Gay Romance Written Off Of One Life To Live!!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsGay Gay GayLGBT

This is pretty unfortunate.

ABC has announced that the groundbreaking gay romance between Kyle and Oliver - portrayed by actors Brett Claywell and Scott Evans - on the daytime soap One Life To Live is being written out of the show!

Frank Valentini, one of the soap's producers, said in a statement:

"We are concluding the story that we set out to tell with Kyle and Fish. We are very proud to have broken new ground with a same-sex couple on daytime."

Although the romance between the former frat brothers pulled in serious viewership and received major press from gay and lesbian publications, the network officials reportedly worried that they weren't working with the mainstream audience.

Of course. So effing typical.

Kyle and Oliver will apparently get custody of the infant Sierra Rose and start their family together off-screen. Their last episode is in April.

Good! The LEAST they should get is a happy ending!!

What do U think?? Are U upset to see Kyle and Oliver written off One Life To Live??

WHY does everything always have to be about Gay people!?!??

I support them and all, but GEEZE, what is this website about again?

  2. 2

thanks for posting that lovely picture…..not.

    and ocreamsicle has a point.

  3. 3

Good riddance. Maybe they can get Mad Donna to adopt them in storyline fashion. She's already got a storyline romance going with the paid gay monkey bum boy. ajajajajajaja

  4. 4

I think its fine. Every story has to have an ending and this one will be a happy one.

  5. 5

The truth is the show was not really doing much with these two great actors! They could have really showcased a gay couple raising a child. Too bad! Whether or not your gay or straight there should be equality for all.

  6. 6

not upset, i have watched the show for over 10 years, and i just really didnt like them…they really arent that great of actors!

  7. 7

You make everything about gay people getting slighted. I happen to be gay to but I don't see it that way at all. How many years has that show been on the air? They need their main stream audience. Believe it or not, they didn't do it specifically to piss YOU off.

  8. 8

this is totally justifiable. they might have broken new ground with the story - but soap opera's are geared towards stay at home moms & wives and honestly - i want romance between a man and a woman and some drama etc. i am all for equal rights - but when it comes to daytime drama - it's audience is the lonely stay at home woman or man who wishes they had some romance. i don't want to watch something i totally can not relate to.

  9. 9

On soaps couples either break up or get written off into the sunset. It's the way of things. Sucks though. Still pissed about what AMC did with their lesbians…

  10. 10

"Reportedly" being the operative word here. Have you ever even seen a soap opera? Relationships end pretty much everyday on them, toolbag. It would be completely out of left field for two young people to remain a couple on one, regardless of sexual orientation.

  11. 11

Thanks for the pic Perez :)
    Hetero women LOVE gay men!!!

  12. 12

well perez thanks a whole hell of alot for telling is what happens with them and the baby…you ruined that part of the show.

  13. 13

Re: ocreamsicle – I was JUST thinking the same thing! This is like the 15th gay article of the day. May as rename this website "gaypoliticalnews&justalittlecelebgossip.com".

  14. 14

No point ever watching or thinking of this show again.

  15. 15

Typical for American networks to use a storyline for a year or two, then move on. I have to admit it was nice seeing a change in the "soaps' line-up, but they're story is all too common. Luke and Noah on ATWT anyday!

PS…. why do negative nancy's come to this site? Us gay people are taking over, and don't you forget it! ;)

  16. Wrenn says – reply to this

Most people watching soap operas are older women who are against homosexuality. A lot of people that I know stopped watching certain soaps when they introduced a gay storyline. It's gross!!!!!

  17. 17

good! i dont know what it is. i really dont care if your gay or lesbian, but i just dont want to see it. i know its a total double standard but i would rather see 2 girls kiss then 2 men. its so, i dont know the word, (maybe) non masculante. its just gross, it doesnt look right.

  18. 18

you have got to be kidding me. They are a great couple. I was hoping that Fish would find out that he is Sierra's father and that they would raise the baby together.

  19. 19

    Fuck them.

  20. 20

this show is about ugly bitches and gay men

  21. 21

i was waiting for them to get custody, i just watched it today and was wondering when we were gonna hear the paternity test results. Getting cut/ or written off the show happens all the time on soap operas, it's nothing new and it doesn't mean they have anything against gay people.

    let's not start a controversy.

  22. 22

I'll be honest I wasn't liking the gay storyline but also I think both the characters don't really have a storyline. Now can someone take GIGI off the show already as well!!! I think I would have rather had stacy live and gigi die.

  23. 23

Re: jesscb_ – lol i know, i really thought GiGi would get custody!!! oh well i just wished they atleast still kept them on the show.

  24. 24

  25. 25

OMG!!! You should've said MAJOR spoiler alert, you just killed like a big storyline in the show!! I love OLTL, have watched it for years and Fish and Kyle's story is just kind of at an impasse, and is definitely cool to be off now. They can't really take the story much further, and also they are really boring characters, so no big deal. Plus OLTL is all about the hot, crazy drama and Fish and Kyle just don't bring that. Also, them with a baby would really make their story even more of a snooze-fest.

  26. 26

Re: Wrenn – WOW! What a bitch! Then I guess it is fair for me to say that I think fat, middle-aged women who sit on their asses all day watching soaps are pretty gross too.

  27. 27

One Life To Live is a show that needs advertisers. The people that stay at home and still watching soaps want escapism. Those at home are still mostly women, which is why All My Children has had a lesbian on it with various relationships and children for YEARS. In fact Bianca is the "Mary Sue" of the show. She's everyone's darling.

It's not about gay. It's about escapism or else that same network would have axed Bianca years and years ago.

They also don't put a lot of not so good looking people on the show. Is that discrimination, too?

They had a gay male couple. They had them have a happy ending with no one having AIDS like they usually do to gay men. They were both very masculine. They weren't stereotypical.

    How is that not positive?

  28. 28

I personally think it's crap, main stream? Aren't gay people in the main stream now? I mean really, take the stick out of your butt it's 2010!

  29. 29

    Re: knitting nut
I know! I really was getting into this storyline! They could do so much with it, but they apparently aren't. That sucks. Oh well, I have to go get my youngest from school about 10 min's in and don't get back till 40-50 min's in….. bummer though….

  30. 30

I would rather watch Abe Vigoda and Betty White make out, than these two.

  31. 31

who cares! "kish" or whatever they were called was just a broke ass version of luke and noah from ATWT anyway! NUKE ALL THE WAY!

  32. 32

Re: Not my gumdrop buttons! – LOL I am gay and I was thinking the same thing! I was starting to think this was like Gay Day or something!

  33. 33

If I want to see that shit, I'll rent some gay porn!

  34. 34

Maybe if it was a straight couple you wouldnt have cared?

  35. 35

Re: AmbBenson – as a gay person myself, i totally agree with u. if most of their target audience didnt like the storyline, then it needs to go. thats how showbiz works.

  36. 36

Eh, the way these soap operas work, they'll be back eventually.

  37. 37

As a long time viewer of One Life to Live, (started way before Kyle
and Oliver story), I was very disappointed to read that ABC made
the decision to ax them from the story. What is even more
disappointing is the reason why - that the supposed "mainstream
audience" is can't handle seeing a gay couple. I think they are
insulting the intelligence of the OLTL audience here. I've been
following viewer reaction to the story line on Soap boards, and while
there are a few idiots who will spew some hate-filled rants, most of
    the reaction has been positive.

As a working person, I found ABCs treatment of the actors
especially appalling. It's fairly clear that the actors, Brett
Claywell and Scott Evans found out about the story being discontinued
from the TV Guide article. This is not the way to treat people who
have put their all into working on this show, and promoting the show.

Regretfully, I will no longer watch One Life to Live, when the
Kyle/Oliver story ends. I will not support a show that is more
concerned about what the bigoted minority thinks, than the reasonable

  38. 38

this is awful man this is the only reason i watch one life for Kish haha
na but for real though that kinda really sucks i mean i hope that its just a
rumor i mean there are other story lines that could be cut off and other actors
that have reason to be on the show

  39. 39

I am not upset they are being written off I am upset that you ruined the end of this storyline….a spoiler alert would have been nice.

  40. 40

    Re: DazedNCnfused

Fat, middle-aged women sitting on their asses watching soaps all day ARE gross, but so is this "all day, all gay" website.

  41. 41

Thanks for the SPOILER, Perez…. geez

  42. 42

Perez, I hope you continue to follow this story, because continued support might bring them back, as apparently the writers and EP are unhappy with this decision from the higher-ups at ABCD. This has been a lovely storyline, and the characters and actors (one of them an out gay man himself) are scapegoats for rating problems at the network. Please continue to devote time to this–it would be nice for this story to stay in the spotlight.

  43. 43

That sucks.. Like all soaps, they get rid of te gay characters..

  44. 44

    Good Riddance!

  45. 45

Fletcher family not happy. We are writing the network. This is a tremendous loss. Finally, my gay brother and gay friends had a realistic, believable, honest soap storyline which they could relater to, and now ABC is terminating it. tate

  46. 46

    Re: Wrenn – you're gross. Don't be a hater, don't be a bitch. tate

  47. 47

I think it sucks!! I liked the two of them together. It was some fresh air and up to date stuff. I am kind of pissed that they are being written off….To have this happen in this day and age really sets things back. As a single mom who happens to be straight, i saw nothing wrong with it and really enjoyed the story line.

  48. 48

I really like both of their characters!

  49. 49

I'm 54 and I've watched OLTL since I was 12. I'm also quite hetero. I LOVE FISH AND KYLE!!! It's one of my favorite story lines ever - in any soap (I hate to admit, I've watched AMC and GH just as long)… I'll write the show directly, but had to leave a post. I'm SO sad they're being written off… What an incredible storyline they could have pursued - "informal" joint custody between a gay couple and the aunt. So much potential - so little foresight.

  50. 50

Re: Wrenn – You are gross.

  51. 51

good bye!!! i stopped watching one life to live b.c of them! grow up perez!

  52. 52

In my country there are no gays. Thus, our soap operas deal with real life issues such as hating jews, hating americans, hating educated non-jews and non-americans, hating women and, of course, banging Lindsey Lohan on the beach…

  53. 53

Sucks! Been watching for years loong before this couple happened. But, I am glad they get Sierra Rose. The audience always knew that Fish was the father. So I saw this coming. Did not expect Stacy to die. Now they are going to throw Natalie and John down our throats! Now that's who I'm sick of! But, at least we got to see something different. Good luck to the actors. I'm female and I am glad to see the Fish and Kyle get her.

  54. 54

  56. 56

  57. 57

    Gigi should get Sierra Rose!

  58. 58

This bites. We always get treated less than equal. I'll never watch oltl again. As for you ignorant homophobes, go f^ck yourself. This is a site run by guess who? A GAY MAN. Don't like it? Go drink some drano and die. You mother should have killed your stupid ass in the womb. F^cktards.

  59. 59

Good & bad news to me, actually. I watch the show and really think OLTL is the last ABC soap worth watching. Anyway, I didn't really think these two characters had good chemistry as a couple. Bottom line. That said, their storyline was pretty good and they were all set up in a good place for a good continuing story — discovering Oliver was Sierra Rose's father, the custody trial, a whole domestic story of these two men raising a child together. It would've been fabulous. And the writers really invested in them to the degree that they were very full characters (Oliver was, at least - Kyle, not so much). But you knew where he was coming from, you understood his emotional journey. He just didn't pop out of a box and go "I'm gay" for ratings, publicity, or to pander to a political cause. I mean, he wasn't some sort of PC add-on character. And the whole who is Sierra Rose's father has been building up for awhile now. They're going to wrap it all up — the paternity and custody — and ship them all off by APRIL? If they're going to end the story, they should at least do it well and not rush it.

Hm, I just wish Oliver were with someone other than Kyle.

  60. 60

thanks for the spoiler alert you asshole..some of us actually watch the damn show.

  61. 61

Re: hollister2690 – What she said!

  62. 62

Re: foxrivergirl – Wow, you generalize A LOT in that statement you made. You don't think there are gay and lesbian people sitting at home during the days too? You don't think it would be nice to be able to have a show that more people can relate to, and not just make it relatable to the boring, straight housewives? Wouldn't it be nice to open your mind and see what issues are affecting people in America, and worldwide? In case you haven't noticed, not everyone has equal rights - and they should. Perhaps having more issues about this plight showcased in mainstream television would wake people like you up and get you to accept that IT'S NOT RIGHT that gays and lesbians are being excluded - even from television shows for crying out loud. It's truly sad that love of all kinds cannot be accepted, and it's 2010!

  63. 63

I started watching OLTL again just for the fact they were brave enough to go all out with a gay story line. They didn't hold back on the PDA and took it further then any other gay couple featured on a soap. (No "love hugs" here) I watch OLTL on and off for years, and quite frankly I am so disappointed they didn't think to continue the storyline featuring gay parenting. As a stay at home dad with a 14 year old son, and working husband, I would have enjoyed watching how this storyline played itself and would have showcased the woes of parenting, regardless of sexual orientation. Since babies on soaps get aged so quickly, I'd expect they would be raising a teenager in let's say, 4 months? LOL But seriously, this would have been a personal achievement for me since gay parenting isn't seen on the boob tube anywhere, the producers at OLTL dropped the ball on this one. And to you haters out there, who think gay people don't belong on daytime, primetime, anytime, anywhere, including this site? You can go suck it. This is our time in the sun my friend. Get used to the shade.

I wonder what ATWT gay couple are up to these days? Switching channels…

  64. 64

This is a shame. I really liked both of their characters, regardless of their orientation. They will both be missed.:(

  65. 65

Exactly, why does everything have to be about gay people. I have no problem with gay people butt when they are flamboyant and like a sissy.. I find it hard to look at gay men as men………. .

  66. 66

  67. 67

Unlike that, which is your life, eventually even gay people stop defining themselves as only gay. For television, they set out what they wanted to do and now they are moving on. Why is that bad. Other than being gay, WHAT IS THEIR STORY. NOTHING, that's what. NEXT!!!!

  68. 68

Because the mainstream is the majority of people and the majority of people don't want to watch two guys suck face!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that but if their storyline sucked, it sucked. Everything doesn't always have to be about rainbows, unicorns and gays!!

  69. 69

"of course…so effing typical"…you such a little bitch Mario. What part of mainstream don't you get?

  70. 70

doesn't belong on regular t.v..maybe they should make a gay channel just for that. i would change it because it's not something i want to see nor my children
and i'm entitled to that opinion.

  71. 71

The storline was going nowhere, and Kyle charcater was too obssesed with Sierra Rose. Why cant the soap just bring on a gay couple that has everday issues and not even mention the word gay??????

  72. 72

Very dissapointed in ABC. As a life long fan of OLTL, It would have been nice to have at least one couple that I could really relate to. :-(

  73. 73

I watch OLTL and it was uninteresting and boring. People thought it would be ground breaking but it really wasn't. They did a poor job with their entire storyline. That's why it's being taken out. Yawwwwwnnnnnnn!!

  74. cdrew says – reply to this

I am really disappointed. This storyline brought me back to the show.

It is sad that people are so prejudice.

This and the Dorian storyline made me propose to my partner, and as a Washington DC resident, I am getting married in two weeks.

  75. 75

Nothing is good enough for you, Perez, regarding the gays. At least they did a gay storyline! GMAFB.

  76. 76

Re: Not my gumdrop buttons! – haha! Rite!!

  77. 77

Re: Dontae79 – Oh lawd. Why do you feel the need to "take over?" Why not just co-exist and keep your sex lives–idk, private? Why shove your lifestyle in everyone's faces? Why not just be?

  78. 78

Re: TuffGuyLovesYou – Bitter much? Go get some therapy bitch.

  79. 79

    so sad

  80. 80

daytime is up in arms over this. Kish is adorable, well liked and don't even really fit the "GAAYYYYYYYY' thing because they are written like any other couple!!

  81. 81

I have been watching OLTL since way before many of you have been born, and I love KISH. It wasn't one of the forced romances that can come with many soap characters, i.e. NIZ of GH. Their romance was like many others, with a few different tweeks. Oliver didn't want to face the fact that he was a gay man trying to live in the society of "Don't ask, don't tell". Fish never pushed him to realize that he was gay. He knew what it was like to have to not really accept your true self. Fish stood by when Oliver's family disowned him. KISH found true friends like Oliver's adopted mom Roxy, Christian, John and many others who could careless that they were a gay couple, but just a couple who were in love.
OLTL is being real dumb, buy I guess they don't realize this is the 21st century, and there aren't just stay at home mom's watching soaps. There are different types now and please open your eyes to a wonderful story line of two gay men raising a baby. It ain't hard to open them, do it before it is too late.

  82. 82

I am EXTREMELY upset about the casting move. I have watched OLTL for the past 15 years ( I am 26) and will no longer be watching (at least for the time being) because of this. KISH was the BEST couple on that show. FUCK THE HATERS!!

  83. 83

Re: LisaLu – guess what i am a straight woman, and i could care less if someone was shoving how much they love someone, you don't get to pick who you love. be it male/male, female/female, man/woman. who are you to judge?????

  84. 84

I have been watching that show for years–and am so glad they are dropping the GAY story–what a waste those- guys– were so hot–but not together–ICK

  85. 85

Have to link this to your Jeremy Renner story. Are these two actors gay b/c they play gay men on a soap? Must be, right? Jesus christ.

  86. 86

I really wish you would put **SPOILER ALERT** this is a big story line and those of us that watch it would like to find out on our own!!!!!!!

  87. 87

Re: ocreamsicle – HELLO NEWSFLASH!! IT IS HIS FUCKING WEBSITE! WTF, AND HE IS A GAY MALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  88. 88

Re: #Cejers – HAHAHAHA! Perez is just feeling empowered today! LOL! He must have met up with Heidi's manager!! LMAO!

  89. 89

i think its sad! KISH is the only reason why i watched One Life To Live! I hope they reconsider and leave them on the show! Ill stop watching the show if they really take them off .
