Haim's Agent Denies Substance Abuse

Despite most reports that Corey Haim tragically succumbed to his addiction to prescription medication, his apparent enabler agent, Mark Heaslip, is trying to cover his own ass doubts that substance abuse was a factor in his death.

Heaslip says:

"I really don't think it was an overdose. He was doing really well. He did struggle with substance abuse, but I've repped him for a year-and-a-half and part of my agreement with him was that he had to be clean. That was the number one priority. He was still on a little medication, but not like the old days. They'd pretty much weaned him off it… He seemed very coherent and normal [on Tuesday]. He did to both his mother and his doctor as well. The doctor just thought he had a cold or bug or flu. I want people to know that Corey was doing so well. I've been so proud of him. It's so sad. Yesterday was the first time I didn't hear from him in a long time. He was in bed. It's the weirdest thing to all of us."

We honestly would really like to think that it was just a flu, but honestly, people need to realize that addictions to painkillers are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!

If he had a fever, 'a little medication' could have been all it took to end his life!!

I will not read one more thing you post about this lost soul…

    Vale

    Here,rather than on monumental stone,
This record of thy worth thy Friend inscribes,
Thoughtful, with quiet tears upon his cheek.

WE don't know what happened to Corey, so i wish everyone would stop throwing around that it was substance abuse that killed him, he had a history but we don't know 100% percent that this is what killed, so have some respect and don't add to the firestorm. Whatever happened to Corey will be revealed in time R.I.P Corey Haim.

  5. 5

the flu doesn't kill health people in their 30's normally, I will take the bet it was "accidental" OD

  6. 6

Isn't that what was said about Heath Ledger? That he was suffering from "flu-like" symptoms and was on prescription drugs too?

  7. 7

Let's not jump to conclusions just yet PEZ, anything is possible. It is sad that we have lost another talented young man.

  8. 8

I an so saddend by this.

  9. 9

We'll find out want we want to know soon, until then we shouldn't point fingers, what happened to Corey is sad he was too young and people need to stop jumping on his character now when he can't even defend himself. I do wish he had taken better care of himself, but we need stop pointing fingers.

C'mon! He was drug addict! Look at the latest photos of him, he looked like Shit! When everyone first heard he died I bet no one had to ask how. They can spin it all they want. He died just like Anna Nicole, Brittney Murphy and soon to be Lindsay Lohan if she doesn't get her act straight…drug addicts!

  11. 11

RIP Corey. The most horrible thing about htis tragedy (other than him dyin og course) is the fact that all anyone will talk about or remember him for now is drugs. I happen to think this is a Heath Ledger/Brittney Murphy case of mixing the wrong scripts for the flu. He was truly talented but also so tortured. I hope he is finally at peace and I wish that no more stories will be posted about him trashing him or his name until all the FACTS are in and the reports state COD. :(

  12. 12

………and yet, SOMEhow, Lohan keeps on truckin'. How, folks, f'n HOW???!!!

  13. 13

Who knows what caused his death but it brings up the very serious problem of dangerous drug interaction. Even if you are only taking vitamin supplements never mix with any OTC or prescription drug without consulting a physician! I see accidental overdoses constantly, working at the hospital. They are not always fatal but can seriously damage your body. It is so easy to do if you are sick to unknowingly overdose on OTC drugs. One memorable event was a sick girl on her period took cough syrup, pamprin and a daily women's vitamin and had a very serious reaction. It is as simple as that. DO NOT SELF MEDICATE!

  14. 14

If anyone in his life was an enabler, it was his mother. Just listen to her in interviews.. Look at his life. This woman was more concerned with herself and having her baby around, than truly giving a crap about the help he really needed.

If your child really wants to cross the freeway during rush hour, do you let him? NO! Sure, he'll kick and scream and may get mad at you.. but when all is said and done he'll be happy you were there to guide him in the right direction, whether he wanted to or not at the time.

Drugs, pills, booze, fame… all 18 wheelers on that freeway his mother never thought twice about letting him cross. From when he was a drugged up teen until now. emotional manipulation at it's finest… and she'll want everyone to feel sorry for her.

All of this tragedy in his life was preventable. He needed psychological help, big time and to feel ok about saying bye to Hollywood if he couldn't handle not being a huge star.

  15. 15

Agent spagent, that's where I get my information!

  16. 16

the beginning of opiate withdrawals feels like flu symptoms

  17. 17

is that guy a complete fucking mooron…like u have to get meds thru a doctor…its easier to get prescription meds than it is to get the ghanga…WTF?

  18. 18

The fame and drug addict should have had a back up plan.

  19. 19

Are they? Are they EXTREMELY DANGEROUS?? EXTREMELY??
    .
You are such a ridiculous CAD. Who talks like this? It's like you are lecturing (badly) to a pre-school class

  20. 20

it's really important that people realize that a "painkiller overdose" doesn't have to mean taking bottles of vicodin or percocete either yah know…you can overdose on tylenol or ibuprofin too. infact acetominophen overdose is really incediouse because taken daily it can build up in your liver and wait there until one day you just tip the scales with a final dose, which by the way can come from any source including many perscription medications or over-th-counter cold or flu remedies. ibuprofin effects your kidneys in much the same fashion..so even if you think you are doing yourself a favor by sticking to the "soft core" non- addictive meds think again. haim may have been a junkie on his final day..he may have just been a victim of circumstance…i don't really give a shit. but there are a hell of a lot of people out there who are poisoning themselves as they sit there typing "what a shame."

  21. 21

i totally agree, my fiance is currently in rehab going through addiction treatment for oxycontin addiction. Its a terrible, painful thing for everyone involved and i really hope that it had nothing to do with his death.

  22. 22

Re: whtevr – OK while your claim that ibuprofen and tylenol can be harmful to your liver and kidneys is plausible, your other claims are not. People do not go "soft core" and take Tylenol to get high. You can take the recommended dosage each day of your life and be fine. It is not going to have long term effects and suddenly kill you out of nowhere! The only way that it is going to hurt the average person at all is if they were to exceed the dosage multiple times a day for a long time. Vicodin and Percocet are a different ball park. They are class 2 Narcotics and can be lethal if taken in high dosage especially mixed with other medications. Though if taken properly, while there are some negative side effects, it is unlikely that one would overdose and die.

  23. 23

Re: #Cejers – actually- in many countries you can buy tylenol 1 with 8 mg. codiene over-the counter, including Canada, where Haim lived for quite some time. this dose infact qualify as a "soft-core" narcotic, and the purchase of it is recorded and tracked. People are very apt to become addicted to the slightly larger codiene content in tylenol 3, which is way more over-prescribed then percocete, vicodin, or oxycontin. it only takes three tylenol 1 with codiene pills to equal the dose of one tylenol 3 pill, which means people can easily end up overdosing on the acetominaphine content to get the same codien high… You don't have to "buy" anything I've said….but before you try to refute something I would suggest you look it up. just work yourself a little google fu on tylenol and ibuprofin overdose…you'll find it's actually extremely common.

  24. 24

He couldn't possibly have ODed, all those drugs were legal.

  25. 25

It was an overdose and I am sure that his mom is well aware of that, I witnessed her popping as many pills as he did a few years ago…… he did get cleaned up, but sadly he relapsed

  26. 26

According to the police on the scene there were 4 prescription bottles found and none of them were for a cold or flu so it is very possible he had resperatory failure especially if he had a chest cold and took something like hydrocodone or something to that effect on top of it.

  27. 27

I am in LA our local news says the mom is battling breast cancer and the neighbors were saying he was quite stressed out by it all. So lets see Mom could be dying and cancer treatment usually includes major narcotic based pain meds.. well that sure as shit seems to me like it might be the right environment for a relapse

  28. 28

Re: Cbabylv – Wonder if this is the other Corey. Anyways no we don't. Maybe he had a weird virus or something. Strange thing wtf is wrong with his dumb doctor? If someone's having breathing problems he should have been admitted to the hospital. I would have though pneumonia or something.

This is so sad. I feel so sorry for his family.
It's really not our business why he died.
He's gone now - let him rest in peace and his allow his family to grieve in privacy.
Perez, your snide, unsubstantiated innuendos only make a horrible situation worse. Do you have a conscience?

  30. 30

are they trying to peddle this like another Britney Murphy tragic pneumonia accident?

i dunno…Corey was addicted pretty much since he was a kid. given all the drugs in his house…well, we'll see when the tox report comes back in a month or so.

    still sad.

  31. 31

My brother died January 6 of an accidental prescription drug overdose. My heart aches for his family and for the hell he was living with for so long. People may cast stones and say he chose the life that he lived, but as someone who watched their little brother struggle with such issues for the last 6 years I know what hell their lives become. RIP corey.

  32. 32

HERE WE GO AGAIN, YOU FUCKING PRICK! I DON'T CARE IF HE WAS A DRUG ABUSER, HE WAS ALSO A HUMAN BEING WITH FAMILY/FRIENDS WHO LOVED HIM! SOMETIMES I REALLY WONDER WHO THE FUCK YOU THINK YOU ARE? YES, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN OPINION BUT TO SLAM PEOPLE DAY IN AND DAY OUT AND THEN ACT LIKE YOU CARE WHEN THEY DIE IS DISGUSTING! TO POST SHIT ABOUT THEM LIKE YOU DID BRITTNEY MURPHEY WHO YOU WERE TOTALLY WRONG ABOUT!!! WHY CAN'T WE WAIT UNTIL THE AUTOPSY BEFORE WE START SPECULATING ON HIS DEATH? NO, THAT WOULD BE TOO CIVIL FOR YOU WOULDN'T IT? MAN, YOU REALLY ARE GOING TO HELL…NO MAYBE ABOUT IT!

  33. 33

Re: chiro – ASSHOLE BRITTNEY DID NOT DIE OF DRUGS. EVEN AFTER THE PROOF COMES OUT PEOPLE STILL BELIEVE EVERYTHING THEY FUCKING READ! PISSES ME OFF THAT YOU FEEL THE NEED TO SLAM DEAD PEOPLE…MAYBE YOU SHOULD REFLECT ON WHY YOU FEEL THE NEED…ARE YOU AN ADDICT? IF NOT, WE KNOW YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE ANYWAY!

  34. 34
