Corey Haim's Hometown Of Toronto Covers His Funeral Costs!

Wow!

We reported earlier that the celebrity memorabilia site, Startificats.com, had offered to pay for late actor Corey Haim's funeral when it was announced his family could not afford to, but it appears now that the actor's home town, Toronto, will instead be covering the costs!!

So touching!

Startifacts, however, will still be donating the $20,000 to help pay for extra expenses, including the actor's tombstone.

A rep for the site says:

“We gave that money out of the goodness of our heart, but we do work with so many celebrities and we always try to help them out, especially when they’re hard on cash."

They also plan on holding a benefit auction with Haim's belongings in the near future.

We think it's lovely that so many have come forward to help out a family clearly in need!

We're sure Corey's mother is so grateful!

seems like $20,000 could've put a lot of food on people's tables who really needed it..

    2. 2

TORONTO IS NOT PAYING FOR THE FUNERAL!
get your facts straight before your report stuff my god!
the funeral home is paying for the funeral… the city, you know where all of our taxes go, is not spending money on a funeral when were in the biggest defeciet weve ever had.

    3. 3

Getting sick of this story Mario time to move on…

    4. 4

really? wow! since I actually pay taxes here I hope they pay for mine one day too.

    5. 5

      chill the fuck out bubblegum

    6. 6

Perez it is the FUNERAL HOME that is paying for this, not the fuckin city of Toronto…. wtf. Your staffers suck, and I am sure they won't post this which only proves my point!

    7. 7

      He looks like Chaz Bono.

    8. 8

This just pisses me off. Celebrities who eff up their lives by their own doing getting a hand-out. Who's helping middle-class america.

Why do we allow this. THIS IS BULL!!

    9. 9

wow you really need to maybe check your fact before you send them out.. if you bothered to actually research you would know that the city is not fronting the bill.. they even put out a statement saying that they were never even approached to help assist in the cost of the funeral..

    10. 10

      NEXT MOVE ON!!!!!!!!

He could have made a fortune in lesbian porn.

the city of toronto (i.e. the mayor's people) have issued a statement that they are NOT PAYING FOR HIS FUNERAL AND THEY DO NOT GO AROUND PAYING FOR PEOPLE'S FUNERALS. The funeral home is being quiet about it, but looks like they are helping with it. don't know where or who his mother is getting information from. Corey Feldman is NOT going to the funeral for some reason though. did not even bother to read his excuse

They're probably paying for it with the $100million mayor David Miller "found" lying around somewhere. What a good thing to put it towards, a Torontonian who no longer lived in his country, instead helping to boost the economy of LA and NOT his hometown. This disgusts me, if true. Which i doubt since the radio and tv are both screaming that its not

First of all, it's not happening. Second of all, not one red cent of YOUR money would go into that expense, unless you are a PROPERTY-TAX PAYING RESIDENT OR BUSINESS IN TORONTO. And I don't think you are. So, shut it.

    15. 15

Re: katyb – You know what, katyb, I think you and I are in the same pot, but I disagree with you. The city is spending tax-payers' money like a dunken sailor & there's nothing we can do about it. So, in comparison to Mayor Miller's wasteful 'projects', this is a drop in the bucket. I've enjoyed Corey's movies over many years, so the city using a few bucks of my tax $ to pay for a portion of his funeral wouldn't bother me the least.

    16. 16

Canadians Rule! Too bad. he was a good kid but just got in with the wrong crowd!

    17. 17

Epic fail. Toronto is NOT paying for his funeral. Thankfully. So this douche never even had life insurance? Okay, I can see it being pricey to fly a body somewhere for burial, but if his Mom is getting 20 grand from that other skeeve who is selling Haims stuff, seems to me that 20 grand should be enough for transport, a basic funeral and grave marker.

      Re: SpaceCaddie
I didn't even look at it like that. I suppose its better to know where the moneys going, instead of not being allowed a look into our citys spending habits. But I can't say I ever watched one of his movies, which makes me bias. The first I really ever saw of him was in the two coreys, so that was my first impression of him.

    19. 19

He's just another druggie loser with plucked eyebrows!

    20. 20

The city is in debt and it's paying for this hasbeen's funeral? I think you must have gotten your facts wrong. Oh yeah, you're not a real reporter.

    21. 21

UPDATE: Fortunately the city of Toronto is not paying for the funeral. Our taxes are high enough! arrg!

    22. 22

So the guy was in one good movie. Move on. Drugs are dumb.

    23. 23

Canada paid for that horrible horrible opening/closing ceremony for the olympics…….so…..paying for this wouldnt shock me, however i dont believe Canada is paying for it. (yes i said crap about the olympics, we all thought it, i'm the only one with guts to say it)

    24. 24

Re: SpaceCaddie – You must be an effed up celebrity who's going to need a hand-out soon. Possibly the ONLY reason why this would be OK to you.

    25. 25

first of all, Toronto is a BIG CITY.
      NOT a town.
second, in Canada we don't waste tax payers money on celebrity funerals.
maybe perez should start writing the blogs again because your staff sucks.

    26. 26

My whay a bunch of bitter Betty's and negative Nellie's! Yes, Haim screwed up his own life, ultimately killing himself, no matter the end ’cause' of his heart stopping. However, his poor mother–who is going through cancer treatment, has no money, lost her only child. I can't imagine the stress of not knowing how you were going to be able to pay for his final expenses on top of everything else she has to deal with. I think both the funeral home and the auction house should be applauded–ultimately, this is for his mom, not Corey Haim.

    27. 27

Corey was a person and for all of you complaining of his past just get over it! hes dead! let him rest in peace! Have some respect for the dead, who cares who paid for what! He was young and you know damn well whos the only one who can judge him. GET A LIFE!

    28. 28

Ummm this is a load of crap, cities don't cover funeral costs!
I hope the people from the academy awards put him on their f'ed up list next year!

    29. 29

They are airing the Two Corey's and I saw an episode where Cory was saying to Cory F that he had something going on with his heart and they filmed him getting an EKG. So something has been going on for awhile. Maybe if he was in Canada, he would have got a little more treatment for this condition. Sadly.

    30. 30

@alliestp - Toronto is not in middle class America - that would be in Canada. Glad to hear it's actually the funeral home and not the city because as a taxpayer I'd throw a fit! It's sad though that the only reason the funeral home is doing this is to get their name out there (which, as demonstrated by Perez's steller fact checking, isn't actually working) - I doubt they'd be doing this for some poor citizen (who probably HAS lived there for their whole life) and had a drug problem. I'd be willing to put money on that actually. Disgusting the whole thing. Why isn't the government looking into doctors who just RX these things to patients? They are out of control with RX'ing pain medication as evidenced by the sharp increase in just regular people becoming addicted to them … it discusts me.

    31. 31

well i hope when all of u negative assholes die, you get the same respect youre giving now! you know do unto others? cast the first stone? does that sound familiar? didnt think so! im out this bitch peace!

    32. 32

it`s so sad that he`s dead :( can imagine that he many times wanted to shout out the name of his abuser! i think feldman should have the courage to do this last thing for his friend :( must have been awful for corey haim, that "he still was hanging out with him" must have felt like a betrayal. you are excused when not telling at the age of 14,,,but stab your friend in the back by still be the molester`s friend is a quite awful thing to do. Watched an interview where he says that the woman who played his mother in "the lost boys" was the one he would pick if he didn`t have the one he had, saying she would come up to him, and just hold her arms around him:( she was probably a safe harbour for him at the time.(

    33. 33

Toronto is not a 'town' its a big city, in fact it is Canada's largest city (population wise).
And yes in some cases the city would pay for a persons funeral, HOWEVER, it would be someone who died alone and it would be a barely minimal 'welfare' funeral, cremation, unmarked grave, no funeral.
Could you imagine with the homeless population in Toronto if someone there died with no family, what do you think happens to them? They would need burial.
      Its sad, but thats reality.

    34. 34

The city is NOT paying his funeral expenses. The Chapel (funeral home) is helping to defray the costs.

Can't believe this guy didn't have life insurance.

    35. 35

      Re: kblixen8

If Feldman shelled out every time one of his best friends died, he'd be flat broke.

    36. 36

Re: monnie – I couldn't agree more - i was thinking exactly that. It sounds that he and his mom were strapped for cash, and obviously her cancer treatment was costing a lot, so it's totally possible that his health problems went unattended to. It's very likely that both of them would have been better off living in Toronto & maybe he wouldn't be dead now. I'm just really surprised his mom didn't call an ambulance when he had trouble breathing earlier that night, but I guess it costs $ for an ambulance to come and help. I know I don't need to worry about that, living in Ontario, Canada - if I need an ambulance, I call without worrying about $.

    37. 37

Re: JorenC – It's hypocritical of Feldman to be going on Larry King and proclaiming Haim to be his "brother" and then berate other celebrities for not being there for him. Well, where is he now? I understand he may not be loaded, but if he cared for Haim so deeply, now is the time to prove it & help the family with funeral costs.

    38. 38

The kid was an asshole. He was irrelevant for the last 20 years and would have continued to be so for the next 20. This shit about him cleaning up his act is bull-shit and we all know it. He was an addict with no intention of turning his life around, just trying to make the public believe he was a victim when he's the one who chose to make himself the victim. Why is his death any different or more important the typical addict? Addiction is a horrifying disease, but it's also one you can chose to overcome.

    39. 39

      Re: SpaceCaddie
did you ever have to take an abulance in Ontario? Im guessing no, if you did you would know OHIP doesnt cover ambulance costs. Unless you have private insurance through work (which a lot of people do) then it would cost about $50 (depending on the city, and still a hell of a lot cheaper than the US)
I have lived in a few different towns/cities in Ontario, and now that Im in Ottawa I know its not covered (by OHIP anyways)

    40. 40

Did anyone ever think that maybe the city of toronto is not paying for the funeral, nor that it ever meant that the CITY/GOVERNMENT was helping, but rather the good folks in the CITY OF Toronto? I heard the funeral home was helping…..As well, just because the memorabilia site was offering 20K, did anyone ever say the funeral was 20K or that she asked that. Maybe the memorabilia site was offering a set amount to help with the funeral AND other things that go with it….SECURITY, transportation? Regardless of what this kid did, and he was just a kid, you can't blame him for people WANTING to help, asked or not.

    41. 41

I'm a funeral director in Toronto, and let me tell you, if the city was paying, he'd be getting precious little. A funeral that is paid for by the city is very basic, and if he truly did die without means, then he would be entitled. The funeral home, Steeles Memorial Chapel, is apparently covering the costs. Good for them.

    42. 42

      Still wrong, huh Mario.
      Sigh.
