Bristol Palin has something to say about teen pregnancy: It's okay to do as long as you aren't poor.
That's the message we got from her latest PSA in support of the Candie's Foundation, which tries to education and prevent teen pregnancy.
A little late for Bristol to be getting this message, but thank goodness she is privileged!

It must be difficult for Bristol to constantly be publicly atoning for what came naturally. Yes, the brain should have been in gear, but at some point she needs to be able to let go, forgive herself and be truly ok with herself, because a child is a rare gift, and she needs to be allowed to feel lucky to have him, regardless.
I hope she knows that. I know many women who were never able to have kids, because when they did everything 'right', the pregnancies just didn't happen because they were over 35. Bristol should start to feel that everything is ok in her world, and in spite of how it happened, it happened, but that everything is ok in her world.

I have to disagree with you on your constant attacks on Bristol Palin and this idea that she can't be a spokesperson for teen pregnancy prevention because she had a child as a teen.
I also had a child in my late teens and I can tell you that we are far more equipped to speak out to young people about this issue than anyone else.

The facts about teen pregnancy are that it hits the lower socioeconomic group in way bigger numbers. If you've seen 16 and pregnant, that's usually how it goes with a teen parent, not like her life. The PSA is meant to say that teen pregnancy isn't glamourous and despite Bristol's teen pregnancy appearing "fun" or "easy" or whatever, it's not. She had it easier not ONLY because she came from a little money, but because she ALSO had a supportive family (in the emotional sense). The PSA is meant to say she had it "easy", but if your family isn't supportive and you don't have financial help, your teen pregnancy might not be easy. That's all. Please, it was not meant to slam the poor….give me a break, Perez.

I wish PSAs would show all the benefits of adoption. Putting a baby up for adoption is one of the biggest sacrifices, and most heroic actions a woman can make. The baby will be raised by a loving couple who have waited and dreamed for years to have a child to love.

I am actually a huge liberal and think Sarah Palin is a major punishment the US has received but i thought this ad was great! With Bristol Palin and Jamie Lynn Spears pregnant as well as MTV's 16 and pregnant and Teen Mom, young girls may think they will be cool if they have a baby or that they can become famous. Teen pregnancy should NOT be glamorized and I thought this ad made that point. I thought for sure she was going to throw in a line about abstinence but thankfully she didn't.

BUT - I don't see anything wrong with this ad at all. She's spot on. Most young girls aren't going to have the support system and financial freedom that she has if they get pg. They'll be poverty stricken with very few options in life. So she's right. Before you bone, PAUSE and think. Put on the condom or don't do it. I know she doesn't outright push the idea of BC, but she's been on record in the past saying that abstinence education doesn't work.

Her message didn't have that meaning at all, unless people spin it that way. Bristol is saying that she has been very lucky, that she has had a lot of support from her family and hasn't had to go through a lot of the issues that many other teen mothers have to go to. She is saying that people shouldn't just look at her and see that her life isn't so horrible, but in reality there are a lot of people who aren't as fortunate as her. She is demonstrating the life that an average teen parent goes to, that being a teen parent is not glamourous.
People need to stop putting her down for trying to spread a very important message out there. Yes, she had sex and got pregnant at a young age, but that doesn't mean that she wants that for everyone else, she is trying to teach people that they should wait to have sex. There is nothing wrong with that, abstaining from sex is a decision that some people make, and it is also one that is not right for everyone. She is just trying to raise awareness that teen pregnancy does happen and that the only 100% way to stop it is by abstaining from sex.

I'm with PH on this. It totally comes off as 'oh, *I'm* rich, so teen pregnancy is fine for me … you're not rich and famous, so your life will suck if you get pregnant as a teenager.' I got pregnant as a teen - although I was out of high school. I wasn't rich or famous, I DID have family support and the support of the baby daddy, and that's what made all the difference. I went to college, got into grad school, got my degrees and together we all made it work. Would I recommend it to other teenagers? No. But honestly, it was the best thing that happened to me.
