Cults has made a splash on the Internet by debuting online, surrounded by a shroud of secrecy, and dropping their debut EP for free.

They have no MySpace or label that we know of. They just have songs that sound like Badly Drawn Boy meets the PS 22 Chorus.

In other words, we love it!

Check out Cults' lovely Go Outside (below).

wow that was craptastic… another reason you wouldnt make a good idol judge…

  2. 2

Decent song…but I prefer the band THE Cult..

  3. 3

That hurts in the ear. They should just always shroud themselves in secrecy–as if they have a chance to be known. It was awful.

  4. 4

Hey Perez, are you going to give credit to the artist whose image you used above?? He's one of my favorites!!

  5. 5

    What a sweet song!

  6. 6

Wow that was bad. Even free is too expensive for this music, there's no way my hard drive space is getting wasted on this.

  7. 7

ironically, this band was just featured on the filthy youth's indie music blog.

ripping peoples finds off yet again, eh perezy?

  8. 8

Sounds like a fifth grade chorus. Pretty bad.

Example # 1,000,000,000,000,000 why you should not be a judge on American Idol or America's Got Talent !

Way to rip off pitch fork post a review that makes no sense to an audience that doesn't understand it. Then to show off your music intelligence by posting a 2 year kanye song to rip on him. This song is amazing if you play it for 60s pop and swedish pop fans. Badly drawn Boy are you on crack, try belle and sebastian mixed with saturday looks good to me.

  11. 11

I thought it was nice. The beat is calming. I'd own this.

  12. 12

Shitty! don't you get tired of rainbows flying out of your ass Mario? Gay Gay Gay.

  13. 13

i guess i'm one of the only people but i really liked it…very light and happy!

  14. 14

Dude, nowhere should the words "Badly Drawn…" be in a post where the accompanying artwork is by ROBERT LONGO! I don't care if it's the name of a band.

  15. 15

thank you for the find VERY good

  16. 16

They are alright nothing special and certainly not going to make a big splash on the airwaves. Let me guess you mentioned they don't have a label that you know of so I imagine you will be signing them and shoving them down our throats for the next.

  17. 17

One other thing no matter how much you hype your label you are still mediocre in the music industry. Proof you have been begging to be on the panel for AI next year and still nothing. Do you think if Mottola or Geffen offered them to be on the show they would not have signed them immediately.

  18. 18

Robert Longo was ALREADY referenced by CIRCLESQUARE. As if these guys didn't already know that when they chose to use this cover art for their music. Seriously, now i'm not even interested in hearing them.

  19. 19

    THAT?! IS SHIT.

  20. 20

These guys are great, I don't know what you guys are talking about.

And perez where did you find this? Been reading your daily Pitchfork????

  21. 21

theres no album so there is no cover art yet

To the people who said this music was shit…..let me guess, that type of music you listen to is typical top 40 radio garbage correct? You people wouldn't know art if it slapped you in the face perhaps.

This unrecognized band is a hipster's dream–unknown and not mainstream at all.

I think I need to give their free album a few more listens to be convinced.

  24. 24

    it's pitchfork
that's where you get all this shitty WE'RE-SO-ALTERNATIVE-music!
i'm sure your office workers are in that depression-chic-faze
"we're just different you wouldn't understand our generation…i listen to angels and baby crib mobiles but it's still about sadness :( "

  25. 25

they have only been a band for a few weeks, so they havent actually really released much but 3 songs, so they dont have any of their own art…

  26. 26

Re: sbt2k – Oh let me guess you are the leading authority on what is artistic. Bob Dylan now he was poetic and artful and his music was popular at that moment in history so just because something sales doesn't mean it can't be artistic. Your the type of person who hears a band that isn't well known and you go around telling all your friends how wonderful they are and then when they actually become popular and on the airwaves go around proclaiming how they are nothing but sell outs and that you were listening to them when they were true artist.

  27. 27

Perez and the leading authority on what is sbt2k probably think Jandek is good music.

    28

    cute.

  29. 29

Wow, Pig Face, you're back to old form; this band truly sucks. Have you just "signed" them to your "record label" like you did, who was it…oh, yeah, Slimy. That worked out really well didn't it.

  30. 30

I rather liked it - I also checked out their songs and really enjoyed the last one of the three, The Curse. looks like no album is due out until 2012! wtf??

  31. 31

This song rocks! Long live Cults!!!

  32. 32

That was just horrible Perez. I can't even imagine you liking that.

  33. 33

was a fifth grade class sing a long right?
