Mel Brooks is taking his classic flick Blazing Saddles and is putting it to music for a new stage production. At present, it is said that the funnyman has penned two musical numbers for the show and is in the middle of a third.
In a recent interview, Mel confessed that he wouldn't be rushing the production to New York once it is completed for fear of what the NYT will say. He explained:
"If I did it, I wouldn't rush to New York with it because the Times (newspaper) would say, 'Oh dear, oh dear, another movie converted and transmogrified into a musical… The Times was only lukewarm to Young Frankenstein."
Their reaction was a reflection of the show itself. No doubt, they will have the same reaction to this newest venture.
Besides, there will never be another Madeline Kahn.

Blazing Saddles is a classic! Love it.
I think this is one of the best movies in our history- it's hilarious and such a great satire about how stupid racism is in our country. I say - do it! (Though of course it won't replace the movie)

Re: perezfucksgoats – 1st off Yes - the movie WAS a musical! And Secondly….Mel Brooks CAN DO NO WRONG!! The man is a comedic GENIUS!!! What was so clever about Mel was that in movies such as Blazing Saddles, is that he could touch on topics such as racial & political 'wrongness' and no one would even blink an eye. He's absolutely the funniest man on earth! I LOVE LOVE LOVE MEL BROOKS!!!!
The NYT isn't buying the tickets, the public is. Kristen Chenowith could do Madelines' part and Mel Brooks is a living legend. Even his flops are gold. Look at History of the World. Not a biggie, but everyone knows atleast one song from it.
