Precious, the film starring Oscar-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe, debuted at number one on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart last week!

And the film took the number 3 spot on the rental chart — pretty impressive!

      I did not buy or rent Precious and I never intend to. It's not because the girl in it is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. It's because of the subject matter. I'm sure it would depress the hell out of me. I did, however, get to meet Gus Van Sant, James Cameron, and Jason Reitman. I got to see U2, Muse, and Coldplay as well. So I have a full life as it is. Thanks for your interest Mario. I have enough on my plate.

      Why are you being such a douche? You know damn well that he liked and recommended the movie. It doesn't change the fact that she is grossly overweight. For someone who struggles with his own weight, you'd think you'd be more supportive of a healthy lifestyle. Really sad if you're doing this for attention.

      If you listened to the whole show, Howard liked the movie. It's not about the movie, it's about this girl's morbid obesity. It will kill her if she doesn't lose the weight.

      I saw it and it was very good BUT very gross (with the whole sexual abuse/ stupidity thing)…I felt dirty after watching it.

      She's so fat you can't even tell what she looks like. She might be pretty under the 40 extra pounds of lard on her face. She looks like she stinks too. When people call her really serious weight problem the elephant in the room they aren't kidding. She's deadly fat. She's not a role model for anybody but that internet fat lady.

      This film is the worst kind of social porn, its only goal is to be as scandalous and miserable as it gets. And none of us really knows whether this Gabourey girl really can act, this is the only film she's starred in so far, for all we know she perhaps wasn't acting at all.

      I bought it, it was good, but, not as good as I thought it would be. Very depressing subject matter. I do think Gabourey did an amazing job, and Mo'nique was great too.

      A couple things…
      1. Howard Stern liked the movie, I heard the discussion, he merely stated that she is un-healthy, that if she doesn't loose weight, she will not be able to enjoy her success.
      2. Why is it okay to comment on how fat Jessica Simpson is now, and how she needs to loose weight, but its not okay to comment on this young woman? Or why is it okay to make fun of Kirstie Alley, but not Gabourey? A bit of a double standard.

      I agree that beauty is not marked by size, but in this country we have an epidemic in morbid obesity, I think it sends the wrong message to glorify it, when it's not a matter of fat or skinny, it's a matter of healthy, and being over 300 lbs is just not healthy.

      Yes I did rent Precious. It is not for the faint at heart that is for sure. I would also say that if you are living with past trauma, it may trigger a lot of emotional turmoil from the past. So it may be better to stay in the here and now and avoid it AT ALL COST. Definately not for anyone with these issues.

      As for this ladies weight issues. She would be best to consider participating in an eating disorder program or group. Overeaters anonymous may be something she could access. Or perhaps Dr. Drew should start an eating disorder program which would bring some focus to this terrible problem that is killing people. That would be fantastic.

      My boyfriend and I saw this movie and were TERRIBLY disappointed. It was depressing. Hard to watch. And there is really no triumphant moment. Don't waste your money. Rent "Good Hair" with Chris Rock instead.

      It is not a "classic" - it is not a movie you'd see again and again - Sidibe did not give an Oscar worthy performance. (So she CRIED in ONE scene!) Her skin is too dark - her face too fleshy to read subtle emotion. Monique won because she raised her hairy armpits, screamed,showed her zits without make-up - SO WHAT?! She showed up to shoot "as is". SO WHAT! The whole hoopla over this movie is racially motivated and stinks to high heaven.

Her next role is a miniscule role in an indie film as a bully (again not much $) and then as a supporting character on a new Showtime series (as a student with an attitude) which doesn't pay much $. More than half of those earnings go to agents, publicists, taxes and lawyers. She isn't endorsing any products (probably due to her morbid obesity?) so that lucrative aspect of celebrity is lost on her.
      So the whole "she made more than any of you will see in your lifetime" is a joke. Most actors & actresses make less than you think. Only big names like Angelina, Sandra, Julia, etc. make millions. I'm sure she already spent her money on fast food anyway.

      Take WHAT, Howard Stern? He spoke the truth about her being severly obese & in danger healthwise. It was NEVER said by either Howard or Robin that she was bad in the movie nor is she a bad actress. If you listened to the show, you would know the CORRECT story; not just what's been in tabloid hooks. Did they make jokes about her size? Absolutely. Is it a humorous entretainment talk show? Yes. But if anyone actually listens to the show, they know how health conscience Howard (& especially Robin) are. They stated the obvious that if this young woman doesn't start taking her health seriously, she's in trouble (think Nell Carter). And truth be told, there are not that many acting roles for someone of that size. It's not just his opinion~~ it's a fact! If that hurts her mom, her, or her family, that's unfortunate, but the truth hurts. In a world where Kate Winslet is considered "overweight" in Hollywood, think about this poor girl's choices….

      I agree with Howard Stern, she is morbidly obese and her health is at risk. I watched the movie and thought her performance was amazing, don't movie's come with insurance and I know that some actors such as Lindsay Lohan due to past behaviour and involvment with drugs have had trouble getting insured this young lady may face that problem due to her weight and the health risks associated with it. No one is saying she has to be hollywood thin but I think everyone would be happy if she lost at least a 100 pounds.
