Jim Carrey And Ewan McGregor's Gay-Themed Movie Postponed…. Indefinitely!

Obnoxious.

I Love You Phillip Morris, which stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as gay lovers in prison, has had a hard time nailing a release date and has been pushed back a few times.

Unfortunately, we're irritated to report that the the film's future is not looking too bright. Its release, which was last scheduled for April 30th, has been postponed indefinitely!

The film premiered at Sundance and generated a lot of buzz due to its blatant homolicious content. It initially failed to find a buyer, until it was acquired by independent distributor Consolidated Pictures Group.

We sincerely hope there's a reasonable explanation as to why a movie with significant attention in the media and an A-list cast could be shelved, other than the fact that it's gay-themed.

Of course, that's probably the reality of it, which we think is truly disappointing.

What do U think?? Do U think that the movie pulled from theaters because of its content??

Of course .. no one wants to see a homo Jim Carrey movie … jeeeeeeez

  2. ash,* says – reply to this

    2

Hahahah you're fucked if you think that's the reason. Truely fucked.

  3. 3

I'm so sad they pushed this movie back again. I got to see it at Sundance and it's hilarious! Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey killed it in this movie. Hopefully it will get a release date soon.

  4. 4

Maybe the movie sucks.(no pun intended)

  5. 5

This movie looks worse than Bubble Boy. It should have been pulled.

  6. 6

It was released in the UK. i thought it was brilliant. If thats the reason why then its a shame!

  7. 7

It came out in england (no pun intended ^.^) a couple of weeks ago. It was great :) I love Jim Carry and Ewan McGregor and the movie was really cute :)

  8. 8

anything with jim carrey has to be boring. YAWN! Over it.

  9. 9

I watched it online illegally and I LOVED IT!

  10. 10

Thank God. Who the hell wants to see a movie about 2 gay twinks. Yuck. Being gay is not fabulous, cool, rad or marvi. It is no way to live a life. Forget about it and straighten yourselfs out.

  11. 11

It's not because of the "homolicious" content. It's because they're white. Duh.

  12. 12

    too bad…

I would've liked to see McGregor / Carrey man on man action :P

  13. 13

I'm not sure if that's the only reason, but I'm sure it's one of them. It's hard to picture these two actors as lovers; even in a comedy- for mid-America. And the other thing is that Pro-gay groups might be upset depending on the comedy content. ie- It could be taken as them making fun of gay people. I've been waiting for this movie for so long, it seems like forever! I can't wait to see it personally.

  14. 14

    Re: njpaul129
YIKES…You sir/madame are VERY tactful & should be the spokesman for tolerance!

  15. 15

    Get over yourself!
They're not going to hold a movie that's already been completed and has a distributor because of the theme: they'll postpone it because it's not very good and they're re-editing it.
Remember Carrey's and McGregor's stars are setting, and they're B-list at best now.

  16. 16

i saw it in the uk and thought it was the most offensive film towards gay people ive ever seen. until you find out its a true story.
the story is great but they present gays as aids monkeys who sleep with anyone and everyone…

  17. 17

no one likes gay people. its only glamorized by fools like you.

  18. 18

just another example of how the uk is ideologically ahead of the us. keep 'em comin!

  19. 19

that's so stupid. it's just because people feel uncomfortable because of homosexuality. i feel like there should be more media about it because then maybe the public will finally accept it. it's not ever going to disappear, it's a part of life so stupid political dicks and over controlling christians should finally just let it be.

    it's just a movie.
    for pure entertainment.

  20. 20

It was released in Scotland a few weeks ago…

  21. 21

I saw it in wales, uk and its helarious. dont know why they ar ekicking up a fuss about it. Its based on a true story and is one of the phew good romantic films out there with a wicked twist

  22. Laury says – reply to this

    22

The movie is probably just really bad, unfortunately. Which is sad because I think it had potential.

  23. 23

I ama CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE and I was Taught and FIRMLY believe that Homosexuality is an ABOMINATION before God!>. ITs ABout timethat Hollywood had some GODLY standards and did what was right!

  24. 24

Came out in Ireland and did well enough. I really enjoyed it!

  25. 25

Yes they are holding out because of it's gayness. Yet a few years ago a gay themed movie was up for a few OSCARS. It was pull;ed back because it has failed at film festivals and with private screening. It was horribly written.

  26. 26

I guess since gay actors have been playing straight people since forever, it's only fair straight people play gay characters. Still, I am sure they could have found two gay actors to assume these roles. Carrey is funny and all, and McGregor is quirky, but I am not sure they would be convincing.

  27. 27

um, how could the fact that there's gay content be the reason? ever heard of brokeback mountain? DER!

  28. 28

Sooner or later, everyone seems to rip off Brokeback Mountain. Comedians in particular are guilty of this. A lot of Hollywood still thinks of gay people as something to make fun of. They're just not taken seriously.
And as people get older, some of them run out of ideas. So they steal them from another artist. This is why I don't post content on the internet anymore. Stephenie Meyer has also discontinued this practice.

  29. 29

im confused so its not out in usa yet? I saw it back in march in Glasgow. I thought it was really good I love Ewan McGregor xx

  30. 30

Maybe after all the "American-izing" edits, the movie was crap. They loved it in England, but will it play in Peoria?

  31. 31

    becaues it sucks

  32. 32

Highly doubt that the movie is being delayed because of the homoerotic content. Brokeback Mountain, Milk, Rocky Horror, Prayers for Bobby, and Rent

  33. 33

oh get over yourself, perez… Not everyone in the world is against gay people. The movie was probably just a stinker.

  34. 34

Well, contrary to how you think the world should be, most people do not like to see gay men making out. I am a very liberal person and believe in equality and same-sex marriage, but something about seeing two guys or two women making out, etc. kind of gets to me. I don't believe it is wrong, I just don't find it ENTERTAINING. I'm sure the movie is funny and I may go see it if it gets good reviews, but they are probably basing their decision on focus group comments, which, if you live in LA, you know all about.

  35. 35

Re: PA:INPOWER2012 – If your such a high and mighty BIGOT (as ALL people with your ignorant believes) then what the hell R U doing on a and belonging to a website that was started, owned and operated by one of the most openly gay men in america?..your an idiot. Now I whole heartitly believe in gay rights as I also believe in african american rights and rights for all minorites…but the problem as I see it is that many times, just as in this case, this movie gets shelveed and instintantly its because it has gay men in it.why cant it have gotten shelved because it sucked..or because someone in the movie wants more money or something stupid like that, why does it have to be a direct attack against the gay community…I knew a guy one time that was gay..and very open about it everyone knew it and had no problems with it. But oneday he was being a jerk..so I clocked him. Everyone around started in on me that I was gay bashing and the such…I wasnt gay bashing..I was asshole bashing..why is it that everytime something alittle off happens to a gay idividual..instantly its cuz there gay..or its because there black..or because there hispanic…and so on thats the problem with this country..to many people think there special and not enough people accept that there "just another person"

  36. 36

The movie was postponed because Jim Carrey isn't going to do a publicity tour for it right now. He obviously doesn't want to talk about his breakup with Jenny McCarthy, and that's all anyone would be asking him. Without his publicity support, the movie wouldn't sell.

  37. 37

This movie was released in Finland and I thought it was funny and the story is truly interesting. Steven Jay Russell is such a Houdini!!

  38. 38

Re: PA:INPOWER2012 – Isn't God supposed to love everyone though? I'm sure hate isn't very Christian. (And this is coming from a confirmed Lutheran)

  39. 39

For those of us lucky enough to see this film at a film festival, it WAS GREAT. The issue here is homophobia, plain and simple.

  40. 40

I saw it. It didn't suck at all: it was hilarious ! Ewan was the cute. I swear it was reallly fun. It's lame to postponed it because it's about homos and prison.

  41. Jaded says – reply to this

    41

You might want to consider in your "reality" that the distribution company couldn't afford to put it out in the US because if the costs of distribution. The Weinsteins are sitting on a bunch of films that they picked up one of which is a sports themed film, but they haven't released yet because given the choice in throwing money and publicity and marketing they opted to throw all their eggs in the Inglorious Bastards basket. Sometimes it's more about business expenses than it is about your anti-gay agenda. Do you honestly think that any studio would hold up a good movie that has a bunch of buzz because it's about gay people?
If you're going to start a fight start a fight about something that needs fighting. I don't see you donating your time, energy, and money into helping gay people. Unless of course there is a camera around.

  42. 42

It was released in Europe, I saw it, and it was brilliant.

  43. 43

Maybe Jim Carrey should have done that talking out of his ass thing (like in Ace Ventura Pet Detective) while being cornholed. That would have brought the LOLgasms.

  44. 44

I wanna see it…I hope it comes out

  45. 45

why do people worry about gayness? it looks like a great story-brokeback mountain was a great story.
    I wanna see it!

  46. 46

I read the script, and it was very good! Sorry they have made this decision.

  47. 47

Shut up Perez Hilton, just because there's queers in it that doesn't mean it's a good movie.

  48. 48

so, gays take up only 10% of the general population but we've got girls making out with each other on network TV, beyonce and lady gaga as the most popular music groups, and gay characters in every movie released since 2004.

is anyone really surprised that there is a backlash against gay content, including this movie? sometimes the best thing to do to push your agenda is to just put your head down and work hard, not shove it in people's faces

  49. 49

It's been out over here in the UK for a while and it is honestly shit. Not because it's main focus is on a gay relationship, it's just generally shit!

  50. 50

Ive see it and it is really crap movie. Also quite offensive. Should have gone straight to dvd if it had to be made.

  51. 51

Its been out in England for ages and has had really good reviews in the newspapers. America is so backward, its the 21st century for gods sake. Some people are gay! Get over it.

  52. 52

I saw it and it's quite good, but not that great. It's too long, they could have cut out a good half hour or so.

  53. 53

    Re: PA:INPOWER2012

I'm a Christian, too, and I think people like you are an abomination before God … and an abomination on the educational system wherever you grew up. What's with the shitty grammar and punctuation?

  54. 54

It came out in Norway yesterday :) Haven't seen it yet though, but I will ^_^

  55. 55

Lions Gate will pick it up….guaranteed…mark my words.

  56. 56

it came out in the UK a while ago, I saw it and really liked it. Was still very under publiscied here too though x

  57. 57

The movie performed dismally in the UK. The fact that neither Carrey of McGregor are exactly box office powerhouses anymore is another factor. I don't think "gay" has anything to do with it being shelved. It is simple economics. No studio is going to risk any of their hard earned ducats for a film that is only going to play for a few weeks (if at all) to a niche audience right now.

  58. 58

maybe it's crap. maybe it's a way to create buzz so people will actually pay to see it. maybe it's going straight to dvd. maybe for the lgbt it is not "gay-correct"
    who knows…

  59. 59

Unless you're gay you're not gonna wanna see this movie. Ew.

  60. 60

i have some friends from the Philippines who saw the movie in manila. they liked it! they are a mixture of gays and straights. the only bad comment was they felt that there were a lot of cuts due to censorship.

hopefully, they will release it here. isn't that weird!

  61. 61

Its out in ireland, havent seen it, heard great things about it though.

Just proves a point, americans have no sense of humour.

If you find something offensive, dont give yourself in the possibility of being offended - dont go to watch movies about gay men for example. I find religion and blood offensive, so when the passion of the christ came out, I ignored it.

  62. 62

so, you expect all of us to AGREE WITH YOU THAT IT IS BEING HELD BACK BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT GAYS, even though no one has seen it? BULL. How can anyone give an unseen opinion? I do not know how many people write this CRAP anymore, but you would think, and I am assuming at least one of them can think, that going over the history of the blog, they/he/she would know not everyone here jumps on the gay band wagon and agrees because the GREAT 'PEREZ' wants us too. No, we do not know the content, so we do not know why it has been postponed, just like the probably thousands of movies that go straight to dvd

  63. 63

All you do is run your mouth Perez. You "hope" thats not the case? You're telling others what they should and should not invest in? Heres an idea, why don't you fund the movies release and stop bitching about others should do.

  64. 64

It's a good movie. I saw it in Paris in february when it was released in France.

  65. 65

Wow..if that really is why they have postponed it, then its just sad…This is 2010 people!!!!

  66. 66

I like Jim C. but I don’t want to see him as a knob gobbler.

  67. 67

If the movie wasn't gay themed you wouldn't give half a damn about it and be poking fun at the people in the movie like you do when singers get their albums pushed back Perez the movie could have just plain and simply failed like so many others do it happens all the time.

  68. 68

    oboma

  69. 69

Re: Simon13 – please tell me thats a stab at brokeback mountain

  70. 70

I was somewhat interested in this movie.
I don't think it got pulled for being too "gay", though. After BrokeBack Mountain , what's "too gay"?

  71. 71

    Re: PA:INPOWER2012
As far as I'm concerned , Christianity is an abomination. Judaism and Islam too.

  72. 72

its out here in the UK. its not getting much attention though - no one seems all that interested in it. whats going on with jim carrey though? films often get pushed back when the stars cant do the publicity - jim carrey has been pretty quiet lately except for splitting from his gf.

  73. 73

    i wanna see it :)

  74. 74

I'm sorry but I saw the movie a few weeks back in the UK and it was not good. The only convincing thing about the movie was that it was based on a true story.

The sad fact is that the gay storyline will have caused upset for some (possibly small minded) people but that doesn't overlook the fact that it was far from a 'great' movie.

  75. 75

I love this film, it seems to be doing well enough over here. It was really good, really romantic and sad. Even jim carrey was good and I usually hate him

  76. 76

well that must just be in america because im in the uk and i saw it a couple of weeks back, it was really funny and oddly sweet

  77. BD4ME says – reply to this

    77

Warner Bros. picked it up for release in most countries in Europe. The US is just a different market - a biggoted one.

  78. 78

its probably because of big tabacco, philip morris can pay for anything.

  79. ice19 says – reply to this

    79

they started showing this movie in iceland like two weeks ago… it's an awesome movie.

  80. 80

The film is out in the UK!

  81. 81

Anyone who says this is about America's feelings towards homosexuality, do your research. Boys Don't Cry (OSCAR), Rent, Milk (OSCAR), Brokeback Mountain (OSCAR), the Runaways, etc. are just a few of the movies released in the United States that have homoerotic content. A lot of the people here who have seen the film, say it sucks. Why would a production company want to spend millions of dollars promoting and releasing something that is going to fail in the box-office? Especially in this economy. So stop putting words into our mouths and stop preaching about how we are all idiots who don't accept homosexuality in Hollywood. That's a pretty broad generalization and makes you look stupid.

  82. 82

that's fucking bullshit! i cannot believe that crap. if it's a gay-themed movie, it has to get edited. and for WHAT?! it's more than okay if sex and violence in a movie, it gets a pg-13 rating. i realllyy hope this movie comes out. i sincerely CANNOT WAIT.!

  83. 83

    Maybe it sucks.

  84. 84

yes NO ONE WANTS TO SEE A GAY THEMED MOVIE WHICH IS WHY BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN WON A FUCKING OSCAR. YOUARE SO PERCEPTIVE, PI GREZ!!

  85. 85

    its a conspiracy!!!!!! omg!!!!!!!!

  86. 86

Re: PA:INPOWER2012 – well if you actually read the bible, you would realize that nowhere in it does it say homosexuality is an abomination or even wrong. the verse that is always used to reference that is always taken out of Leviticus OUT OF CONTEXT, it is a book or very rules basically, I highly doubt you do all the weird rituals it says or believe that being drunk is the same as being gay. PS GET OFF PEREZHILTON.COM

  87. 87

It was released in Ireland and the UK like a month ago,and I think it was kinda popular although I haven't seen it.

  88. 88

I saw this a few weeks ago in Dublin. It's a classic - really funny, daring and original. Truly something worth seeing… it'll be a great shame if they don't release it in cinemas stateside

  89. 89

Re: PA:INPOWER2012 – why are you even on this site then? stop being so closed minded and naive.

  90. 90

Right, it's because they're gay. Is that why broke back mountain never got released? Oh wait, it did.

  91. 91

Some movies on gay themes are not funny or even watchable. Take Bruno for example. Not amusing merely disgusting.

  92. 92

I live in London and the movie has been out for at least a month now!
Is this really happening in the states?

  93. 93

The plot doesn't sound that great. If it were a full-on drama, maybe, but with the movie poster, I'm guessing comedy and with that story-line it just doesn't sound incredibly funny. Even if a shitty story-line is at fault though, crappy movies open every day why would this one be any different?

  94. 94

Re: njpaul129 – BUT YOU SUCKED MY CRUSTY LEFT NUT LAST NIGHT WHILE FINGERING MY DIRTY ASSHOLE ??

  95. 95

    THIS MOVIE WAS SOOOOO FUNNY!!!

SERIOUSLY, I LAUGHED THE HARDEST I HAVE IN AGES AT A MOVIE. I CRIED I LAUGHED SO HARD AT TIMES. THE LAUGHS JUST KEPT COMING.

THIS MOVIE IS SO OVER THE TOP RIDICULOUS, AND IT IS A TRUE STORY!!!!!
    IT'S UNBELIEVABLE.
I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL YOU NORTH AMERICANS WHO ARE BEING DEPRIVED OF THIS FILM, BECAUSE IT IS A REAL LOSS. NO JOKE.

I DON'T CARE IF YOU LIKE JIM CARREY OR NOT, BOTH ACTORS DO A FANTASTIC JOB IN THIS FILM AND IT IS A LAUGH RIOT. JUST WHEN YOU THINK IT CAN'T GET MORE FUNNY, IT DOES.

IT WAS RELEASED HERE IN EUROPE MONTHS AGO, AND I JUST WENT WITH A FRIEND NOT KNOWING WHAT IT WAS ABOUT REALLY…WHAT A BRILLIANT SURPRISE IT WAS.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD BE HELD BACK BECAUSE OF GAY SCENES, BECAUSE THE FILM HAS SO MUCH IN IT…I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER THOSE ASPECTS OF THE FILM - WHAT I DO REMEMBER ARE TWISTS AND TURNS IN THE PLOT, OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS, WONDERFUL CHARACTERS, AND AMAZING ACTING.

TO MISS THIS MOVIE IS A REAL SHAME. JIM CARREY AND EWAN MCGREGOR SHOW THEIR COMEDIC TALENT IN THIS ONE FOR SURE.

  96. 96

There's other reasons to post-pone it.

  97. 97

ITS DEFINITELY BECAUSE OF ITS CONTENT!!! I MEAN NOBODY WANTS TO SEE A MOVIE WHERE THE MAIN SUBJECT IS A MAN FUCKIN ANOTHER MAN…SO NASTY!!!

  98. 98

Facts: It's not about a shitty storyline. It's based on a true story.
Ewan McGregor can play quite a convincing gay man, watch a little known movie called Velvet Goldmine where Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Christian Bale all engage in homolicious acts…it's an interesting movie!
Maybe Jim Carrey wasn't in a position to promote at the time, he's been rumored to be depressed and just broke up with his longtime (Hollywood standards) girlfriend.

Just let it sit for a while and I'm sure it will make an appearance someday. For now, d/l it from England ;)

  99. 99

if you dont want to see if you dont have to but you should atleast have the choice!!!!!

  100. 100

Here's an idea. Maybe most Americans don't want to see two dudes making out and the studios know it. Seriously, it's pretty dang revolting. Was watching the Marriage Ref on TV and Nathan Lang was on. Not a problem. I like him, he's really funny and super talented. But, then they bring on a two dudes who are married. Disturbing to say the least. Every week this show states they are a "family show". Well, this move will tank their ratings. Watch and see. Again, straight couples don't want to watch this. Hey, do what you want but don't expect straight people to enjoy watching you do it.
