Malcom contributed so much to pop culture. Most people have no idea.

His "Madame Butterfly" still evokes the best of the 80's for me…

One of the saddest parts of this is that he died today, on Vivienne Westwoods birthday. They have a child together and got their start together…:(

Glad to see others here are aware of his contributions to music exteneded beyond management.

Malcom was a great talent. Samples from his tracks were integral to hits for Mariah and Eminem.

The fact of the matter is, Malcolm was not the king or a father of punk, but he was a pioneer of punk however. That honor would go to Iggy Pop. What happened was, Malcolm was in NYC and had seen The Ramones and Blondie performing at CBGB'S, who were the first two punk bands in history, and not the Sex Pistols and The Clash as some people actually think. The fact is the British punks came after. Malcolm came up with the concept of doing a Punk version of a "backstreet boys", picking and choosing a band, and the rest is history.

Malcolm went on to Manage Bow wow wow, and was affilated with Adam Ant and even Boy George.

Malcolm scored a huge hip hop-rap-scratch song in the early days of that genre, his "Buffalo Gals" was right up there with Blondie's #1 Mega Smash "RAPTURE" they were both defining moments of early Hip Hop and the 1980's as a whole. He later went on to fuse Opera with a hint of Hip Hop Dance with the brilliant song "Madame Butterfly".

Malcolm is also credit with starting the whole Vogue dance movement, he scored 2 huge Billboard dance hits with "Deep in Vogue" and "Waltz Darling", 2 years before Madonna stole the whole concept for herself, Malcolm had already had a #1 dance single with "Deep in Vogue", long before her "Vogue" single.

And good riddance. That's what Sid Vicious would say anyway.

But for real, rest in peace, mastermind.

Judging by this small, insulting obituary you know nothing about him and his contributions to music. Let me give you a little insight, had Madonna not ripped off Mclarens "Deep in Vogue" her career would have been over by the end of the 80s. Fuck, is your head always up your ass? RIP

Re: COCO_CHANEL – he briefly managed the NEW YORK DOLLS and the pistols borrowed/stole heavily from their sound. The Ramones & Blondie both inspired by THE NEW YORK DOLLS ! Listen and learn the blueprint for punk rock is all over their first album & that came out in 1973 !!! check it out.

This made me really sad. I was a major league punker in my formative years, still love the Sex Pistols, and, even though I understand that in a lot of ways Malcom McLaren was a dick, I'm still bummed that he died this young, and in such a creepy way. (My dad died of cancer when I was a kid and it is really awful…)
