Remember The Time John Cusack Did 'Shrooms At The Super Bowl?

Course you do because if you've been following John Cusack on his PR run for Hot Tub Time Machine, you've heard him mention it a dozen times!

Here's the story: 1986 Super Bowl, Patriots versus Bears. A young Cusack was enjoying his rise to fame with movies like Say Anything and Sixteen Candles. He was also high as a kite, having done mushrooms before the game started.

In the past week, he has told this story to Vanity Fair, The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly and Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, all in response to the same question: What were the 80s like for you?

By the time he got the Craig's gig, he started to get really technical, claiming:

"The eighties are not worth revisiting … unless you're probably on psilocybin or some sort of drugs."

That's a huge word for the hallucinogen in shrooms!

Oh John. Silly, forgotten, drug-lovin John.

Perez you know Say Anything is from 1989 right? So how could he enjoy his rise to fame with that movie if the year was 1986?
Google is your friend, use it!

  7. 7

I love John Cusack. And Say Anything is from '89, so, he wasn't enjoying his rise to fame from Say Anything in '86, unless he had that HT time machine back then. I think Better Off Dead was one of his first lead roles. It is the best teen movie from the 1980s. I recommend it to everybody. It's hilarious and John is totally adorable in it.
Re: Nostradamus – Yea, shrooms at the Superbowl doesn't sound fun. Seems like a waste of shrooms and sanity too. All the cheering, hollering and screaming would sound like a blizzard.

    And an amazing actor.
    An amazing man in general.

  19. 19

It was the 80's!! I worked at a health club in the 80's and saw a guy snort coke before his workout.

  20. 20

i'm so glad he did that. i would loove to smoke a bowl with john cusack, he kicks ass.

  21. 21

There is nothing silly or forgotten about John Cusack…he's still awesome.

  22. 22

*sigh* oh perez… it's just magic mushrooms… no big. not like it's black tar heroin. lol

  23. 23

okay. So what's the story here exactly?

  24. 24

wish i cud get paid 4 telling stories about being on shrooms

  25. 25

Forgotten? Fuckin' ass. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Being John Malkovich.

  26. 26

Just saw Hot Tub Time Machine last night and enjoyed it!
I was also partying during the 80's and had a blast!

  27. 27

I love this guy, and I never miss one of his movies. I don't know why you're making such a big deal about what he did in the 80's, Perez, but I suppose you had to have something to say. Lots of people did drugs–not that it makes it right, but it's what he's doing now that counts in my book.

Re: Nostradamus – lol that's exactly what i was gonna say.
Shrooms at the Superbowl sounds terrifying!!! no way! shrooms should only be enjoyed in the woods or on top of a mountain. no screaming crowds please and thanks.

  29. 29

I love him. Always have. Always will. 'Shrooms or no 'shrooms.

  30. 30

Oh John. Silly, forgotten, drug-lovin John??? Out of touch much??

John Cusack is great. One of the best actors of all time. Shrooms at the superbowl sound good by me.

John is a good guy unlike that creep Alec Baldwin who verbally abused his daughter by saying "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being…." Never let him live that down.

Re: cards81 – Actually, the Super Bowl itself was in '86. They're called the '85 Bears because the regular season was in the fall of 1985. Way to pay attention.

  32. 32

I knew i loved that guy ..shrooms and football game . Sounds like HELLA fun to me !!!
