Shitty book, shitty movie, shitty philosophy. I am sure middle aged fat women just can't wait to see this and pretend it was their life. Well it ain't you will never go to Europe, attractive men will never fall in love with you and you will never find peace or happiness. So cut the sh*t and stop watching Oprah your God and grow the f*ck up.

A way to F up a really excellent book. I am disappointed they picked Julia Roberts. I am sorry, she is getting old and in the book the woman with the mid life crises is 30 years old. Julia is a great actress but her age is catching up to her and those lip injections make her look worse.
They should have chose someone a little younger, Kate Winslet? Charlise Theron, Hilary Swank? Anyone but Julia..

Here is why movies/books like this make me mad: this chick is obviously debt-free with no kids, so of course she can just move away for a year to "find herself." I'm 27, trying to get my career going, AND have tons of student debt, so short of joining the Peace Corps (which I've contemplated), I'm stuck at my desk job for awhile. Thankfully, I love my career. But anyway, so I'm going to go see this movie, and then just end up getting depressed because I can't drop everything and go exploring for a year, which ultimately would lead me to finding myself, which would then lead to a book contract and a ridiculous amount of money when Julia Roberts decides to star in the film based on my year long adventure, ensuring that I would never have to work again. BLA! This is not real life!

    4. 4

This movie looks so much more interesting than the book ever was! Oprah talked this book up, so of course I eventually got around to reading it. Major disappointment and a total bore!! The movie actually looks good, and in response to Boozette..you sound like a real winner…don't cast judgement on woman who actually have a job and get out of the house!

    5. 5

love the book, the film dsnt look a patch on it tho!

    6. 6

This horse faced Maniston wannabe, should take some acting classes!

    7. 7

HORRIBLE self indulgent book, will probably make a crap movie.

    8. 8

The book that this movie is based on was SO NOT what I would read, but I read this and I thought it was great (surprisingly).

Re: boozette – i think this looks good. i love julia roberts & i haven't read the book but i've heard of it & while it may not be practical for some, i think it is a good philosophy to some extent. just because your life sucks, don't push it on others. you're the one that needs to grow up. being pessimistic isn't the only way to see things.

    10. 10

i think it looks good. may have to check it out. plus is that mike o'malley i see? "lets go to moe with the results" anyone get the reference?

Nice, Boozette! Americans do need to grow up! Fewer romantics, more pragmatics, please! Grow up, people. Oh, and by the way, Julia Roberts is the worst actor on earth. Ugh.

    12. 12

sure, this can happen to most people. I will start right now, with my money, I will be back in…… by tomorrow. As for Boozette's comment, NO ONE will believe this. Unless you are delusional. How much would you need to run off and do that crap for a YEAR and leave all your responsibilities, bills, jobs, etc. Besides, when it is Julia Roberts, it is an endearing movie. a tear jerker, a must see. Jennifer Anniston does almost the same character and it gets ripped to shreds by you Mario.

    13. 13

I read the book and Julia Roberts is sooooooooo wrong for this role.

    14. 14

I never was interested in reading the book until i saw that preview!!! i'm going to go read the book.

If it were me going away for a year, I would want to bring my honey with me. But I guess the whole point of this movie is that she's trying to find herself…without a man. BTW, the movie looks great.

    16. 16

The movie looks super cheesy, but I know I'll get dragged to see it and will secretly like parts of it.

    17. 17

      Dear Ryan Adams-
Please stop lending your music to random movies. Remember Old School? Elizabethtown? They used your music too, and now this? I am a huge fan and love your music, but come on…

    18. 18

Personally - didnt' like the book - couldnt' finish it. I have other friends the love, it and others that agree with me.

    19. 19

      It looks like a man-hater!

    20. 20

      @boozette LOL

    21. 21

      LOL @ comment # 1. You're probably right.

    22. 22

I'll wait for Eat, Pray Queef to come out

    23. 23

Re: Missy1982 – She was given an advance from her book company to travel that year. I think Julia is an excellent choice. She kind of looks like the author. I can't WAIT to see it.

    24. 24

Love Julia! Cant wait to see it. Not everyone sees the negative part of life like boozette & pinkbubbles

    25. 25

Wow. Such negative, whiny people on this site. "Boozette", you sound toxic. Missy 1982, you're young…you're not supposed to have money and be able to take a year off. That's life.

I thought it looked good. And, I can relate. And yes cynics, life can be that amazing. With today's technology, you can be in the middle of Africa and still be in touch with your office.

Lighten up folks and allow a movie to let you forget about life for a few hours. Some of your REALLY need to.

    26. 26

      Javier!

    27. 27

Well this movie looks better than the damn book which was awful. It actually looks like she and James Franco have quite a bit of chemistry.

The Oprah crowd is going to eat this thing up and it will probably be huge overseas because of the locations.

Smart move for Julia. I'll probably go see it.

Valentine's Day made 110+ million at the box office, this will probably make close to that. I predict a good year for her. Oprah is going to pimp this movie like there is no tomorrow.

    28. 28

Re: boozette – Wow, you've got some issues. Get some help. You're life must suck.

    29. 29

      Eat, Pray, Queef lol

    30. 30

Pull your face even tighter and eat a sandwich please Julia. At least you don't have big fake boobs…but that'll be next I'm sure.

    31. 31

Looking forward to it… I don't have time for quiet reading… LOL! Maybe since everyone here is trashing it, I'll actually book a babysitter and go sit in a quiet theater alone… in peace… where, no doubt, I will enjoy it more. I'm ready to see Julia on the screen in a big way again. Val Day was a let down to say the least.

    32. 32

Oh for god sake people - lighten up. If you don't want to see the movie, don't see it. Movies are supposed to release us from the dismal realities of our lives. They are supposed to entertain us, let our imaginations fly and let us escape. If this movie doesn't seem like something that will do that, then by all means, don't go see it. Clash of the Titans is waiting for you, or maybe you're the type that thinks that Jersey Shore, The Real Housewives of…. and the Amazing race is a true depection of life.

      To each his own.

    33. 33

wow, so much negativity in some of the comments… and BOOZETTE, I can tell by your nickname what kind of a low life you are ;)
i agree the book and movie are unrealistic and julia is a bit overrated and outdated, yet it looks entertaining, looking forward to it!
Btw, I'm from Romania and our dream here is to be able to take like maybe a week off in the summer and go to the beach or the montain side, my dream is to visit America :D so if I'm not offended by the book being so self indulgent, neither should you

    34. 34

      Re: weho diva

Someone on here said she was only 30 when she did that. That's only three years older than me. And it makes sense that she got an advance to do it. I just hope they don't try and convey a "message" to the audience, like "get out of your life and have this big adventure!" when in reality only a very small minority of people have the financial means to do so.

    35. 35

Re: boozette – HERE HERE!! This is the most narcissistic piece of shit movie, starring the most narcissistic shit 'actor', based on a narcissistic shit book, written by an UTTERLY LAME narcissistic 'author'. All they have to do is invite Stephanie Meyer over, and they can all have a Lame-o Narcissfest, as they sip the blood of virgins and count their MOOONEY!! This bullshit isn't MEANINGFUL! "Wah, don't be so negative! You have issues!" Why? Because we're not MORONIC enough to drink this estrogen-laced Kool Aid? Good on ya, Boozette, if I could, I would shake your hand!

    36. 36

The movie is a chick flick obviously. Can't wait to see it on ppv. No way is my husband going to want to see this. But, then again he may surprise me. LOL.

    37. 37

I really loved the book. Movies aren't usually as good as the book, but I still want to see it, and no I'm not a middle aged fat woman who watches Oprah pretending this book was my life.

    38. 38

      Looks like uplifting entertainment!

    39. 39

Re: AdaSuccubus – Oh shut UP! Of course a STUPID immigrant would idealize the horrid Julia Roberts, ever since you saw her blow Richard Gere in "Pretty Woman". THE AMERICAN DREEEEAM!!! Fuck you for criticizing ANY American, but fuck you even MORE for defending Julia Roberts. She fucking SUCKS!! My GOD, your'e as bad a stereotype as fucking BORAT for that! Have a nice day.

    40. 40

Looks like a fun movie. I can't believe all the Julia haters on this site. She is fab!!!

    41. 41

      yuck , yuck and YUCK

    42. 42

Re: boozette – Well, I haven't seen the movie… but I'm 26, 5'6", 120 pounds. I have been to Europe- a few times. A couple of attractive men have fallen in love with me. I believe I have, very recently, discovered inner peace; it happened after I broke up with my bf of 4 years… oops, gtg- Oprah is on! FYL–Fuck Your Life, (not mine)!

    43. 43

Have faith. Have trust. Believe in the power of God. Let it happen to YOU.

    44. 44

Julia is a very good actress. I don't like her as a blonde though, it makes her look older. Please go back to your brunette hair, that's who you are and your smile is always irresistible.

    45. 45

I thought the book was a self indulgent, whiny pile of dog shit and should never have been published. Who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to make a movie out of it? Regardless, Julia's too old for the part and is really starting to look like she's had too much "work" done. Gross.

    46. 46

Why did they have to cast Julia Roberts in this role? Yuck. She's so full of herself and we're all tired of her damn cackle.

    47. 47

      Re: boozette – Your Beautiful…

    48. 48

      Yaawwwn.

    49. 49

Re: apricottonball – do urself a favor and save ur 15$

    50. 50

How does that fugly beeotch get to make out with Billy Crudup and James Franco? The movie looks typical of her movies and she will again be playing herself as she always does. Why does she always have to YELL her lines, so annoying. I have never seen an actress lose her looks so fast.

    51. 51

Looks like Julia Roberts is just acting like Julia Roberts instead of Elizabeth Gilbert. Why was she chosen to play this role? Have a feeling I'll be disappointed by the movie….

    52. 52

      Re: Missy1982
" This is not real life! "
      -
      -
Actually, it is real life for the woman who wrote the book. Ad according to our post, you only want to see movies that reflect your own experience - which is exactly what movies should be the opposite of… so we can escape from the reality of our lives.

    53. 53

      Looks kinda BORING

    54. 54

Re: anttnoni – just for your own knowledge an immigrant is someone who immigrates to another country, in this case this person is living in Romania and only hopes to come to the US. Its interesting to me when people like yourself attack people in the most ignorant of ways, you don't even insult well you just make yourself sound like an idiot

    55. 55

I hope Julia Roberts get run over by a truck. What a fucking loser.

    56. 56

      Can't stand Julia Roberts.

    57. 57

Re: good4good – Thank you for pointing that out! If they actually LIVE in Romania, THEIR American Dream is to shit in a toilet that FLUSHES! Which is exactly where this suckfest Julia Roberts movie belongs. as well. I will send a case of deodorant to the unfortunate village STAT, please give me the address. Never mind, we'll just air-drop it.

    58. 58

Re: Missy1982 – Honey I'm 23. I lived in India for the past 6 months and now I live in Vietnam. Get a TESL and teach English overseas. Save up 3 grand, quit your job, put your student loans on hold (yes you CAN do that, get a forbearance) and travel. You're young, get out there! The responsibilities and jobs aren't going away if you stay there, it'll just get heavier and heavier. So you choose - your career, or your life.

    59. 59

…and this was a shit book by the way. totally self-indulgent, poorly written and contrived. I bet half isn't even true. Her book publisher PAID her beforehand to go travel and write this book.
Ok here's a pile of money, go "find yourself" in these 3 countries and take notes while you're pretending to pray in a temple in India!
Once again, proves the dismal state of so-called literature nowadays.

    60. 60

Re: Missy1982 – You sound like you need to get away. The only excuse any one has to live a life they don't want are the ones we give ourselves. Get rid of your debt! If you want to pack up and leave, sell your belongings, cut back on groceries for awhile, get a roommate, and book your flight! Be creative! You don't need a silver spoon to get what you want.

    61. 61

The movie looks great! I know I'll enjoy it. I didn't LOVE the book, but I love Elizabeth Gilbert, which trumps it all. Can't wait!

    62. 62

Re: candycaynegirl – I didn't read the book but I've heard amazing things about her writing. What's so self-serving about coming up with an intelligent concept for a book and being paid to write about your own thoughts? This book was on the NY Times Best Seller list for a reason! I'm tired of Julie Roberts though, and Jennifer Aniston. Pass the torch already. I'm just putting that out there.

    63. 63

i had no idea they were making a movie for this. can't wait. in the process of reading the book.

    64. 64

Re: sixsixsix – haha touche :)

    65. 65

      looks really good!!! can't wait…

    66. 66

the book was great - Liz Gilbert - the author who had all these experiences i think is a very strong, funny, smart woman. i doubt the movie can do it justice as often is the case but i will definitely see it. Let's say it doesn't need to be glamorized by a Julia Roberts to be a wonderful, inspiring story.

    67. 67

this book irritated me, hopefully the movie skips over the blubbering crybaby on her bathroom floor for the first half of the story.

    68. 68

people have already said it better than i could, but it was a terrible book, and it will make a worse movie. and people will go see it and feel bad about their own lives for no fucking reason. blah.

    69. 69

Re: candycaynegirl – Yeah, I completely agree. It doesn't matter what age you are. I'm in my early thirties, and debt-ridden, but I saved up some cash, not a lot, put my stuff into storage and went travelling. Spent a few months around europe, went to australia for 3 months, now back in Europe and getting my citizenship sorted. I've been gone for 9 months now, and it's been wonderful. Travel isn't an impossible dream, you just need the drive..and the courage to uproot yourself and go for it.

Also, I agree that "Eat Pray Love" was full of shit, and read more like a middle-aged housewife's daydream of what travelling and going on a spiritual journey is like.

    70. 70

I'm only 19, so I'm not going to touch on the subject of "mid-life crisis". However, I will see this movie, because it seems like a feel-good movie with lots of beautiful sites and warm acting. Cosy, colorful and Julia Roberts! I like her and I think she's a great actress with a killer laughter :)

    71. 71

i just read this book the other week and loooooved it…but i dunno how well it will translate to film. it's really a marvelous read and i envy the writer for her experiences.

    72. 72

I've been wanting to read the book for a really long time. I always enjoy when books are made into movies. Sometimes it's a different way to actually see what the author describes. A lot of times, the two are very different which can be fun too.

    73. 73

looks all pc, soft focused, pathos filled rubbish - what a waste of Viola Davis' talent

    74. 74

looks pretty emotional. Like to rent it in a rainy day…

    75. 75

shitty book, but James Franco just might make this worth seeing.

    76. 76

wow, a woman goes on holiday, what a novel concept

    77. 77

THE MOST BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING BOOK I HAVE READ IN YEARS. SHAME, CAUSE I LIKE JULIA A LOT!

    78. RPORC says – reply to this

      78

To be totally honest, nobody cares about Julia Roberts anymore. Just lump her with the other aging boring actresses like JHO, Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Aniston. Julia is so desperate to revive her career but it's over already. His only hit movie is Valentine's Day for the last 10 years but not because of her but the other 100 pop stars in that crappy movie.

    79. 79

Re: weho diva – Well said! Totally agree with you.

    80. 80

The book seems self indulgent because it's about self-discovery. It was the author learning about herself and what she really wants in life. It's not self-indulgence, it's self-awareness.
