"The Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition is a non-profit agency, founded in 1989 with the support of the United Way of Greater St. Louis.

At our agency we do two things:

Recruitment: We are one of the area’s largest recruiter of foster/adoptive homes because of our partnerships with the local media, including KSDK and 13 local newspapers.

Resource Center: Foster and adoptive parenting is a rewarding—but demanding—job. We offer many supports to parents, including support groups, training, advocacy, newsletters, a resale shop, and the Little Wishes program.

The Coalition consists of 38 member agencies, including the area’s most-respected public and private agencies. Our staff is made up of foster/adoptive parents and child welfare professionals with a broad range of expertise. As a non-profit, 501(c)(3) agency, we are overseen by a Board of Directors. The board is made up of a variety of corporate and child welfare representatives, many of whom are foster/adoptive parents.

We are committed to fiscal responsibility, and are proud to be recognized by the Better Business Bureau as an honor roll charity. Also, as a member agency of the United Way of Greater St. Louis, we are required to meet rigorous financial and programmatic outcomes."

      Don't bother!

Foster parents are treated like shit. I was one for over 6 years and if a child fell down they would investigate you like you had something to do with it.

social workers suck………save your ass….use a surrogate to have kids.

…For the last seventy years, liberals have asked blacks to elect and empower them so that they could defend us from racist conservatives who were trying to keep us down. They said that without them, we would be relegated to an inferior education, lower-paying jobs, and the sorrow of institutional racism. (And it has happened, but with a different cause.) But after all this time in power, how has liberalism benefited us?…

…It's time for black voters to elect candidates who will reverse the ambition-numbing effects of seventy years of liberals. It's time to turn the wheel in the other direction as hard as we can. If we did nothing else other than vote against liberals, we would be far better off. We would see immediate and incredible advances toward the society that Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of instead of this hellish nightmare that keeps getting worse… - portions from Chris Bell article

Perhaps attacking the ’cause' instead of the 'effect', of Liberalism could be beneficial for the plight of the blacks?

The mission of this organization appears to be about making efforts to BETTER support foster and adopted children AND their caregivers. What a unique and worthy cause!!

Re: Wishes.4 – ACORN has a similar mission statement.

Please send in $5 for another worthy cause of black babies needing people to take care of them.
Mom and Dad, where are you?

I was a foster parent as well, and adopted twice from the system (and while I hate to even acknowledge some "points" from a previous poster, the majority of the children in the system where we were licensed were CAUCASIAN).
Is it tough? Yes. Do you sometimes feel more persecuted than the parents who have at least temporarily lost custody? Yes. Does it financially and emotionally drain you if you do it correctly? ABSOLUTELY. But I cannot think of a more worthwhile pursuit than helping in the life of a child.
People should also keep in mind that the purpose of foster care is to preserve the family if at all possible, so yes, if you want to adopt, go another route. That's not why we have foster care. It's to help families in need if they can be saved, and adoption is only there as a last resort. It's not a competition between what is "better", the foster family or the biological family; if the biological family takes the steps necessary to improve the child's life, the child will be and should be returned to their family.
