No Hurt Love

You wouldn't think that an Oscar-winning film would have any trouble at the box-office. You wouldn't think, but it is so!

Summit Entertainment finds itself in quite a pickle this week as it has tried to repitch The Hurt Locker to movie theater chains for another release and no one seems to be biting. For example, Regal Theaters flat out said no, citing the problem is not the film itself, but the fact that it is already on DVD.

Understandable, but it seems to us that it is the kind of flick that is best appreciated on the big screen and with all the buzz, an extra week in theaters couldn't hurt.

What do U think?

they should put it out there - it's an AWESOME movie

  5. 5

pere your posting shit like crazy fuck the down

  6. 6

    Well, DUH.

The DVD's been out for over a month now. Hell, the damn movie was re-released TWICE since its original run ended in late October. Just about anyone who wanted to see the movie in theaters already did. Besides, if you're given the choice of either renting the movie for $4 so you can watch it at the comfort of your own home, or watching the movie in theaters for at least twice the price, I'm sure 90% of moviewatchers will take the latter.

  7. 7

People are cheap and if they can watch it for less by renting it they will.

Re: bobbyD – Firstie fail. Sorry duder. But I'm glad that you made the exclamation. Other people puss out and post "First?" as if they're questioning their abilities to be first.

  9. 9

i saw this movies the other day and it sucked!

I was really unimpressed with the Hurt Locker. I found the movie very forgettable, and the lousy excuse for a soundtrack sucked. It's no Platoon or Full Metal Jacket. In my opinion, Avatar was a much better film. I think Avatar should've won the Oscar for Best Picture and James Cameron should've been voted Best Director. But I knew he wouldn't win because the Academy is biased against commercially successful films. They left out Farrah Fawcett from their memorial, so they should never be taken seriously ever again. The Academy doesn't deserve our respect because they themselves are disrespectful. I'm glad I never wasted my time watching the Oscars on Sunday night. I knew without even watching that it would be a pile of shit.

Why the hell did the producers release the movie to DVD so early anyway. All the other Oscar nominees are releasing their movies after the awards for maximum effect. Why was this movie so dumb? Can someone answer this for me.

  17. 17

It was a crappy, boring movie.

  18. 18

That movie was INTENSE! Would love to see it again on the BIG screen.

The movie was horrible, so freaking boring!!! I couldn't even finish it…I know people who are EOD and it is a joke among them though I know it is supposed to be "fictional", yeah right. It still SUCKED!!!

This movie is totally over-rated. It's fine, but I wouldn't want to see it twice, unlike Avatar. The reason they put it out on video before the Oscars is because they made very little money at the box office. It would do even worse a second time around. Avatar and Cameron should have won, but the Academy voting pool has been skewed towards the "indie" crowd. I have nothing against "indie flicks"…but giving them an Oscar over something like Avatar?

  21. 21

    A near perfect movie?

so let me understand this quote.

wat ur trying to say is that its not pefect.

    wrong quote to pick

  22. 22

It was hardly Avatar –> which has no problem staying in theaters. Even if it were on DVD people would still go back to see it in the theater, it's like Star Wars; timeless and awesome. Hurt Locker blew, no pun intended, ok maybe.

  23. 23

I want to see this in a theatre in the lower mainland of British Columbia. I missed it while it was out, and I've been checking the listings, but I guess this is the problem.

I especially want to see it now that it has won so many Oscars. Geez, some people are short-sighted.

  24. 24

Why would this be the kind of movie that is best appreciated on the big screen? It is not a grand epic that needs to be seen in the theater. It is just fine on a tv. Movies like Avatar, Braveheart and other epics are fun on the big screen. But small art house flicks are just has good at home. Especially with big screen TV's. It is not even a great movie. But there were not really any great movies this past year. Except maybe Inglourious Bastards. Star trek and district 9 where wonderful scifi movies. The rest of the field was average at best.

  25. 25

…..should i tell you when it was in theaters or should i let you find out for yourselves from your own stupidity and that it wasn't an international release….at any rate, I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!

  26. 26

  27. 27

Are these theater chains just plain stupid?

  28. 28

It's a year old. It's not a 3D that needs a theater. A home 32 in. or better will work just fine. Everybody who wants to see it has and there's another Bush War movie with Lil' Matty this weekend.

  29. 29

I saw it on DVD and love it. Would love to see it on the big screen..

  30. 30

    Re: vincenotvance

  31. 31

Intense, yes. Well-made, yes. Nicely acted, yup. Boring, yes. How the hell this movie won the Oscar, I have no clue. I saw all of the ten nominated films. This would not have even made my top ten list. Zzzzzz….

  32. 32

it was a huge mistake to give all the big and important oscars to the hurt locker over avatar………obviously they don't deserve them and avatar should've won best movie, best director, best visual effects, etc

  33. 33

I tried to watch it, but honestly, to see Iraqis being treated like s–t by American soldiers? One can read the newspaper for that…I don't need a movie to show me that depressing nonsense.

  34. 34

    there's no plot
    2hours of war footage

  35. 35

I saw it and it was good, but it was not great.
The Oscars just wanted to be jerks and make a statement and screw Cameron but this is the reality.

This was not even close to being the Best Picture.

It should have been Avatar, Inglorious Basterds or Precious.

It doesn't distract me from Obama expanding both wars.

  37. 37

I'am an Army wife of an OIF Veteran whois facing deployment again and who was blown up 2 times in Iraq…every soldier our family knows HATES this movie. They say its unrealistic and doesnt remind them at all of their deployment. The Army even refused to support this film b/c they said the behavior portrayed by the actors was not behavior the Army agrees with. I'm sorry but why doesnt the director take a percentage of her earnings from this film and donate it to wounded soldiers who get discharged b/c they cannot continue their duty as a soldier and then have a hard time finding jobs and supporting their family.

  38. 38

No one is interested in a crappy movie that has the lowest box office ratings ever for an 'award' winner. It is filled with lies and distortions and the American public is tired of this kind of crap being fostered off as 'truth.'

  39. 39

Do we really need another war film?

  40. 40

Avatar without the 3D would have been just an ordinary movie. Not Best Picture worthy at all. But it is hard to get people to pay $12+ for a movie that can be rented for $5.

  41. 41

The movie sucked. I have tried 3 times to get through it. I would not pay 1 penny to see it again.

  42. 42

    I'd go!

  43. 43

Hmmmm, ya I guess I'll actually watch it now.

  44. 44

    Scratch that..

  45. 45

I think that Avatar should have won… I liked The Hurt Locker, but it's not that great..

  46. 46

Once a movie is available on DVD, it's hard to put it back in theaters.

  47. 47

Imax it and it'll make money and make me happy

  48. 48

The direction was very good but the storyline sucked.

  49. 49

I missed it in the cinema so watched it on DVD and it is an AMAZING film. I would now like to see it again in a theatre and I know many of my friends want to as well, so they should have it on for a couple of weeks. I'd rather see this movie again than most of the crap out there.

  50. 50

While making this movie the crew thought it was going straight to dvd.

  51. 51

  52. 52

It says to me they released it to DVD to early out of worries on how to make the most oney and now they are paying for it. Still, I'd go see it in a theater if it was available.

  53. 53

For such an explosive theme, The Hurt Locker was repetitive and boring. I kept trying to love it, but it must have gone over my head. Zzzzzzz.

  54. 54

It wasn't that good. I sure as well wouldn't bother watching it a second time.
