"QAMP! provides GLBTQ-identifying youth and their siblings a week-long, traditional summer camp experience. This camp will give youth ages 13-21 who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning their sexuality or gender a chance to enjoy a week outdoors with their peers. QAMP! is open to youth nationwide.

QAMP'ers can take part in a wide range of activities like canoeing, swimming, camping, climbing walls, sports, arts and much more. Along with these fun activities and programs, they will gain friendships, memories, self-confidence and life skills in a safe, nurturing community of their peers and highly trained staff.

QAMP! takes place at One Heartland Center, which is surrounded in a beautiful north woods setting just 90 minutes north of the Twin Cities. One Heartland Center is accredited through the American Camp Association.

Some partial and full scholarships are available for youth and families of need."

what a great idea! we should also have a blow job camp so we can teach all the 13 year old girls the proper technique and form. i guess its never too early to expose kids to sex.

Re: buck – I don't exactly think that's what they are going for. Camp always has a bit of the romantic, tho. My first kiss happened at camp, and other people's first…something happened there.

If gay kids need someplace to go to feel "safe" and not picked on, what's the problem?

I'm not sure that I like the whole separatist thing, BUT…they're kids and if they need this type of experience to feel better about themselves…go for it.

Re: buck – I can kind of see what you're saying (maybe its the way Perez chose to write about it) But you have to remember that a lot of glbtq kids feel very alone at that age. If this camp offers a safe, understanding, NON-SEXUAL enviroment for these kids to be themselves without fear of bullying or rejection then maybe its a good thing. But I don't really know enough about it to know if thats the case. I hope it is.

Why does this idea seem so wrong?! Perez, you couldn't have written about it in a worse way, could you? It just seems like a camp ran by pedos :/

I work for One Heartland and this is only one amazing project that we run. Here in New York we have a family camp for families living with HIV & AIDS…thank you so much for running this story - you should come volunteer!!! xo

Re: buck – Are you kidding?? Just ’cause Perez writes these things like a campy queen doesn't mean you have to respond in kind. Your comment is really inappropriate and reflective of the kind of knee-jerk social conservative drivel I'd expect out of people like G.W. "Shrub" — out of YOU I'd expect much better.
