So sad.

Former WCW and WWE wrestler and openly gay Chris Kanyon is believed to have committed suicide after his body was found on Saturday in his New York apartment.

Kanyon overdosed on medication and had been having depression problems for years.

Kanyon admitted he was gay after leaving the WWE in 2004 thinking that perhaps his homosexuality could be used in a wrestling angle, but he wasn't hired by any of the wrestling organizations.

He supposedly told a friend as recently as last Monday that he was thinking about committing suicide and other friends have said he has made similar statements before.

Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.

That is so sad. I believe he suffered from bi-polar disorder. My thoughts are with his family and those close to him.

    4. 4

That's sad. What's up with the list of dead wrestlers through the years?
Hardly any of them are able to reach 60 years of age before they die.

      RIP Mortis/

      who's better than kanyon???

    6. 6

Very sad. Because he said it before but never acted on it, they should have taken it seriously. He was crying out for help not attention.

    7. 7

Oh no, I can't believe he actually did it. I remember not too long ago he was on Howard Stern talking about his depression and thinking about committing suicide. This is very sad to hear. RIP =[

So sad! I knew Chris and he truly was a great guy! My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends!

I've never heard of this man before, but this is another sad, sad case. It is so disgusting that one day he's talented, well liked, etc.. and then the next day, "oh, I'm gay" and then he's disliked & unable to get a job?! OUTRAGEOUS! This is just one example of why we need to ban together in this country & teach TOLERANCE to our children, friends, & family. It should not matter what your race is, your sexual preferance, etc… WE ALL NEED TO START LIVING AS ONE! I know this is a pipe dream, but it's something I wish for daily!! And depression from intolerance is something that cannot be overlooked…

My husband and I stopped watching professional wrestling about 5 years ago because I couldn't handle everyone dying so young. We LOVED Kanyon - WHO BETTER?? There should be some kind of support group for ex-wrestlers, so many seem to have drug issues or mental problems (ala Chris Benoit) that could and should be addressed before it's too late.

    14. 14

So he told a friend he was thinking of killing himself and his friend didn't get him help or try to sway into getting help? WTF?

      Re: JRodFilms
Not true, Perez has posted about the death of other non-gay wrestlers.

    16. 16

How sad and what a waste. I wonder if steroids had anything to do with his mental problems!

    17. 17

Used to watch Kanyon back in the day, seeing as I was a pre-teenager who was obsessed with watching professional wrestling.

It's a sport that claims many, many lives, but it's still shocking to hear that Kanyon killed himself, especially if you take the context of the situation in account. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin.

      Rest in peace, good sir.

    18. 18

Re: JRodFilms – omg a was just saying the same thing if he wasnt gay perez wouldnt of thought about this at all!

    19. 19

Kanyon wasn't gay. He admitted that it was a work. Dumbfuck.

"…is believed to have committed suicide after his body was found on Saturday…"

Not before his body was found? Great English usage.

what's sad about it? IF people are unhappy they should be encouraged to check out. Why live another 20-40 years? You end up dead anyway. If you're miserable, be brave and GO! Good for him! More resources for the other 6.5 billion and counting

Kaylzx, he temporarily “admitted” that being gay was a work for publicity only to THEN admit that he really was gay. This site reports a lot of false and exaggerated bs but this time the report of him being gay was a fact.

    23. 23

      SAD !!!! :-(

    24. 24

What a hottie and what a waste. The irony is that wrestling is riddled with homosexuality. I have several friends who are wrestlers and I've seen it first hand.

    25. 25

I met Kanyon back in 05 after he left the WCW and dated him for about 3 months. He had a long struggle with his disorder and was on many medications after a pretty intense surgery on his shoulder… He reached out to many people in the community while he lived here in Atlanta but he never could recover from his disease and depression… He was a great and gentle person and through everything… I am sad to see that he is no longer with us. I will always remember the good days with you Kanyon! Brett

Re: BOINROSWELL – I really feel your loss and I know how you feel. Just hold on to your love for him and the good memories and keep in mind that his earthly pain is gone. Bless you. ( A friend)

One of the side effects for prescription psych meds is…DEPRESSION and SUICIDAL IDEATION (even in those who hadn't had those thoughts before). God, I hate this. He could have gotten a total drug detox (all legal and non) and gone on an alternative non-drug health regime with psychiatrists like Daniel Amen, Gabriel Cousens or David Burns…someone who believes in using drugs as a LAST alternative, not first, and if you do need to be on psych meds, tries to get you off them at some point instead of saying you have to be on them forever (because they have side effects like depression). How sad. Condolences to his family and friends.
