Wizard of Oz should be left alone - it is classic and untouchable.
There is also a huge difference in that there was never a definitive Alice movie, so it wasn't as if Tim Burton was re-making an iconic film.

The head that she liked the best was such a scary b**ch. The deadly desert scared me too. I actually bought that movie a few years ago. I loved Tick Tock and the lunch pail tree! It always made me hungry.
