Minor League Team Signs Female Pitcher!

What a step in the right direction!

18-year-old Japanese female knuckleball pitcher Eri Yoshida has signed with the U.S. minor league team the Chico Outlaws!

The all-male team (until now!) is part of the Golden Baseball League and their signing of Yoshida marks the first female pitcher to be playing for a professional baseball team in the last 10 years!

Love it!

"I am grateful for this opportunity to pitch for the Chico Outlaws," said Yoshida. "This is a dream come true for me, and I hope I can contribute to the team and help them win and also to continue to improve as a pro baseball player."

Take that spirit all the way to the majors!

once again, an attempt to be progressive and failing completely, this league/team does this for publicity only, the same team traded a guy for baseball bats (yeah thats right, bats!) to make the news. This chick will not make it to the majors, I am guessing your sister wrote this lame entry without even reading the story.

i thought all you liked to blog about was gays???? wow u had something to say about normal straight people for once? shocker.

The Outlaw aren't a minor league team, they are an independent league team which means that they don't have an affiliation with a MLB team. Independent league teams are known for pulling stunts like this to get publicity.

LOVE this post. Thank you, Perez!

    chico is awsome

For me I would say this is bullshit. There are many woman in the US that can trow a ball. Why can't we let one our own play and she stay in her country?? I am so mad at this. I pray she never makes it to the major league.

There could be more female ballplayers if they didn't throw like girls.

  11. 11

she's not the first woman signed. back in the 1990's there was a woman by the name of Ila Borders who signed with the St. Paul Saints. Good thing this site isn't known for its credibility. Only its bullshit.

  12. 12

    wasnt this on futurama

Re: bitchweeed – Yes, Ila Borders signed with the St. Paul Saints, but only after playing a few seasons with the Duluth/Superior Dukes.

  14. 14

Re: bwaybia – Actually Ila was first signed by the Saints, played with them first… then was traded to Duluth. I was actually at her very first game, there was tons of press there for it…. but she wasn't very good, so they traded her away to Duluth once the novelty of a female pitcher wore off.

She was the first woman to pitch in a College World Series game also… the Saints were her first professional team.

Re: jayjay81 – my bad. I thought it was the other way around. I was pretty young when she was up here in Duluth anyways. Thanks for clearing that up!

Perez, Why do you "Love" this? Eventually, men will start wanting "equal" play in women's sports and it will end up ruining it all, lol. Unless you feel women can play men's sports but men can't play women's sports…? hmmmm?

Tiffany Brooks from Spokane, Washington has also signed

Re: bitchweeed – it does say, "…signing of Yoshida marks the first female pitcher to be playing for a professional baseball team in the last 10 years!" so mention of a previous women baseball player is there.

I grew up in Chico and this is awesome! Thats just like Chico to be so cool and friendly.

  22. 22

This woman needs to go back to where she belongs- the kitchen.

  23. 23

She has zero chance of making it to the majors. This is not an accomplishment, this is a PR stunt. You know nothing about sports other than male figure skating douchebag.

  24. 24

This is wonderful news, another step towards a feminist revolution!!

Re: jtc.okay – Rofl, the MLB isn't sexist because they dont hire girls..There is no way in hell a girl can hit a ball hard enough to hit a homerun and a girl most definitely can't pitch at a 100 mph..and yea this was a huge PR stunt, this girl has no chance, if she was hella fast and played in arena football then id be like yea maybe she can make it to the NFL..and then get creamed by someone literally 300lb's heavier than her…Sorry but guys are bigger and stronger than girls..and thats two things you need for pro sports :S

Your information is incorrect. Tiffany Brooks, is in fact, the first female to sign a pro contract in America in pro baseball since Ila Borders. Ms. Brooks signed on March 4, 2010 over a month prior to Yoshida, with the Big Bend Cowboys of the Continental Baseball League (www.bigbendcowboys.com). Ms. Brooks is also a Pitcher, but plays 1B as well. If she appears as a position player in men's pro baseball, she will be the first female to do so in approximately 60 years. Please contact me for the original press release or to schedule an interview.
