Blockbuster Filing For Bankruptcy???

So when you decided to bring back your late fees, Blockbuster, it was actually your desperate attempt to dig yourself out of a financial hole by gauging your customers!

Sad!

On Tuesday, the video rental company put in a regulatory filing claiming that it was suffering from “significant liquidity constraints” and could have to file for bankruptcy fairly soon.

The uprising of services like Netflix and DVD vending machines have put Blockbuster in a real bind and already, over 1,300 stores have been shut down.

Tough break!

They've been closing stores for over a year now. Where have you been. Lol I just rented 2 movies for $1.00 each. I always return them on time (knock on wood) and I save alot.

Good riddance! And rather than say I hope every crooked employee burns in hell for all eternity, I hope they all find themselves permanently lodged between the sweaty a$$cheeks of some grotesquely obese demon that has just eaten a huge vat of 4 alarm chili, and washed it down with an equally huge vat of Tabasco sauce.
[Shakes "maracas" at all you hating putas]

I am very glad Blockbuster is possibly shutting down (finally). They have been in trouble for years. Any company that has as poor of customer service as Blockbuster deserves to be out of business. Do you know why Blockbuster's mailing ploy didn't work? Because they suck. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

It was only a matter of time. Who the hell goes to a video store to rent movies anymore?

    6. 6

block buster is a rude ass overprice much beg you to buy more stuff and plus fees fuck NO place never go there regualry on occasion thought hahy\uh and say if you have to movie or excuses excuse BS> bye could care less there rude to the costumers employees

    7. 7

it's gouging, not gauging your customers

Once I had family fly in relatively late in the evening and we decided to rent some movies to watch at around 9:45pm or so, right before they closed. We paid full rental price and then realized that the movies had to be dropped off by noon the next day. Annoying in that they were long movies and it was more than one and we had to watch them that night since we weren't waking up early or else we'd have been charged another day even though we had only had the dvds for a little over 12 hours. It's shit like that which made me loathe Blockbuster.

    9. 9

That's because Blockbuster has actually been BALL busting America for quite some time now. Their prices have always been OUTRAGEOUS!

    10. 10

Uhm, how is that gouging??? Take your movies back on time! If you pay your car payment late you get a late fee. That's just how it is.

    11. 11

And it should also end their not carrying some films because they deem them to be not appropriate for people to see. One less "fambly values" corporation to push that tiresome agenda.

    12. 12

Don't forget video downloads. That is what i do. I have not been on a video store in over 5 years and never joined netflix. Does netflix do online streaming also? If not they will be doomed soon enough.

    13. 13

Let's not forget the fact that they find it their 'moral' obligation NOT to carry NC-17 movies. Ugh! It's about time Cockbuster took a financial pounding.

    14. 14

You really need to get your story straight. Most blockbusters are different from each other. Some are owned by franchises. All Memphis area stores (save one corporate location) have ALWAYS charged late fees. And the late fee program we have was chosen by customers YEARS ago. So if you can't bring back your 5 day rental on time. we charge you a 1/5 the rental price per day. 2 day rentals are 1/2 rental price per day. How is that not fair? I have never wanted to draw jizz on your face more than right now

    15. 15

Normally, I would bad for any business that is in this situation but not Blockbuster. When Blockbuster was the monopoly they rose prices every chance they got. I remember when there was not a red box around or Netflix and Blockbuster was charging almost 5 dollars a movie and if you were late they charged you astronomically fees and then it was associated to your credit. So nope sorry, don't feel bad for Blockbuster at all. They should have treated they're customers better when they had them.

    16. 16

Do you have any idea how many jobs Blockbuster provides? I for one don't want to see all the thousands of people who work for them lose their source of income. So what, late fees are back, bring your movies back on time. $5 for 5 days is the same as redbox being $1/day. The difference is your helping your community by going to Blockbuster and keeping everyday people like yourself with a paycheck. I don't care if you have had shitty service there once or twice, guess what, you get shitty service every once in awhile everywhere!

    17. 17

Blockbuster has been going Bankrupt for how many years now?!?! Seriously, WHO CARES anymore, and WHO RENTS MOVIES at blockbusters as well?!? It is so old fashion!! ;)

    18. 18

why is it that it is blockbusters fault that people are irresponsible. if you cant return your movies on time, dont rent from them. oh but soon you will wait to rent them. just watch

    19. 19

you dont like bb dont go there. go to the movies and pay 2x as much. the more you bitch to the employees the worse service you will get. be nice and they are nice back. you have to remember the people working there dont make much and they are not the ones who change the prices. again be responsible take your movies back so others can rent them. not that hard

    20. 20

That's what happens when you SUCK

    21. 21

GOUGING. This word means to overcharge.
Blockbuster lost my business several years ago by gouging me on late fees once. I NEVER went back. They're NOT the only game in town.
Its the Chuck E CHeese of video rentals.

    22. 22

      Re: tom951

Netflix has been offering streaming options for quite some time now.

    23. 23

Most people don't have a good opinion of BB any more. I've worked there for 6 months now, and at my store, we STRIVE to give the best customer service possible.
We have had late fees for as long as i've worked there. We had the option of 1 day or five days, no late fees on 5 days, but 1 dollar a day for 1 day rentals. And our movies aren't due back at noon, they're due back at 9pm.
It may not be true for many stores, but i know a couple dozen of our loyal customers by name. Our prices aren't bad, you just pay up front instead of $1 then the rest when you turn it in to the red box.
Also, if your disc is scratched, the redbox won't exactly sympathize with you. Rent something you've already seen? You're shit out of luck. At BB stores you can come in and we'll exchange it for free. Netflix takes too long to arrive. People are far too inclined toward instant gratification to wait a few days for a movie.

    24. 24

it really bothers me how all of you are rejoicing in the end of a corporation…what about all the people who work there who will lose their jobs? why are you be happy about that? what if it was the company that you worked for that was closing its doors and leaving you jobless?
the economy is bad and it could easily be any corporation going bankrupt, so i suggest that instead of being insensitive and rudely celebrating the loss of millions of jobs, you be slightly more humble, and if you don't have nothing nice to say not say it at all.

    25. 25

BYE BYE BALL BUSTING BLOCKBUSTER, we will NOT miss U a bit.

    26. 26

sent me to a collection agency for $6.41. Still on my credit. Late fee? FUCK YOU GUYS! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA. I remember buying brand new VHS there for WAY over $20 back in the day. Reap what u sew greedy fuckers.

    27. 27

      THATS BECAUSE OF NEXFLEX

    28. 28

YAY death to all corporate video stores! Long live Indie video stores like Stadium Video!

    29. 29

Hey Blockbuster Haters, I just want to say, on behalf of being employed by this corporate company, there are a lot of things this company has done and is doing that I don't agree with. Heck, I complain about what they decide quite often. They keep changing their policies which frustrates you, the customer, and it annoys me too.But when it comes to the employees, we have no power over these return policies, the hours of operation, and what "promotion" were supposed to push that week. These are things that we are told to do by the company. At the store I work at, I know I try to give the best customer service. I don't try to push promotions on people who don't want them, only offer them to people they really will benefit. If your disc is scratched-we give you another copy or a credit for another film. Not sure if you have rented the movie before? Ask and we can tell you by looking at your rental history. That's how the store I work at is.Yes, Blockbuster is over-priced, and honestly the company hasn't been run the best. But don't hate on the employees. The many of us are people like you, stuck in job for the sake of it being job, just to pay the bills. So it really sucks for those of us who will be losing our jobs very soon.So don't hate on the employees. Hate on the company :)
