Constance Speaks! She And Differently-Abled Students Sent To Fake Prom!
How absolutely heart wrenching.
We reported yesterday that Constance McMillen, the brave young woman from Mississippi who just wanted to bring her girlfriend to prom, was sent to a fake dance by parents while the rest of her class celebrated at a secret location the same night.
Constance has spoken out about the hateful display of bigotry, and we once again are humbled by her grace and perserverence!
"They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them. The one that I went to had seven people there, and everyone went to the other one I wasn’t invited to. It hurts my feelings."
Perhaps even more disgusting, however, is that the organizers not only segregated Constance, but sent two differently-abled students to the fake prom, as well!
Unbelievable. We hope that everyone responsible are all very proud of themselves, singling out and taking advantage of kids with learning disabilities. We're sure that there's a whole lot of karma coming right back at them soon.
Constance, however, is a true class act and focused on the positive so her classmates could have a nice night!
"They had the time of their lives. That's the one good thing that come out of this, [these kids] didn't have to worry about people making fun of them [at their prom]."
We commend her for making the best out of an awful situation. We can only imagine what a painful experience this whole ordeal must have been.
We know it's hard to see now, Constance, but this will only make you a stronger and better person at the end of the day.
What these people have done to not only you, but to your fellow students who have enough challenges, only reinforces the reality that they're the lowest, most miserable kind of scum there is, and we won't spend another second focusing on that kind of negativity.
Just keep that chin up and smile wide, and don't lose an ounce of that integrity! Living a happy and fulfilling life is the best kind of revenge you can get!

It IS surprising that they sent the retarded kids to the fake location too. I'd bet if there were children of color at the school they would have been sent to the fake location too. Apparently the official school prom is the one Constance and the rest of the small group attended…the "other" prom was held at a private country club and apparently EVERYONE else went to the private prom…NICE. What complete assholes!! As the mom of a special needs child the whole thing just saddens me. I hope they had a good time and that they can have peace in knowing that there ARE accepting people and communities out there, whatever your difference.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT!!! I work with disabled or differently abled (its cool) adults and I call them retards. I love them and have nothing but respect for them. To send disabled and a gay student to a fake prom is disgusting and I hope that the parents of those "abled" and not gay students someday feel the hatred that they are inflicting on others. The shameful part is that those other kids are going to always think that it is ok to treat others that are different from them in the same manner. So sad.
