Roger Ebert's Insight On Rosemary's Baby Remake

We don't know why he would bother messing with a classic, but director Michael Bay is producing a remake of Roman Polanski's 1968 thriller, Rosemary's Baby!!!!
The remake is being produced by the Transformers director's production company, Platinum Dunes, along with a number of other horror remakes.
And film critic/everyone's favorite Twitter user Roger Ebert tweeted his opinion on the remake on Tuesday!
Says Ebert: "Michael Bay is remaking "Rosemary's Baby. O….kay…."
Our sentiments exactly!

Maybe Miley Cyrus can play Rosemary ?
" Our sentiments exactly! " OUR SENTIMENTS ????!!! YOU DONT HAVE SENTIMENTS ! YOU'RE JUST A SELF LOATHING QUEEN PIGGY !
Re: ShoeWhore –
Or Megan Fox?
Seriously, why mess with a CLASSIC? There are NO young women in Hollywood who even come close to the grace of Mia Farrow. I HATE the thought of one of my favorite films going to hell in a hand basket!
Here's a thought:
If Hollywood can no longer create original ideas and needs to produce remakes, why not focus on movies that weren't so great the first time around and make them better?
A movie such as "Rosemary's Baby" should be left alone as it is a classic in terms of story, direction, actors/performances, overall atmosphere of the film.
No one - much less Michael Bay - is going to improve on (one of) Polanski's masterwork(s).
Megan Fox can play the baby. This is the Devil's way of telling you that you have too much money.
I first watched this when I was 13 and I thought it was so boring but I watched it again a few months ago and I realized I had missed so many subtle inuendos and I now think it is genius. I just don't know that the director of Transformers has the skill to pull this off.
One of my favorite movies-LEAVE IT ALONE!
Remake will be horrible.
Re: Lear – I totally agree with you.
Rosemary's Baby is one of my favourites and is so stylistically perfect that it just can't be re-made and come out better.
Now, if somebody wants to remake the film for the purpose of remaking any ole film and making $, then it'd better be tongue-in-cheek and totally gratuitous devil-fucking orgies, with cameo appearances by the Pope, who gets skull-fucked to death or something, and maybe a giant wood-chipper in Central Park which gets fed a constant stream of shitty, but contemporary, so-called actresses, feet first, with lots and lots of blood and guts and everything like that … and then maybe it'd be kind of neat to see.
But, that's just my opinion.
WHY!!! I hate anything Michael Bay touches!! Leave that great film ALONE!! Maybe Nicole Kidman could have pulled off this part 10 to 20 years ago! I can't think of anyone who can come close to Mia Farrow's performance. Maybe Carrie or Kate Mulligan, but that's stretching a bit.
Well the new generation definitely isn't going to rewatch old movies. If no one ever remakes them, the story will be forgotten. I'm 18, I love classics, but none of my friends has ever even heard of Marlon Brando unless I call him the Godfather.. and even then, most of them likely haven't seen the movie because it was a few decades ago. Making a remake will not ruin the old version. In fact, it won't do anything to it! It'll still be there. Get over it.
Why, Michael Bay? Why?!
let sleeping devil babies lie…
Michael Bay! Please stop! Just because you have millions and millions dollars doesn't mean that you can re-make everything! Everything the he ever produced has been mediocre at best! It's an insult to the people that actually work hard on these original movies and you dumb it down and call it yours! I agree with Roger Ebert!
roger ebert IS rosemary's baby
I heard Michael Bay and thought this movie is immediately f**ked.
RETARDS!
Micheal Bay is a douchebag. He is the reason horror is in the shitty state it is in mainstream wise. All these remakes with the exception of VERY VERY VERY few are just terrible. And totes unnecessary. It's nice that to make it in hollywood all you have to do is profit off of respectable movies and franchises already established with legacies by fucking it up with terrible characters, terrible storylines and of course, cause it is Micheal Bay and Platinum Dunes, OVERBEARING CGI special effects! Kudos you douche. Another movie ruined. And tbh, the original wasn't that great for me either. But it still is legend.
I just love Roger Ebert.
We need his intellectual wit and ingenious insight and taste in cinema back again.
All the other critics out there right now are distasteful hacks with 2nd grade intellect and humor. They should be writing for the tabloids.
Can Hollywood ever just be creative enough that they don't have to rely on good old remakes? Horrible and very unSTYLISH.

Awesome. Anything Michael Bay is attached to is crap - like the remake of Friday the 13th.
I honestly don't think that the movie ought to be made over. However, the only way to make sure that the remake isn't a total mess I can reduce to two words…Carey Mulligan. I have been saying it over and over again, maybe I ought to start a petition. I just feel that she has the look, the acting chops to pull it off and not make it look hokey.
I'm not entirely against a Rosemary's Baby remake. I am, however, against a Rosemary's Baby remake helmed by Michael Bay. That's just stupid.
Guess it's what you do when you have no new ideas. The original looks great. When they try to remake The Exorcist, just watch people lambaste them.
Lame idea. Don't mess with a classic.
Noooo!
This is not a way to "revive" your reputation.
he is digging himself deeper after transformers and than probably slashing this.
classics are classics. perfect as they are. and should remain as is!
the only non-woody film that mia succeeded in. nooooo remake. please.
Michael Bay? LOL!
Michael Bay…. of all people :S
Re: ShoeWhore – I second that emotion!
please god no. this is such a classic .. ebert is right leave it alone.
WTF!!!!!!!!!! Blasphemy!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT. THE FUCK..BUDDY DUST? MICHAEL SHOWBOAT BAY?? WAS IT NOT ENOUGH THAT HE THRASHED THE CLASSIC HORROR TEXAS CHAINSAW? NOW HE ACTUALLY THINKS HE CAN DO ROSEMARY'S BABY JUSTICE? SRSLY.. . .. WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT THIS DOOD'S EGO? HE MUST KNOW HOW TO SUCK HIS OWN DICK, I SWEAR..
AND LIKE HELL HE'S GOING TO TRY AND REPLACE MIA FARROW AND THE ORIG AND GOD OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENT FILM JOHN CASSAVETTES!?!?!!?!???!?!?!?!
i hope gena rowlands goes after him with satan by HER side..
i hate these straight out of LA directors.
how the fuck does m.bay even get the rights to this film? ain't nothing sacred anymore? the baby will be born cgi-exploding out of rosemary, lol
This offically makes Michael Bay the Antichrist of cinema.
Remakng Hitchcock's "The Birds" is reason enough to burn in hell. Remaking "The Birds" and "Rosemary's Baby" can only be the work of Satan, himself.
hahahahahahaha omg can you imagine how awful this is going to be? I'm sure there will be lots of people exploding.. and other dumb shit. Why can't anyone be original anymore??
Re: stellagranos – that is a pretty good idea… i like it.
Oh wow…So THAT'S who Roman polanski is.
All Hollywood can do these days is remakes. Really boring…..
What an idiotic idea to remake this classic. I suppose Heidi Montag will play Rosemary.
April Fools? Maybe? Hopefully? I don't think any other movie has creeped me out more. The combination of the building, the weirdness of everybody around Rosemary, the directing, the cinematography. If there's no originality left in this art-form that I love so much, I'll have to accept it, but just don't remake the good ones that don't need it. Remake Ishtar or something! Rosemary's Baby is a CLASSIC. In no time, they'll be remaking Cary Grant films for George Clooney.
So bothersome!!! The original was SO perfectly done. I don't see how any new film can capture the essence of the haunting upper west side in the 60s/70s. I hope it's not as bad as the OMEN remake. UGH!!
PS - are there no good writers out there anymore? I just saw Ben Stiller and Noah Baumbach on Charlie Rose last night and Stiller was saying that he liked Baumbach's films b/c they were real stories about real people - not outrageous over the top character driven. There were so many great movies made in the 70s. Today it's just formula crap.
and poorly done remakes of classics
The girl from 'An Education' should play Rosemary. She looks like the original. Or Mia somebody from Alice, because of the haircut. But I prefer the first.
I just got around to watch it last year. I was disappointed, I expected more of an Exorcist type scare. A remake could be good.
Michelle Williams would be a PERFECT Rosemary!
WTF!?!?! GOOD GOD WTF!?!?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO UGH ANOTHER MOVIE I LOVE IS GONNA BE TAINTED! UGH!!!!!
this is such a terrible idea. the original is perfect and is really the only one you need to see.
having said that, roman polanski is a child rapist and need to go to jail. making a good movie doesn't excuse you from drugging and sodomizing a child.
Why? Why? Why? Why?
This is a classic.. A CLASSIC people….why in the world would they try and remake this? Is there nothing sacred anymore? Is everything about the all might dollar? Michael Bay should be ashamed of himself..doesn't he have enough money?
I for one will not see this and no one I know will either..There is no way that they will be able to capture the magnificence of this amazing movie…Fuck Michael Bay!! He's a freak!
i know the symbolisms behind the movie, but i never actually watched the movie. i probably would watch this remake…because otherwise, when will i ever watch the original. im more interested in the mind control behind it all…
why do the studios keep giving michael bay the opportunity to wreck more films?
