Bar Asked To Dump Leo - By Israeli Nationalists!
Careful Leonardo DiCaprio, you're diluting the Jewish race! Well, according to Jewish extremists you are.
On behalf of nationalist group Lehava, far-rightist Baruch Marzel wrote a letter to hottie Bar Refaeli urging her not to marry Leo.
Seriously. Marzel wrote to Bar:
"It is not by chance you were born Jewish.
Your grandmother and her grandmother did not dream one of their descendants would remove future generations from the Jewish people.
Assimilation has forever been one of the enemies of the Jewish people."
The representative of the group which seeks to prevent assimilation among Jews, then added that he "has nothing against Mr. DiCaprio, who I have no doubt is a talented actor."
Marzel pleaded again, adding:
"Come to your senses, look forward and back too - and not only the present.
Don't marry Leonardo DiCaprio, don't harm the future generations."
What the hell is he talking about? It'll be up to Leo and Bar if they have children and decide to raise them in the Jewish religion.
And we can bet their children will be gorgeous!

first of all when people from long lines of jewish ancestors marry eachother there is a chance for genetic diseases in the children. its so widespread that when a caucasian jewish couple decide to have children they both get tested for the genetic diseases. if a jewish girl were to marry a jewish guy it would just about wipe out the chance of their children having or carrying the genetic disease. which is good.and their kids wouldnt look that different, bar and leo have similar hair and eye color.

Victims of child abuse often abuse their children, etc. Much therapeutic intervention is needed to stop the cycle of abuse once it has begun. The Jewish people have suffered. Their persecution has been extensive and horrific for too many centuries. But, inevitably, victims develop aspects of those who victimized them. Some Jews and some Israeli leaders (note I do not say ALL) call for "religious/racial/cultural purity", deny others basic civil rights they were denied in the past, and have, in short, developed some of their former oppressors awful traits. I truly pray the Jewish people/Israel get the help they need (through prayer, therapy, honest dialogue, what ever it takes) so that one day you can be a truly free people…people free of the scars left by victimization, and a people free of the self-perpetuating chains of victimization…in essence: a people/nation that treats ALL humans equally, fairly and with compassion, the way you SHOULD have been treated, but were not. Jews are a race of people just like arabs. Actaully its the same race of people as arabs, they were nomadic tribes before they became Jewish (in modern understanding). So in reality there is a bloodline there. But the sad thing is, not one blood line can be non diluted. Jews have mixed with many races through out the years and no one can claim to be 100% Jew. Even in tribal days, tribes would capture women and marry them into the other tribe. Anywho, Jewish race is a very diluted thing, but it is not just a religion. Jews were jews before moses. Firstly, Judaism IS NOT a race. It is a religion. You cannot be born with beliefs you are raised with them.
Secondly, Israel has nothing to do with the statement that was made. It could have been stated anywhere. And it definitly does not represent the general population who are largely secular.
Thirdly, do not blame the Jewish religion for this statement. This statement was made by someone who is very conservative. This statement could have been made by ANY religious person who is as well very conservative.
As OUTRAGEOUS as this is, I'm really not surprised. I dated a Jewish boy in 9th grade and I remember his mom telling me that her son would "eventually" be with a Jewish girl so not to get "too into the relationship". You'd think that Jews would be the MOST anti-racist, but sadly it's the opposite.

What is true of Israel proper, including Israeli Arab areas, is not true of the occupied territories. Israel ended its occupation of the Gaza several years ago, only to be attacked by Hamas rockets. Israel maintains its occupation of the West Bank only because the Palestinians walked away from a generous offer of statehood on 97% of the West Bank, with its capital in Jerusalem and with a $35 billion compensation package for refugees. Had it accepted that offer by President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Ehud Barak, there would be a Palestinian state in the West Bank. There would be no separation barrier. There would be no roads restricted to Israeli citizens (Jews, Arabs and Christians.) And there would be no civilian settlements.
But to call an occupation, which continues because of the refusal of the Palestinians to accept the two-state solution, "Apartheid" is to misuse that word. As those of us who fought in the actual struggle of apartheid well understand, there is no comparison between what happened in South Africa and what is now taking place on the West Bank. The current "Israel Apartheid Week" on universities around the world, by focusing only on the imperfections of the Middle East's sole democracy, is carefully designed to cover up far more serious problems of real apartheid in Arab and Muslim nations. The question is why do so many people identify with regimes that denigrate women, gays, non-Muslims, dissenters, environmentalists and human rights advocates, while demonizing a democratic regime that grants equal rights to women (the chief justice and speaker of the Parliament of Israel are women), gays (there are openly gay generals in the Israeli Army), non-Jews (Muslims and Christians serve in high positions in Israel) and dissenters, (virtually all Israelis dissent about something). Israel has the best environmental record in the Middle East, it exports more life saving medical technology than any country in the region and it has sacrificed more for peace than any country in the Middle East.
Re: ml456 – I had not heard about "Israel Apartheid Week" at universities (I'm long past university days and out of the loop). And, when I say that unequal treatment under the law is a a basic component of an apartheid state I do not mean that it is the ONLY component. I think the rights Arabs do have in Israel (as you have enumerated) is a good thing, but they are far short of EQUAL treatment under the law. By the way, I have only studied the laws within Israel itself, I don't know enough about the West Bank and Gaza, so I reserve any judgment on that. As for Rep Conyers statement, any Congressman can be bought with enough contributions from lobbying groups, so statements from politicians offer no cover nowadays. And understand that by critiquing Israel it does not mean than one is lauding the practices of Arab states (a whole other set of often nasty human rights issues). Israel should not compare itself to Arabs states (do not set the bar so low, you can do better than that). Israel should compare itself to the United States and the European Community. We are not perfect, but Israel's legal equality falls far short of that provided in the U.S. and the E.U. to its diverse ethnic citizens.

Although they have a much easier time getting an exemption so many choose not to. I was in a strictly orthodox unit in the army, so it was only Jews in my unit. But I have friends who had arabs in their unit.

Re: ml456 – Hi ml456, I don't know if you're still reading this old post, but I promised a list on unequal treatment of non-Jews (Arabs, Druze, Bedouins) in Israel when I had time so here is just a partial list (a full list would go on to long for this website, you can audit Duncan Kennedy's class at Harvard Law School, I think he's the one currently teaching it, but the profs change, and there are similar classes at many law schools around the country). 1) Arab municipalities receive much less educational funding (41 out of the 50 least paid municipalities are Arab). 2) Many Arab neighborhoods do not have adequate sewage systems. 3) Arab neighborhoods have separate (and unequal) budgets for industrial infrastructure. 4) Unrecognized Arab villages are systematically denied basic services such as electricity, water, telephone, road access, etc.
Re: ml456 – 5) Kibbutz state lands used for agriculture were transferred to residential use and Arabs were excluded. One example: An Arab couple who requested housing in Kibbutz Alonim (check my spelling on that one) was refused housing on the basis of ethnicity. 6) There's a general inequality in the allocation of land for development of residential housing.

The reduced income tax rates for those in towns bordering Lebanon have been denied to some Arab towns. 9) Arab lands were expropriated in Nazareth and the Supreme Court upheld it. 10) Ultra-Orthodox Jews exempted from military service receive "discharged soldiers benefits" although they never served, and Arabs who never serve are not given those benefits.

I have no relatives/friends on either side of the situation, and never think about it unless it's in the news (or on perezhilton lol!) I've, on purpose, left out of the above list more incendiary issues such as unequal treatment of prisoners (gets too gory) and West Bank, Gaza, and stuff that gets people more angry. The tone of this string of comments got ugly and I kept my above examples as coldly academic as I could because I don't want to start any more vicious rants, just wanted to answer your request for specific examples by giving you some of them.
