High School Student Sent Home For Wearing Lady GaGa Shirt!

bgctlg231.jpg

How ridiculous is this???

15-year-old Cole Goforth was sent home from his high school in White House, Tennessee, on Monday for wearing a GaGalupe shirt that says, "I Heart Lady Gay Gay"!!!!!

Are you kidding us???

Greenbrier High School is claiming the defense that a shirt with the word "gay" on it could potentially make students feel "uncomfortable."

"I just think my sexuality isn't widely accepted around here, so of course they are going to single me out," said Cole.

"I think they are singling him out… They've made statements that if he wore this in California, he'd fit in just fine," Cole's mom, Julie Gordon added.

No kidding!

Apparently other students are allowed to wear "religious shirts and rebel flag shirts" to school, so why can't Cole wear his Lady Gay Gay tee????

Bullshit!

Little Monsters, this is unacceptable!

      LITTLE MONSTERS REVOLT!!!!!!!!!

    2. 102

I could see how it could be offensive to someone, especially if they don't know it's a GaGa shirt. School isn't really the place to wear something like that and I think posting it on here will make a bigger deal out of it then there needs to be.

    3. 103

"Apparently other students are allowed to wear "religious shirts and rebel flag shirts"

      OH, i see.

    4. 104

Re: Some Monster – Yet she wants you all to be her Little Monsters.
      That sounds submissive to me.

He should have pulled a P. Sawyer and took off his shirt in the middle of the hallway.

      Re: La Garse
What I find disturbing about this story and similiar like it, is that Mario & certain news (used loosely) outlets try to make gay martyrs out of these CHILDREN!

It's great that a kid has enough confidence to want to stand up for himself, but at what cost?

WE don't have to go back and live in these backwards towns, WE don't have to deal with the harrassement from his peers, WE don't have to live under death threats…Ultimately, WE are not the ones to die at the hands of some confused/bigoted redneck!!!!

    9. 109

I am fucking outraged! this is so stupid!

    10. 110

Most school do not alow t-shirts with any printed messages on them. Especially rock related. Get over yourself!

    11. 111

All public schools have dress codes…and the school has the right to use their discretion. I do not feel it's necessary to wear a shirt pronouncing that I'm straight straight, so gay gay isn't cool either. I support equal rights, but this kid wore this shirt just to start something and make a scene: there is no other reason why he would wear it. He knew what would happen before he even put it on. School is for learning, not expressing your sexuality. Sorry Perez, you're wrong on this one.

    12. 112

Oh Jesus Christ, just let him wear the fxcking shirt.

    13. 113

      LOL

    14. 114

Of course they sent him home. I would have too if I was an administrator! Why does that student feel the need to even wear that shirt? It has nothing to do with him being rejected by the school- it is flat out inappropriate and school is not the place to advertise your sexuality. Well at least it has not been– but I guess now it is.

    15. 115

Well look - here in Switzerland kids at school are not allowed to wear red shirts with white cross - which is our flag as you maybe know - cause the kids from other countries feel offended…

I just don't get what people are thinking - and our kids should not be offended by all the other flags on shirts in their own country???

    16. 116

Also it is not about being open minded. You can go be open minded at the mall, or at Target. School is for learning! Does anyone know that anymore?

    17. 117

He KNEW that shirt would be controversial, he should have never worn it to school.

    18. 118

AMEN!im soo glad somebody else besides me said something about greenbrier NOT BEING IN WHITE HOUSE!!lol I live in white house…greenbrier is like 10 min away…btw kudos cole!!I died laughing when I heard this story cause hes my best friends ex…hes gon be famous ha

    19. 119

its funny to see this up here, my brother just left that school behind. hes gay and they are very unsupportive in that small small minded town. when will it become appearant to leave everyones sexuality off the table it doesnt matter who sleeps with whom or what sex. the only thing that matters is how you treat other people in your life and mere strangers.

    20. 120

I thought the other shirt's they say the kids wear aren't allowed at our schools?

    21. 121

HEY PEREZ, maybe you need to do some research before you assume that folks in TN waltz around in school wearing flags, praise Jesus & death to gays clothing. The clothing is not acceptable in school because the kid is A KID & to learn to be an adult they need things called boundaries, not some moron saying I got your back, you go boy. We were not allowed to wear rebel flags & closer to my senior year we were no longer allowed to wear WWJD shirts, hell the obys even had to stop wearing sagging pants. There are as many, if not more, people in this state who are not racists homophobes. Rules have changed so much & have turned into BS, I can't smoke in public but I can sue your ass for making my kid follow a rule that may keep him from getting the ever living shit beat out of him. 9 times out of 10 you will not get your way in life & this is one of those times… Boy needs to put on his big girl panties & wake up to this thing called "life" I want to drive faster than the speed limits that are posted, I have my truck under control & I'm in no danger to anyone… should I tell the cop that I don't need the ticket because it will damage "who I am" Not everyone has to agree with your views on being gay I find your statement about rebel flags & religious shirts being ok in school offensive. No, I take that back, your are just some stupid fairy who sits behind a computer making fun of others all day, you are worse than the hate you protest.

    22. 122

      Re: me0101 – You're correct.

    23. 123

I go to that same school. Here's how it really is with that Cole kid: He's one of those people that thinks they are way too hot and better than everyone else, but in reality he's about 4 feet tall and looks like a drag queen on meth. (And the caked-on make-up does not help his cause) He talks mad shit about everyone but takes offense to anything that he hears about himself. No one really cares that he's gay, it's just that he's such an asshole about it. My name is Jamin Welch

    24. 124

ridiculous!! i had to deal w/kids wearing christian HATE shirts, which is sooo offensive as a christian! this is nothing- leave him alone!

    25. 125

i went to school in Greenbrier and its true kids get to wear the rebel flag. one girl cut out the butt of her jeans and patched it with a rebel flag and she didnt get sent home. i think its bogus. im friends with his mom, Julie. i dont know cole that well but ive met him and he is such a sweet kid.

    26. 126

      Re: jaminwelch – lmao

    27. 127

Re: Freek – This ain't that serious, the other kids aren't suppose to being wearing the religious or rebel flag shirts either. And I would rather die before I'd move to Canada, your country is not all that great.

    28. 128

I'm sure this school has a dress code. Yes, public schools have them too… I remember in high school I had to change when I wore a "Save a horse, ride a cowboy" t-shirt (I'm female, so noone can say it's because my school administration was 'homophobic') But maybe it's because my school was anti-cowboy?? Get real. Girls also had to change whenever shirts were too low cut and even spaghetti strap tanktops weren't allowed. So just shut up and stop making a big deal out of something that ISN'T ONE!!

    29. 129

Re: Poindexter-X – Yea my my brother and my cousin live in Nashville and they have to wear a uniform to school.

    30. 130

The school is right get over it Perez at the very least because of dress codes private or public all schools have them there are certain things you wear to school and if you don't like it then go get home school.

    31. 131

im really glad i live in norway, cause we dont have any dresscodes and we can wear what we want =) unless its underwear-as-outerwear or something like that..

    32. 132

WHAT?! That is total bullshit!!!! Wtf is wrong with the world?! Lady Gaga tweeted about this, tho…I hope she kicks up a stink for this boy's rights. and Kudos to him for wearing it even in such a biggoted school!

    33. 133

Re: MarilynChristine – While I agree with you that school is for learning, it is not about learning how to do logarithmic functions and calculate the molar mass of compounds. School is for learning how to socialize and function in society. The reason ignorance is so common is because of how kids are taught in the classroom, both by teachers and their peers.
Boy, I feel bad for those rich, Christian kids that will go off the college and university and hear the cold hard truth about ignorance and how it has hurt so many innocent people.

    34. 134

How come I have a feeling LillyJean ("school isn't the place to flaunt you sexuality") that you wouldn't have a problem with someone sporting a shirt that pronounced them as openly straight?? If they ban this type of shirt they need to ban shirts that advocate for heterosexuality as well as those having specific religious or political affiliations. In fact, if you're going to go that far, you might as well take away freedom of expression all together and switch to uniforms. This is a giant step backward for our country. Step in 2010 people!

    35. 135

i wish it didn't say Gay Gay on it it stopped me from buying that shirt

    36. 136

That just goes to show how homophobic the majority of the United States is. It's pathetic and sad. I get judged all the time for wearing my Lady Gaga shirts and I get shit not just because they're attacking Gaga as an artist, but the fact that she is bi-sexual and supports the LGBT community. It's horrible. People need a fucking wake up call, because times have changed, people should be allowed to love whoever the fuck they want to.

    37. 137

Re: buck – why it isn't okay to be gay? you are stupid! It doesn't matter if you are gay or hetero.

    38. 138

Re: Horndog – wow. how immature and closed minded can you be to say something like that? times are changing, there is nothing wrong with being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered. so get over yourself, you homophob.

    41. 141

Re: Debnhar – Thank you! Perez is giving White House a bad rep!

    42. 142

this shit is whack! Fuck, I know where they cell some lady gay gay shirts down here in new york, Im fucking buying one and wearing it to my jh school to see if someone will give me shit like that! damn….let some bitch teacher say some thing about it! I'll be like "Fuck u! I hape ur kids become gay!" This is really pissing me off! My mom is gay and I love it! But she wont let me go to the gay parade because Im 12….do u think that is too young? but thats not the point….people are unfair to gay people and it needs to stop!

    43. 143

perez you just fucking love anything to do with gays and lady shit shit. wanker.

    44. 144

Re: SatanInHighHeels – I was born and raised in the south too (and live in a small town about fifteen miles from the White House, Tennessee of this *cough* report), and I resent your stereotypical comments lumping all southerners into the "redneck" profile. My daughter is a senior in high school and one of her best friends is a flaming gay guy who also happens to be one of the most popular people in school. Other guys do not beat up on him…and except for a few country boys, I wouldn't consider anyone close to being a redneck.

I don't know what part of the south you grew up in, but things are different in our area.

    45. 145

      If it just said I

    46. 146

I can totally see why they wouldn't want that worn in school…I think most schools would have done the same thing. Message t-shirts don't have a place in school.

Hey i love gays but i dont think this is that big of a deal. I mean im pretty sure the school just had a strict dress code. and its not like he got suspended or anything.

    49. 149

This is the year 2010! What is wrong with people? Everyone should be able to express who they are, their sexuality,….whatever it may be! We are all individuals and we need to start accepting and respecting each other. I can't believe things like this still happen in 2010.

    50. 150

      Re: Debnhar

yeah, it's always I have a gay friend or I know someone who knows a gay…blah, blah, blah…I bet you met a black person once too! Get over yourself!

Face it! The south is full of a bunch of slack-jawed, bible-thumping, sheep lovin', inbred rednecks! Those stereotypes just happen to be true!

    51. 151

      Dear School:

Maybe you want to brush up on your First Amendment. A student has the right to wear a t-shirt that has the potential to make others "uncomfortable," so long as it's not overly distracting, lewd, or profane. And this shirt contains a political message of LGBT support, so it receives GREATER First Amendment protection.

We have a lot of rights, but no one has the right not to be offended.

    52. 152

Re: LillyJean – You're a disgusting, idiotic person. Have fun with that.

    53. 153

Hmmm…..Greenbrier High School…is in GREENBRIER….not White House. Let's get ALL of the story straight.

    57. 157

Oh whatever, maybe the school's dress code should be looked at. I don't see why anyone needs to wear a shirt saying their sexual orientation anyway. Also, it's a little pathetic that now if anyone gets in trouble in school they whine to the media. Lady Gaga is just luring in "her gays" with false words and merchandise.

    58. 158

I bet that teacher wears a "F_uck my hairy hole" shirt every night. F_ucking Homophobe.

    59. 159

Re: XHollywoodXfame – GOOD POINT kids wear the iron cross but they cant wear this!

    60. 160

thats so awful. poor kid. schools should be ashamed for singling people out like that

    61. 161

More power to the school. Most schools have dress codes. Also, high school isn't the place to make a political statement, save it for college. A school should be free of distractions.

    62. 162

Wowww! ok I wore my I

    63. 163

Ugh, what the hell are these teachers trying to hide? It's 2010 for christs sake! Everyone living kid on this damn earth knows how to have sex and numerous drugs! It's too late to change this generation now, so just suck it up & Live with it & get with the motherfuckin program.

WAKE UP YOU MOTHERFUCKERS LOL WOW. WHAT A GREAT WORLD IT WOULD BE IF EVERYONE AGREED WITH YOU AND IF EVERYONE WAS THE SAME, RIGHT? THAT WAY WE CAN ALL BE ACCEPTED AND LIKE A HAPPY FAMILY LOL. ANYONE WHO IS AGAINST GAYS BECAUSE A FEW BULLSHIT PAGES SAYS IT'S WRONG, OR ANY OTHER REASON, NEEDS TO OFF THEMSELVES.

JUST LOL. YOU'RE ALL LOW QUALITY HUMAN BEINGS. YOU PISS AND MOAN ABOUT THIS AWFUL WORLD, YET YOU'RE THE ONE FUCKING IT UP. GET THE FUCK OUT.

    68. 168

Hey, let "it" wear it to school. Then, when "it" gets the living shit beat out of "it", you can complain about THAT too.

    69. 169

Re: gagagoer – fuck your stupid fucking cross bullshit. at least you used that piece of junk in a decent way, I guess.

    70. 170

Omg! Do they seriously have rules for which clothes you are allowed to wear in America? I am from Norway, and nobody would care if you wore a shirt like that. No wonder people hear judge Americans for being stupid, closeminded morons!

    71. 171

Ok I have read several of the comments left concerning the young man that was sent home for the Lady GaGa shirt and I have to set a couple of things straight. I live in the community that he is from and first it's Greenbrier, TN not White House, second the young man in question had been asked the week prior not to wear the shirt again because the students in the school are NOT allowed to wear religious shirts rebel flag shirts any thing with foul language or racial slurs or any other attire that may be deemed offensive to anyone in the student body. They were in fact trying to keep this boy from any other conflict. Yes they do allow the principals of the school to determine if some clothing that may not be listed in the student handbook under the dress code is acceptable. They did not feel that this shirt was appropriate for school attire. I agree with the school on this.

Re: jaminwelch – Thank you for telling it how it is with this kid. I have a child in this school as well, and have seen Cole, so I know what is going on too. The only incidents that I know about are ones that he as provoked. Seems that this kid and his parents need to take some responsibility for their actions as well. I would have never let one of my kids out of the house for school in that shirt. I dont care what he does as long as I dont have to keep explaining it to my 9 yr old because she hears stuff on the bus.

    73. 173

Okay, honestly. I graduated from THAT EXACT high school two years ago.
1 - It is not in White House, TN. - It is in Greenbrier, TN - which is a little, one-red-light town.
2 - People at that school are singled out because of what they wear. If you are not into athletics, especially football, you are considered an outcast. (The principal is the former football coach).
I was singled out because I was short - even though a lot of people did like me and I did have a substantial amount of friends.
I think that as long as the shirt was not causing a fight or distraction, which, from what I heard - it wasn't - then he should have been allowed to wear it. It was not offending anybody.
I think the solution to this problem would be to niche the dress code or implement uniforms - not an intermediate that initiation biases that this little town has had for MANY MANY MANY years.

    74. 174

Re: jaminwelch – Oh, you could totally be right. lol Still, I don't believe that he should have been sent home if he just wore that shirt and caused no problems - but that may totally not be the case.

    75. 175

Re: ChelseyE – Jamin Welch, you are right now that I have learned some more about him.

    76. 176

I am a liberal rainbow waving democrat but even I know this isn't proper attire for school. Each year students and parents are informed of the appropriate dress codes and someone always want to get political. I have news for you. Children are sent to school to get an education not promote a personal agenda. Was he hoping to get on the local evening news? I couldn't wear a tobacco or JD tshirt when I went to public school. It's not a big deal, just wear it off campus on his own time. This is not freedom of speech and teachers don't make enough to go through this crap.

    77. 177

      Re: LillyJean
It IS okay to be flmaingly gay, as it is okay to be flamingly religious or anything else anyone chooses to be. The kids in school here (In Manchester, Tennessee, to be exact. The fabulous Bonnaroo town -_- ) wear rebel flags and there's not a second thought about it. In fact, I saw a kid wear a shirt that had a rebel flag flying from the white house and beneath it was the phrase "I have a dream…" A teacher made a comment on how clever the shirt was and laughed about it. Most people would be surprised at how ridiculously behind in times that Tennessee is. Someone being sent home for a gay shirt is just a tip of the disgusting iceburg of Tennessee's ways.
