Awful. Georgia Teen Allowed To Bring Boyfriend To Prom Kicked Out By Parents.

This is so awful.
We were thrilled to learn yesterday that a Georgia High School had allowed a homosexual student, Derrick Martin, to bring his boyfriend to the Prom.
However, the poor kid's parents were reportedly so upset about the media attention regarding their son's homosexuality that they have kicked Derrick out of his house.
We have no idea how any parent could do something so unbelievably cruel to his or her own child, especially one who is brave enough to stand up for his rights.
Martin is currently staying with his friends, and is somehow keeping his chin up by focusing on his gratitude to those who have passed the teen words of praise and encouragement.
Hopefully his parents will realize what a terrible error in judgment they have made and understand how courageous their son is.
You're in our thoughts, Derrick! You're doing the right thing!

Re: MOMMIE DEAREST – YOU ARE A BAD, BAD PERSON. I HOPE YOU DIE A PAINFUL DEATH LADY
Re: Derek_Walsh – I'm from CANADA and we even make fun of them… they are so ridiculous sometimes. This would NEVER happen up here.
Those parents should be so ashamed of themselves!
I have a 1 year old, andThe loveI have for him is overwhelming.
If our Son turns out to be gay, that is te least of our worries! I can't imagine not being there for him , to love and support him.
As long as his a good ,kind hearted person in this world, thats all I couldask for as a mother.
If he were to say to us when hes older that he is gay, my husband and I would tell him were proud of him and that we could care less that hes gay. Andhopefully they way we are raising him, he would never feel ashamed to tell us that, and would know that we could care less.
I just hope that young man has a good support system with friends and some family! Shame on any parent who could do hat to your own child!
All of you morons bashing AMERICA like it's the problem- need to get off your FREE, fat asses out to a thirld world country and see what REAL problems are really about!!! How about living in a shack small enough to be a shed with 6-7 kids with no insurance, not enough food, no electricity or running water. All we do over here is bitch about nothing ever being good enough. The kid can get a job and choose to live his life how he wants and that is because he lives in this wonderful country to begin with.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Maybe he should have thought about what might happen before he decided to make a spectacle about himself over nothing. That being said, his parents are in the wrong.
Re: Stacibee – NO NO GEORGIA IS ACTUALLY REALLY COOL. THEY JUST DON'T LIKE BLACK PEOPLE. WELL SOUTHERN BLACK PEOPLE ANYWAY. NOBODY SEEMS TO TO LIKE THE SOUTHS BLACK PEOPLE. COULDN'T IMAGINE WHY…..
Re: alemeh2 – it is quite embarassing!
Re: rockstar93 – you are a GREAT mom!
hmm i agrre with judgment but he could never feel a woman i actually smile at this g ay boy hehee
Re: jeremyandkristy – I think the posters point was that America being such a wonderful country is BACKWARS in a LOT of ways. I am American, proud to be American, but this kind of bullshit, not just with Constance, but with Derrick's parents make us look like a bunch of fucking idiots to the rest of the word and rightly so! It's time we WAKE up and be TOLERANT and ACCEPTING of others, who has sex with who IS BETWEEN THOSE TWO PEOPLE and NO ONE else. It's so fucking simple to understand yet so many find it so hard? I'm sure Derrick being a good kid and a straight A student will do just fine, he is a smart, brave guy, the point was, America is very DUMB at times. Peace Out.
may be he should start dating cute girls wink
Re: superawesomedave – can u say their 1st names? I can find them if I have the parents names…you rock by the way!
Re: superawesomedave – OMG seriously Dave I think I love u!
Re: georgyporgy – Make a spectacle of himself? This isn't 1920 you IDIOT people like you are so fucking STUPID! So you really believe the shit you spew? This guy was STANDING UP FOR HIMSELF AND YOU ARE JUST AS BAD AS THE PARENTS GO EAT SOME CYANIDE
That's horrible! Stay strong Derrick! You have a lot of people rooting for you!
Just called that # (cud care less that it's almost midnite there) and the lady said it was a wrong # Dave do you k now either the mom or dad's 1st name?
First and foremost if he is under 18 it is against the law to abandon a child. In FACT it is a felony punishable with a fine and jail time. I hope the police step in. Also they are responsible for his actions still, if he happens to end up in trouble or has an accident they will be held finance responsible. IT IS A FACT.
WOW, IT MEANS HIS PARENTS WERE CLOSET BIGGOTS EVER SINCE HE CAME OUT TO THEM. THIS WAS JUST AN EXCUSE TO FINALLY KICK HIM OUT. SINCE WHEN SHOULD THEY CARE IF THEIR SON IS OUT AND PROUD?
uh pretty easy, idiot. my parents kicked me out for not believing in "god".
Re: queenladypink – he just turned 18
Is this the fake-Perez posting again? Who still uses the word "homosexual" anymore? Seems like the only ones using that term–at least on this side of the pond–are folks with an anti-gay agenda. How about just referring to him as "gay"?
Re: whatafarce – WOW, REALLY? THAT'S SAD. DID THEY EVER GIVE U AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THEY KICKED YOU AND YOUR SIBLINGS OUT? DID THEY EVER APOLOGIZE? CALL TO WONDER WHY YOU GUYS DON'T VISIT? DO YOU EVER SAY ANYTHING BACK?
Being European does not mean that you are more accepting of gays. Second, you sound like a person that loves to judge, no wonder you wrote such an ignorant comment. PS: many countries in Europe do not have gay marriage and have huge issues with people being gay. YOU JUST REALLY PISS ME OFF!!!
Re: alemeh2 – Way to stereotype, people who feel/think/act like this boy's parents live everywhere
Re: aliealie – and Derek Walsh yes us Americans really care about you laughing at us, we so can't sleep wondering if some stinky bad toothed tea drinking queen/king worshiper doesn't like us. I mean we so wanted to break away from you hence the American Revolt. And Ms. Canada I assume your French, because I have PLENTY of friends from Alberta, and B.C. and we laugh at you French Can. (your not worth finishing my sente) didn't your gov. go on strike last year? Oh and by the way if America falls you all won't be far behind, it's called the domino effect. (insert middle finger) I must now try to sleep bwuahahahhahahhahaha Napoleon much? Hitler much? You two bore me now buh bye. FYI i'm also Norwegian so I guess I didn't get the memo on the laughing. Du er både patetisk og tror nok både på Napoleons side. Kort som er og stinky.
some people arent meat to be parents. poor kid.
Re: billyyousostupidbilly – Re if he's 18 they can kick him out. Yeah but in 2010 you can't earn a living at 18. Other than porn or things like that, a regular job that can pay enough is a 1/million shot. It wasn't like that back in the day. Ashame when parents don't realize this change in society. You need college or several years of solid work experience before you can earn enough to pay for rent/car/food. This kid won't get too much press because of this, if he gets any cash now it will last 6 months, his parents are making a mistake. He might get into porn but these headlines aren't going to make him much of a star there either.
Southern white trash republican parents. They don't know any better and the hate they are showing their son is disgusting. Karma or Jesus will get these disgusting Christo/fascists and Evil-gelicals and I can't wait.
Re: jeremyandkristy – Stop justifying this kind of disgusting behavior by his white trash republican southern bigoted parents. STFU .
Re: knowitall –
What is your deal with the white trash southern republican shit? Get off of it. You're annoying. Don't you have anything else better to do then sit at home and write negative things about people?
There is probably more to this story then what is being reported, and if it is true, then that's really sad that his parents can't be more accepting. Will definitely be praying for this kid tonight!
You can come live with us, Derrick! One roommate just left–rent's free for the first month!
Re: arkityp – I totally believe in God but I think that's just as bad! I'm sorry
Re: knowitall – wow u said it! Amen!
Re: jaaazy – wow there are some really amazing posters here! hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's UNBELIEVABLE!! Derricks parents should be ashamed of themselves. I pray that he has a strong support group amongst his friends. God bless him.
EQUALITY FOR ALL!!!
Jesus wouldn't have thrown him out. His parents should be ashamed of the horrific examples of Christians they are.
I would NEVER do this to my child.
"Awful. Georgia Teen Allowed To Bring Boyfriend To Prom Kicked Out By Parents."
-
-
What is awful is how you have worded the headline.
You make it sound as if it is awful that he teen is able to bring his boyfriend to the prom. (And the rest of the wording isn't so hot, either.)
Will you please hire a literate person who knows grammar, spelling, syntax, etc.?
Surely you can afford to do that with all of the advertising money you are paid.
Do you care at all about quality or credibility?
Re: Ash4Vols! – It is what it is. Behind every antigay act you can trace it to southern, republicans christo'fascists. You know your family.
Hey Perez, why not start up & sponsor a PayPal account for this kid so that people can donate $$$ to him.
Re: lili808 – Could not agree more with you. Thankfully it seems this young man knows his own self worth.
Surely as a parent, if your child is healthy, safe and happy, what more could you wish for? I only wish I had had the courage to come out at an early age instead of spending too many years living a lie.
All the best to you Derrick
Re: alemeh2 – Bullocks! There are people all over the world that are ignorant. I live in Europe and there are also ignorant people here. You are just as ignorant for the comment.
I hope his parents are picketted and harrassed every day for the next year! Disgusting… he should kick them out for being assholes!!! Shame on them
As a parent, I don't understand how his parents could do what they did. I have let my kids know that that would never happen here. Hopefully he has the support he's going to need.
Don't let the boy fool you!!!!!!!! This is the SECOND time HE has moved out…. You are only hearing his side…dig for the truth…BLECKLEY CO. is a GREAT place to raise your kids and i am PROUD to live here!!!!!!
I'm completly appalled. How dare they do that to their own child? He stood up for himself in a part of the country that is so homophobic, he probably risked his life or at the very least his personal safety by coming out. If I had a kid that brave, I'd be the proudest parent ever. Derrick, keep you head held high, you did the right thing. The deadbeat scumbag parents should have to pay for him to have a place to live and food until he's 18 at least, he's still their responsibility and their genes made him gay in the first place dammit!
Oh my god! That is so heartbreaking! If he was my son, I'd be nothing but supportive and strong for him through this whole shitstorm… how can you love and raise your little boy only to ruthlessly kick him to the streets when these sort of issues arise! Shameful. This kid is a part of gay rights history. I hope that Derrick has some wonderful friends to stay with and help him out right now.. sending good thoughts his way!
To Derrick: You are an amazing, strong, beautiful young man and your heart is in the right path. Keep going, you´ll be fine!!
That is the sickest thing I have heard in a long time. I am the very proud mom of four and everyday I look at my children and hope no matter who they become that they find happiness. That's all good parents want is for their child to be a whole person. These people are sick. Keep on being happy bb somewhere out there a mother of four has all the respect in the world for you.
*SIGH* What is the world coming to? I sincerely hope his parents will come back to center in time and mend the wound this has caused. He is there son and that will always be, whether gay, straight, or a poke-dot-purple people eater. Ok, maybe the PDP people eater might take some getting used to, but the media circus will eventually fade away and their son will be still be their son when the dust settles. Parents are just like kids, they have flaws, and make mistakes in life and each of the children they have should be cherished and loved despite their flaws as well. I hope their family will have a chance to heal for Derrick and his parent's sake, because well they are family and if anyone here has not had problems with their family despite a media circus or a bunch of people firing off on a website, well congratulations, you are androids LOL
I can understand the frustration with the media attention but that's it…frustration. When you're a parent you suck it up and support your child - damn, I'd be proud of him - that I raised a young man that only at age 16 is confident enough in his own individuality to do this. I really do hope they realize that and are able to tell him how proud they are of him. This is when he needs their love the most.
this is just awful - at least the poor kid has people he can rely on to support him through this. it's a shame that these people aren't his parents. there should be some sort of local goverment support for kids who are victims of homophobia so that this kind of thing doesn't happen.
I live in this town. I have just been informed that a protest is planned against the decision to allow Derrick to go to prom. I am proud of Derrick.
OMG!
What is tha matter with parents like that??
Do they not get that what they are doing is totally disgusting!!
One more thing, to all of those wondering why the parents cannot be charged for negligence. He’s 17 - here the law is different on that. He can legally move out, and they are responsible for him until he is 18 years of age even if he chose to leave, but supposedly the parents cannot kick him out. The only way they can kick a child out before age 18 is if they become pregnant or married without the parents consent or knowledge. That’s if they haven't changed the rule again. Georgia is just crazy, I'll say it, I'm not afraid. Not only that, You are not a legal consenting adult in the eyes of Georgia law until 18 years of age, BUT at 17 you commit a crime… In the eyes of the law you are an adult and will be charged and tried as one. So yea, go figure.
This town has a 2 or 3 day thing every year where the BIble is read on the Courthouse steps. I hope the ACLU comes in and tears the County a new one.
********His father is the math teacher at the school!!!!!!!!!!!************
Here is a direct quote from Raymond Martin father of Derrick
" I was raised in South Georgia and joined the military right out of high school. I met my wife; a fantastic individual from Virginia, while stationed in Arizona. I am the father of a bright young man who is attending Bleckley County High School"
So….I guess being "bright" is not enough for this asshole
This is terrible. What loving parents /sarcasm. I can understand how the father can be a little upset (not having his son bringing home the smokin' hot babes), but how does a mother cut off a son from his shelter? Where is he staying? How will his financial needs be met? How will he eat? And it's not like he's the one who "ran away", they pushed him out! Disgusting! All because they can't handle the fact that their son wants to be happy.
wow … the kid is still in high school so that makes him like younger than 18/ adult age … is there a law for child abandonment???? what the hell, how can you hate him for being Gay and also kick him out … sad sad sad, seriously, parents must be loco
I can't even find the words to explain how sickened I am by this after I read it.
Ya'll have no right to diss his parents. For one ya'll have no idea about the situation and his parents are wonderful people. For you to judge people you dont even know is beyond wrong. Derrick Martin is seeking attention. Our Principle Dr. Master's was trying to please everyone when she gave him the okay and two boys going to prom together has happened at our school before. There was no issue. And now because Derrick Martin took it all out of hand the safety of prom is now bieng questioned. This is ridiculous. I dont believe it is wrong for him to take another man to prom but the way this has been handled is beyond how it should have been handled. Do not judge his parents when you dont know who they are. Mr. Martin is one of the most respectable math teachers at Bleckley County high school. Oh and Guess what. I'm taking a man to prom. Hell write a story about that if you really are fighting for equal rights because if he gets a story so should everyone else at that school. taking a man to prom has happened before at Bleckley County High and this has gotten all out of hand!!
An 18-year-old is considered an adult in nearly every state in the union. 18 year olds get kicked out of the house all the time like a bird who is let go to explore the world and learn from the experience. This boy is not a baby anymore. There is no child neglect or child abandonment. Because this boy is no longer a child. Most high school kids graduate at 17 years of age. He is just an old high school senior student.
AWWWW! :[
BCHS student, when has there been a same sex couple at prom as official dates at BCHS? I know 2 years ago 2 girls wanted to do the walk through together and the school wouldn't allow them to.
BCHS student, when has there been a same sex couple as official dates at BCHS. I know 2 years ago 2 girls wanted to do the walk through together and were told no.
Re: BCHS Student! – "Wonderful, Respectful people don't kick their child out FOR ANY REASON so no one cares about your opinion because it's STUPID Derrick did nothing wrong IN FACT after the school gave him the ok, it was in the news and that's it, the parents kicking him out started all the drama again. In my eyes, THEY are the ones who were looking for attention.
Nothing short of severe alcohol or drug use should cause a parent to turn their back on their child. And I only include self-destructive behavior that continues because sometimes that is a hallway they have to travel on their own to get over it. Being LGBT or anything less is NOT a reason to change that relationship. I hope this young man stays proud of who he is and is able to find someone to help him through this difficult time. What bastards…
Re: piratecookie – amen
Awhile back two guys went together. And girls go together too. And i think i would know considering i live here! Oh and guess what? Nobody cares about YOUR opnion. Right now i think you're being extrememly ignorant to judge people you know nothing about. I never said i had anyting against him taking another man to prom. I do however have a problem with how people are talking about his parents when they know nothing about them No one knows the situation and what went on like we do at our school. And i think i would know alot more considering I as well as the students that have commented on the subject than the ignorant people judging people they do not know. Alot of things are not right about this subject but none of it would have happened if he wouldn't have made a huge deal about it. And now people are threatening him which is wrong and very unsafe. I believe he should be able to take who he wants to prom and it does not effect other people. but at the same time you should not bash his parents when you do not know them personally.
they must be catholic, or assholes. same shit
Re: boyzen berries – DAMN calm ur shit down, your an american, we dont give a fuck about what other countries think about us, remember
SAY WHAT! his parents are awful, they should be punished for abandoning their son - wtf. seriously though, they need to stop being so concerned with how other people percieve them because their son is gay. it's not about THEM, they should stop being selfish and be there for their son instead of worrying what reputation as parents they may have. they'd get a whole lot more respect if they stood by their son, and people would see them as good parents if they did that. so they're getting the opposite reaction they want, because now people will see them as ignorant assholes.
Here is the strategy for getting instant fame, and getting money and free stuff from strangers. Argue about a cause that is controversial and act like you are the victim. Contact the media about your grueling plight. Have them sensationalize it because they see your PAIN. Make it believable that you are the victim. It really works. The next thing you know, you are getting all this FREE MONEY, FREE THINGS and FREE SERVICES from strangers. It is a quick way to get famous and rich by getting complete strangers to be on your side and support you and love you. It works.
Re: MOMMIE DEAREST – There is something really wrong with you. You must have some sick scat/pedo fettish to even let that enter your mind. And a weird interest in boys underwear.
So vile and creepy! ICK!
Hi i graduated from bleckley in 2008 and me & my best friend (both girls) attempted to go together for prom and they said "absolutley not! we do not want to look like we support homosexuality" And also two guy friends of my, also not gay, wanted to go together the same year and they were also told no. i want to know who the has went together of the same sex? NO ONE. And my little brother is still in school and he hates mr. martin.
Re: !!whuh – You have got to be kidding. Obviously, you have no children or should, I hope you have no children.
Re: knowitall –
oh my gosh. you are just hilarious! seriously, you should be a comedian. you're jokes are so original. too bad you don't know my family. everyone in my family believes in gay marriage or anything of that nature. aww but i bet you didn't think that republicans could believe in such things huh? bless your little heart. someone must have had their feelings hurt.
How sad!! But, on the bright side, he does have wonderful friends that are taking him in and he's not living on the streets somewhere.
Oh no!…..poor guy
