Group Plans To Charge Pope With Crimes Against Humanity For Part In Church Sex Scandal!
Author and outspoken atheist, Richard Dawkins, has teamed with Christopher Hitchens and a group of lawyers who are determined to charge Pope Benedict XVI with crimes against humanity for his compliance in covering up sex abuse scandals in the Catholic Church!
He says:
"This is a man whose first instinct when his priests are caught with their pants down is to cover up the scandal and damn the young victims to silence."
So true. Absolutely disgusting.
He and his team believe that Benedict will not be able to use diplomatic immunity because he is not actually a head of state, at least by United Nations standards.
Wow. It will certainly be interesting to see how this all plays out.
What do U think?? Should the Pope face charges because of his past actions??

We need to treat the Pope as the human that he is. Because he is in such a respected role he needs to, above all, set an example to everyone and especially people of Catholic faith by acting lawfully to both his faiths law and also laws that govern today's society.
He is not above the law and therefore should be prosecuted accordingly. It is wrong to cover up such things to protect the name of the church, it would set a better example if the general public knew the Pope was condemning such behaviour. We must not judge him for being a catholic (for example all catholic priests are child molesters) and we must also treat this high ranking man with the authority his position calls. But in saying that. He is NOT above the law.

I guess you could reason if it didn't start with him, it should not end with him, compliance included. I'd like to see the Catholic Church blatantly acknowledge that abuse is not an option and act on that when it is one.
Religion does cater to a mass and it does act within a framework, so this should be a no brainer. I guess a direct attack would symbolize "stand up for your religion and make the sacrifice". Yet, I'd rather that came from Rome so Americans aren't blamed and also add the question "how well can celibate men suspect"? In any case, something needs to be done to make abuse unacceptable.

It always fascinates me, when people say all catholics should go away and die and things like this. Have you ever heard of the freedom of religion? I belive everybody should be allowed to belive whatever she/he wants. I don't care if someone's gay, muslim, jewish or catholic.
It's incredibly sad, what's happening in the church, but you can't judge a whole religion based on some people's own decisions and sins. But I DO THINK we should do something for those poor kids.
I always got love and hope from the catholic church and I've never met a priest to whom I couldn't look up. I went to a catholic school and those were the best years.

I'm not condoning in any way the Pope's actions and choices, I just don't like mixing real journalism with gossip and superficiality.
It's not about sex offenders in general. Of course, there are many many sex offenders and the majority is not a catholic priest, but that's not the point. The point is that the catholic church has a lot of money, not to mention power over their followers and therefore responsibility. These scandals were covered up by these people and that's unforgivable.
But hey, I always knew the catholic church could be like this. In every single book I've read about an Irish youth, for example, there would be a molesting priest. XD

I remember somewhere reading that the vatican is considered a sanctuary and you cant get anyone out unless they walk out voluntarily. That being said, Keeping secrets and silence is the keystone to abuse. If you have to keep it secret, then you know your doing something your ashamed of or wrong.
