Alex McCord is best known for her years on the Real Housewives of New York series, but after today, she'll probably be known as the housewife who drank while pregnant!
You read that right! Those who ever called her and her husband, Simon van Kempen's, parenting skills into question will have a ball reading Alex's new book, Little Kids Big City: Tales From A Real House In New York City.
Within the pages, Alex talks about having a nanny come twice a week so they can go out (though inside sources say it's much more often than that), taking her newborn to a New York soiree when he was only 48 hours old and sipping champagne before going into labor!
If that doesn't scream fantastic parenting, we don't know what does!

I'M IN NO WAY ADVOCATING DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WHILE PREGNANT, but european women have been known to drink wine while pregnant. They don't get drunk, they enjoy a glass periodically. Alex and her husband lead a very European lifestyle and I'm in no way surprised by this revelation of hers.

When I was pregnant (just over a year ago). The nurses told my husband and I in prenatal classes that sometimes they'll tell you to go home and have a hot bath and a glass (small) of wine….they said it's no different then having morphine (and other drugs) pumped into you for the pain…but, I still wouldn't - seems wrong!

This is no big deal. Pregnant women are ALLOWED to ship champagne, white wine, etc. during the final trimester. It does not hurt the baby as long as you do not drink too much,

I've been told time and time again, that it is okay to have a glass of wine occasionally while pregnant. Of course, it is a major faux pas to do it in public, because many people believe (as your post suggests) that this is strictly forbidden, even though doctors tell you it is okay. You'd be hard-pressed to find a mother-to-be drinking openly, but I'd say many do enjoy this every now and then at home. So what? Who cares?
Aside from not knowing trannys could deliver naturally, lots of us have a few drinks during pregnancy…
And if her only pregnancy drinking was at the onset of labor, this is probably no big deal, as long as the doc knew.
Everyone gets drugs during labor for the most part anyway.

Having a drink, especially wine will not hurt the baby. My doctor actually told me to have a glass before coming to the hospital. Its not a big deal perez. And all parents know this. I am not saying lets all get drunk everynight, but a glass here and there will not hurt!!!

Actually having alcohol that soon before delivery is fine. It's in the early stages of development (months 0-7) where you shouldn't drink alcohol because it might affect development. But right before labor, the baby is already done baking. A little alcohol is fine, in fact sometimes it can help enduce labor if it's taking too long. So calm down, it's not a big deal to have a little alcohol that late in the pregnancy.
seriously, many doctors will tell you to have a cocktail when you are in labor, or in early labor to slow it down and relax the body, so let's give alex a break.
Having a glass of wine or champagne is actually healthy. EXCESS is the problem. Europeans believe in the health properties of the wine(grapes). If she drank everyday then we have a problem. Trying to make a big deal where there is none.

Yep, was about to say what most have said here.. Sipping a little wine or champagne while pregnant will not harm the child. Perez, another shining example of how you will slam anyone with very little information. It is obvioous anyone who is against Jill, a la Bethenny and Alex, you will diss. For many, many years before it became an issues, women smoked and drakn throughout their pregnancy. Some had children with illnesses others had normal, healthy children. If you over do it, yes, risk of fetal alcohol syndrome. But not much, no problem.. Doctors will tell you a sip of wine here and there will not harm the fetus. Get something better. Alex and Simon may be social climbers, but they have always remained respectful, kind and stayed out of the fray.. In other words, better people than you Perez.. Definitely (as many other posters have mentioned) not a big deal to have a glass of wine, sparkling or otherwise, after the first trimester is up. In America, as another poster mentioned, it's often not consumed publicly as it seems to be against public sentiment to do so. In Europe it's very different, and you can observe women enjoying a protein-rich beer or a glass of wine publicly throughout pregnancy. Perez, I've seen you post several times before being critical of women having a glass of wine/beer late in pregnancy, I would be happy to give you the number of my Dartmouth educated M.D. if you would like it from a medical professional…it's time to stop criticizing this behaviour, I've seen many FAR worse examples of parenting in celebrities!

Welp, I ain't no doctor and I ain't no mother, but I am a consumer of lots of Discovery Health - and to my surprise medical experts across the board agree that pregnant women can drink alcohol in increeeeedible moderation ( I know I know, I don't know how I feel about this either). But the facts remain, that Alex probably didn't do anything outside of the medical guidelines given to thousands of pregnant women across the country. Yeah, drink up preggo!
