Majority Of College Kids Support Same-Sex Marriage

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayPolitik

belushicollegejb.jpg

According to a recent study by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA, 65% of college freshman support same-sex marriage, while only 59% of Americans 18-29 and 39% of the nation as a whole agree!

Evan Wolfson, director of advocacy group for same-sex marriage Freedom to Marry, says:

"Young people who know gay people, talk with them, and examine why marriage matters in the lives of real people move in support."

Hopefully some college freshmen in that 65% can grow up and take on roles which will help everyone in this country get equal rights!

You said it best, Vanessa Williams: the children ARE our future!!

  2. 2

    lol vanessa williams lulz

  3. 3

i can't wait til all these hate-filled old fucks die off so we can stop being embarrassed by their need to hate and gay people can be treated like human beings and given their civil rights.

  4. 4

Wait, didn't Whitney Houston say that?

  5. 5

Who cares? This is a gossip website, not the Huffington Post.

  6. 6

college kids tend to be more sensitive to diversity…
the classroom is an environment where others opinions and views need to be considered, which requires a lot of role taking.. this tends to increase their moral understanding as well :)

  7. 7

Fortunately, history has shown that most kids grow up and recognize how stupid they were when they were young. Hopefully, this will be the case again here.

  8. 8

all of our children, gay and straight are our future….

  9. 9

Those numbers are stellar! It will be nice to be given the same civil rights everyone else already has. Hopefully that day is coming soon.

  10. 10

Yeah wait til all these old fuckers that our paying the bills die off and the young fuckers have to start paying for all the bills the democrats are racking up! I can hardly wait!

  11. 11

Yes, P raz, I think it was Whitney, That being said, this is great to hear, I feel better about the open mindness of our furture

  12. 12

That's good to hear. I'm glad that college students are more open to diversity.

  13. 13

Of course the majority of college kids support gay marriage….they don't live in the real world. They live in an ultra-liberal microcosm of society. Weren't we all idealistic in college?

  14. 14

Re: Greenivy – This generation isn't as hell bent on hating gays and that bottom line gets shown in statistics like this. Twist it all you want, talk about how you love gay people but don't love the sin… Whatever, you were straight, and it's just not your business how consenting gay men and women live their lives. It's not your business when couples get divorced either, and you don't give them any crap(which I agree with), but you may want to carry that ideal over to gay people too.

  15. 15

Eh, I am glad younger kids are getting more understanding. Perhaps it is because there are less people being shoved the bible down their throat and made to hear the literal meaning from Leviticus at every opportunity. Yet these same people sit around watching football too, but I could swear the bible also contains a verse about not never touching the skin of a pig. I would think those same hypocrites would end up rotting in hell for that sin as well if God is going to Judge everyone like they think. Somehow I just don't think they are right though. I have a feeling loves everyone and maybe all these stupid people like Carrie Prejean and all the idiots ought to just shut the eff up and let everyone be happy.

Well, if gay marriage isn't legalized, the US will only be in the company of poor and Islamic nations within the next 20 years.

Oh, wait, we're already there. 40% don't even believe in evolution. LOL!

  17. 17

I can't wait till all the ASSHOLES die and we can run the COUNTRY THE WAY IT SHOULD BE RAN!!

  18. 18

LMAO, PERVy, who cares??? that's A PART of society. American society as a whole does NOT approve of homo-marriage and you know it.. And a person can EASILY change his mind as well :)

  19. 19

Re: perezito_is_an_asshole – I don't think the majority of Americans would call it homo marriage either. I'm not sure how many people refer to it in that way, but it's enraging for gay people to be labeled like that. Absolutely enraging, and it gets us fighting back, because when you use the word homo instead of gay, I can feel the hate coming through. I probably would have avoided 90% of the blogging I've ever done on gay marriage if it weren't for words like homo marriage, or WORSE that I've read.

I think the majority of people support gay marriage. I think that the problem is that the majority of VOTING people have not.

When my state voted on gay marriage I called my gay friend on the phone and asked him how he thought the vote was going and he said (and I quote): I'm so bad, right? I forgot to go.

This is the problem. People need to become more active.

  21. 21

Re: SammiDe – you wish someone would die? and then you call them assholes?
way to be a bigger person…aren't you a mother?

  22. 22

Re: perezito_is_an_asshole – "American society as a whole does NOT approve of homo-marriage and you know it.. " Homo marriage? The correct term is "gay marriage." If you don't agree with same sex marriage or civil union that is fine it is your own prerogative. There is no nead to use the term homo marriage. It is arrogant and extremely rude.

  23. 23

Because college kids are fcukin retards, our gov't indoctrinates us with what they want us to know. thats why home schooling is illegal in some states and there is such thing as alternative history taught only outside the classroom.

  24. 24

    *need sorry

  25. 25

The baby boomers (aka the "bigotry generation"…hey, I'd rather it weren't, but look at the facts.) are almost obsolete. I've always said that with gay marriage, its not a matter of "if," but "when." I'd rather it happened sooner rather than later, but if those old fogies think they can outlast us, they've got another thing coming. Keeping, hating, because we will dance on your grave (to techno music, wearing rainbow banana hammocks!)!

  26. 26

what are we in the dark ages release the mentality and let gay people have normal lives which includes no abuse includes marriage if they want it and includes having children if they want them … stop the rot!~ let the world move forwards and stop living in the 1800s

  27. 27

Well, the majority of college kids are getting EDUCATED. So.

  28. 28

    I DO NOT

  29. 29

    JOHN BELUSHI! :)

  30. 30

LOL yea.. Whitney Houston sweetie… But… good point!

  31. 31

duh… is this a surprise !?! Both of my children are in college. Both are in school away from home. One up North and the other down South. AND BOTH support Same-Sex marriage. Why, you might ask??? BECAUSE THEY ARE EDUCATED, INTELLIGENT, LOVING HUMAN BEINGS !!! And, also, they were raised in a home that was the same.

The children ARE our future !!

  32. 32

noo whitnet said that not Vanessa!!

  33. 33

The best thing about bigoted old people - they die soon.

  34. 34

how can we be the future if we can't even get into our classes because of budget cuts?

  35. 35

    THIS IS AN AMAZING STATISTIC

  36. 36

educated people do tend to make more sane decisions

  37. 37

As a college junior myself, I can say for sure that this is true. A VAST majority of my friends are so much more open-minded than their parents and grandparents. Lord I can't wait till WE are the ones running Congress and we can get EQUAL RIGHTS for ALL PEOPLE.
