Grammy-Nominated Christian Singer Comes Out!

| Filed under: Gay Gay GayMusic MinuteLGBT

Good for you! Being who you are is always the most important thing!

Though she has been on hiatus for the last seven years, Jennifer Knapp is a well-known and celebrated singer in the Christian community. We just hope she continues to be as such as she has recently publicly announced that she is a lesbian.

She reveals that the last few years were to re-evaluate her life as a gay woman and that the term "coming out" is "very bizarre", but admits she's currently seeing a special someone that makes this moment all the sweeter.

We're happy for you! Let's hope your Christian fan base feels the same!

I am sure all her fans still love her! In that I love you even though you sicken me and are an abomination to god sort of live and let live embracing, not judging, loving Christian damn you to hell sorta way.

  2. 2

I always knew it. I just wonder if she lives her life like a "Christian" still morally and sexually (meaning saving herself for "marriage")

  3. 3

this is a big deal. good for her.

  4. 4

    She better be good…just sayin

  5. 5

yes yes yes!! I grew up listening to Jennifer's music.. and am so proud she has come out! much love and support!

  6. 6

Lol, good luck with that one. I don't see how she can save it for marriage like someone said, when according to any Christian religion I am aware does not support such unions between two of the same sex.

  7. 7

You cannot be Christian and non-homophobic. By definition, If you are a Christian, you are a homophobe. You can't pick and choose what you like about a religion and politely ignore the rest. Well, I guess you can. But then you'd be a hypocrite. Super glad I'm an Atheist.

  8. 8

    Only God can judge

  9. 9

Let's hope your Christian fan base feels the same!
    You lie, Mario!

  10. 10

I'm sure her FAKE Religion will try to "convert" her into liking men.

  11. 11

She is a truly amazing singer and songwriter. As a openly gay man who came from a Christian background, I have so much respect that she would tell her peers honestly about her sexuality. Much love to Jennifer Knapp!

Re: PostraFeeRe: hollahoedown – Absolutely you hit the nail on the head. These people that are into their religion can not pick and choose what the what to keep and what the want to ignore. Hypocrites!!

Re: mirmymac – Do you believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause too? So some guy is up there floating around judging people huh. Do you know how foolish that sounds? Just saying.

  15. 15

I'm a Christian, and i believe God loves everyone, gay or straight. It's fantastic she was able to come out and stand up for similar minded people, who have their faith but are able to keep their indivudiality. :)

  16. 16

How sad. Why do these Christians have such a stranglehold on certain verses of the bible? Judge not lest you be judged. I do hope if there is really some Christian God that is the first thing that happens to all of these hypocritical little toads.

  17. 17

Postra Fee, you CAN be a Christian and not be a homophobe. I am living proof. Look at the Episcopalian sector of Christianity, they have openly gay priests and bishops! Things are changing, but with all change it takes time. I applaud this woman and support her 100%. It is people like her who make change happen. Also, FYI, my best friend is gay and her dad is a priest and the whole church loves her just the same.

  18. 18

Re: CBenji – Not all Christians are like that!!!

  19. 19

    Re: eilish_k182 – Well said, I completely agree :)

  20. 20

Re: PostraFee – I'm a Christian and I don't think that homosexual sex is any more a "sin" (sin in Greek means "missing the mark") than heterosexual pre-marital sex. To the ancients sex was for the purpose of having children, so of course they would think you were "missing the mark" if you masterbated, had sex outside of wedlock, et al. There is nothing in the original languages, however, that specifies that "homosexuality" (which is a modern word) is hate-worthy. In fact, if you are a Christian you're supposed to–supposed to, now (not that people do), mind your own business, worry about yourself, and be forgiving to others.

  21. 21

    hate the sin…not the sinner.
    being gay is a sin.
i still love her and i'll be praying for her!

  22. 22

if they are true Christians they will support her. Good for her!

  23. 23

Re: Megamus – Megamus. Of course it is POSSIBLE call yourself a Christian and also be down with homosexuality, but, as I said before, in that case you would also be a HYPOCRITE. If the Bible is the word of God, and the bible states that homophobia is a sin, then how can a Christian deny it? Like I said.. Christians pick and choose what they like from their religion according to how they want to live their own lives. Despite the fact that I am an atheist and an anti-theist, I can honestly say that I respect those right-wing conservative Christians who oppose homosexuality, divorce, pre-marital sex and abortion because at least they really believe what they stand for.

  24. 24

Re: PostraFee – You're a moron. True Christians know that only GOD can judge them….so the rest of it doesnt matter….and I am a Christian and I beleive that God wouldn't make someone the way they are only to have them 'damned' regardless. I beleive that we are all differen for a reason and that reason is so that we can learn to love one another based on who we are a people, not on what color, sexual orientation, etc. You have to remember that Bible says that all sins are equal in the eyes of the Lord, so that means, in my understanding that telling a lie is the same as being a homo… But honestly, I dont beleive that being gay is a sin..its how a person is born.

  25. 25

I'm sure most would love to believe that every single Christian singer lives a "perfect" life away from the stage, but there are SEVERAL that do it only for the money, and I'm sure MANY of those have drug and alcohol problems that we never hear about. Obviously Jennifer feels that by being REAL about the "flaws" in her Christian faith (not to step on toes, but Christian religion preaches adamantly about homosexuality) then she will gain respect from her fans who wil appreciate that she's at least honest.

  26. 26

Re: kugar – I think your wrong,I'm a christian and christians are very accepting of gay people! u can be gay and christian! it doesn't mean you hate god if your gay! think about it!

  27. 27

Re: MegamusRe: Megamus – I definetley agree with you megamus! thanx for putting it into perspective for ppl who don't understand! :)

  28. 28

Re: crazyinla – Thats not the 'Christian Faith' thats the 'Christian Chuch' there is a HUGE difference. The moment a church refuses to help those who need it the most, which is what the Christian Faith is about, is the moment that it is wrong.

  29. 29

Re: CBenji – watch ur mouth!

  30. 30

Re: Wideyedinnocents – I completely agree with u! I love how u said that being gay isn't a sin!

  31. 31

Re: Wideyedinnocents – Well thank you for the insult. I think that you, too, are a moron. So now that that's settled - I really don't care about why you think we're "all different", or what you think god's motivations are. All your post managed to accomplish was to further support MY argument that all of this deviation from what CHRISTIANS call the word of god is due to every individual's need to adjust their religion according to their own personal morality. Take a look at your post… It's all about what YOU believe. Not about the FACTS set out in the bible.

    Classic Hypocrite.

  32. 32

Re: PostraFee – Nope. I understand what the Bible says…but what you need to remember is that the OLD testament is where you find a majority of those homosexuality verses…Christians follow the NEW testament..and Jesus taught us to not judge…it is not our place. Therefore, I leave the judgement and the condemnation to GOD..its not my place.

  33. 33

Re: PostraFee – So in essence, to be a hyprocrite as you say I am, I would in turn have to say, I am a Christian and I dont judge others…but I think Gay people are going to hell….THATS hyprocritical.

  34. 34

I love her music. I think it is great that she found the strength and courage to be true to herself. I am a Christian/Orthodox and have been taught that homosexuality is a "sin." What isn't a sin?
    Having bad thoughts=sin
    Disrespecting your parents=sin
    etc etc…

In the end, God will judge us all. No one is perfect, except for Jesus that died for all of our sins. Who is Knapp hurting? No one. She is happy, and she only has to answer to herself and God.

  35. 35

Re: Rintendo – Are you kidding?? Well you're one of those "Christians" that pick and choose what they want to out of the bible and ignore the rest. Well it can't be that way. You're just as wrong as sinners. All these people saying, "I'm Christian and it's ok to be gay" No, no no. Read your bible people all the answers are in there plain as day!!

  36. 36

That's cool. I have her first album and still listen to it every know and then. I really love her voice, it's calming.

  37. 37

Re: meccano – i dont think thats how u spell mecano….p.s. im not a grammar nazi not by a long shot, but i woulda laughed at your joke if instead of trying to read it i woulda realized it was all together lol..a.k.a. with the dashes in the right places people can read it easier and laugh

  38. 38

  39. 39

To all those saying you cant be non homophobic if ur christian, and if u are u are picking and choosing u bitches are completely wrong…no were in the bible does it say hate homosexuality or that it is wrong, thats just the way of some christian choosings wrongly interpreting the bible to their wants and needs period. Being a christian means you believe in christ and in being good and others..god never said follow the rules to the dot of the old testament, in fact he only said love yourself ur neighbor and god…and if ur gonna reffer to leviticus, that is a complete misinterpretation the word from which they translated "abomination" actually meant unsanitary a.k.a. think stds…also jewish tradition was formed to counteract all traditions around them thats why they disliked women so much, cuz other religions around them praised women…and in the new testament jesus heels a soldiers gay lover/slave, and also he said it was ok for some guys to not get married to women because they were gay "enoochs from their mothers womb". IF ANY HOMOPHOBE IS GONNA ATTACK ME U BETTER HAVE SOME PROOF

  40. 40

Going a bit off topic here, I wondered if now that she's admitted and accepted that she's gay that she'll still keep faith in God by being religious without practicing organized religion…

  41. 41

Re: hcoboy – Okay, so for the sake argument I will put aside all the blatantly obvious homophobia in Laviticus that you (and many other hypocritical christians) rationalize into being "misinterpretations'. Shall we now turn our attention to 1 Corinthians 6; 1 Timothy 1.. "he unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals….will inherit the kingdom of God". We can't forget Deuteronomy, which reads "God says not be bring any whore, sodomite, or dog into the house of the Lord. For "these things are an abomination to the Lord." The word "sodomite" and "dog" is used throughout the bible to refer to homosexuals. And, finally, Romans reads "Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

How the heck can you turn a blind eye to ANY of that? Boggles my mind.

  42. 42

Her label is dropping her and her Christian fans are returning her CD by the thousands and demanding she return the Grammy…SAD!

  43. 43

So how can a person be a Christian and a homosexual?

    It doesn't work that way.

  44. 44

Re: PostraFee – yeah actually…funny that you think sodomites is used to refer to homosexuals…find all the times in the bible they talk about the sins of the sodomites and they never once mention men sleeping with men, they constantly say that the "sodomites" sin was actually not being good hosts, so technically sodomites should mean bad host period….the i dont know how adulturers would go to hell when christ himself told his people that the taxcollectors and the prostitutes were ahead of them on their way to heaven AND THAT WAS CHRIST..and besides corintians was written by paul and he was very anti jewish, and appart from that paul was always for equal rights and it is very well known many other pseudepigrapha wrote under the name of paul and it wasnt him…and tell me where your getting ur info from that says dogs refers to homosexuals? there was no specific term for homosexual so get it straight kido..and Timothy is pseudepigrapha too….deutoronomy is also in the old testament which is JEWISH tradition already explained this one, and i told u how abomination is a wrong translation…

  45. 45

Re: PostraFee – oh and deuteronomy is still when they were still in the dessert and the house of "god" was a tent they carried around where a PHYSICAL god was in, you tell me how true that sounds..and in regards to the Romans one, unnatural in pauls time did not mean any homosexual sexual reationships, it refered to being overcome with lust, a.k.a. they were having TOO MUCH sex and therefore it was pointless because it was not love

  46. 46

YES, Good on her… she can be whatever she wants. i don't care if she was really an alien!

  47. 47

  48. 48

Re: meccano – I tink she can do whatever she wants!

  49. 49

    there's goes her fan base…

  50. 50

Sooo many Christian leaders and entertainers have come out and their base abandons them I hope she will have success and her fans will stick with her!

  51. 51

Re: Mr. Strat – But doesn't Jesus love everyone regardless of their 'sins'?

  52. 52

Re: PostraFee – Well you are certainly mistaken, people pick and choose all the time from the bible and things change all the time. Lots of christian churches support gay unions now and even have gay bishops clergy. Lots of christians are for the death penalty and the pope and many christian leaders are so against it. So I'm not sure what you are talking about .

  53. 53

atta girl! pretty brave indeed! it isn't easy being both gay & christian, i know that first hand

  54. 54

I have been a fan of Jennifers for years. she is amazing and incredibly talented. I love her for who she is and am so happy for her! this news will certainly affect her record sales and fan base, but let haters be haters. she doesnt need them.

  55. 55

Re: mgarcia33 – I would worry about all the latino gang members and less about the people born gay. Educate yourself about gay people, because if God does exist I think the people that have harassed gay people from birth til death will suffer badly not innocent gays.

  56. 56

Re: PostraFee – For someone who goes out of their way to tell us that they are not religous you sure seem to be one homophoic piece of shit. Many christians disagree with you,so if you are uneducated and bigoted as you come off religon doesn't give you the cover you think it does asshole.

  57. 57

The word "homosexual" was first used in the very late in 19th century CE. (AD for you) There was no Hebrew word that meant "homosexual." Thus, whenever the word is seen in an English translation of the Bible, one should be wary that the translators might be inserting their own prejudices into the text.
There was not even a word for 'homosexuality' or 'homosexual' in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic, the original languages of scripture.

  58. 58

So many words in the bible's original text have no know meaning as the words died out. Words like “arsenokoitai” which was once thought to mean temple prostitutes then later thought to mean masturbation. At the time of Martin Luther, the latter meaning was in universal use. But by the 20th century, masturbation had become a more generally accepted behaviour, whereas many Christians were concentrating on homosexuality as a despised activity. New Biblical translations abandoned references to masturbators and switched the attack to homosexuals. The last religious writing in English that interpreted 1 Corinthians 6:9 as referring to masturbation is believed to be the [Roman] Catholic Encyclopedia of 1967.
THE BIBLE changes to suit the hate of the day.

  59. 59

The whole story of jesus if fake..Proven is the fact that the story of Jesus is a copy of the story of the Egyptian "god" Horus who's story was wrote during the Predynastic Period…
That's about 5500 before Common Era or 5500 BC for the bible thumpers.
Plan facts.. With historic proof! Those damn pyramids and those Hieroglyphics…
The catholic church acknowledges the similarities between jesus and Horus
but claim he wasn't a virgin birth.. So the catholic church can read Hieroglyphics better then the experts ? How they would know or how that makes any difference who knows ?
    Horus: By a virgin.
    Jesus: By a virgin.
Horus: Only begotten son of the God Osiris.
Jesus: Only begotten son of Yehovah (in the form of the Holy Spirit).
    Horus: Meri.
    Jesus: Miriam (a.k.a. Mary).
    Foster father:
    Horus: Seb, (Jo-Seph).
    Jesus: Joseph.
    Foster father's ancestry:
    Horus: Of royal descent.
    Jesus: Of royal descent.
    Birth location:
    Horus: In a cave.
Jesus: In a cave or stable.
    Birth heralded by:
Horus: The star Sirius, the morning star.
Jesus: An unidentified "star in the East."
    Method of death:
    Horus: By crucifixion.
    Jesus: By crucifixion.
    Accompanied by:
    Horus: Two thieves.
    Jesus: Two thieves.
These are but a few of the comparisons… Both are said to have healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, walk on water and so on and so on… The Jesus myth is just a knock off the Egyptian myth of Horus!

  60. 60

The bible contains three same sex relationships
    Ruth and Naomi
    David and Jonathan
    Daniel and Ashpenaz
Ruth 1:16-17 and 2:10-11 describe their close friendship Perhaps the best known passage from this book is Ruth 1:16-17 which is often read out during opposite-sex and same-sex marriage and union ceremonies:
"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." (NIV)
Ruth 1:14, referring to the relationship between Ruth and Naomi, mentions that "Ruth clave onto her." (KJV) The Hebrew word translated here as "clave" is identical to that used in the description of a heterosexual marriage in Genesis 2:24: " Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." (KJV)

  61. 61

Passages in 1 Samuel & 2 Samuel describe, among other events, a extremely close bond between David and Jonathan. Jonathan was the son of King Saul, and next in line for the throne. But Samuel anointed David to be the next king. This produced a strong conflict in the mind of Saul.
    1 Samuel 18:1
"…Jonathan became one in spirit with David and he loved him as himself." (NIV)
"…the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul" (KJV)
    1 Samuel 18:2
"From that day, Saul kept David with him and did not let him return to his father's house." (NIV)
David left his parent's home and moved to Saul's where he would be with Jonathan. This is a strong indication that the relationship was extremely close. It echoes the passage marriage passage in Genesis 2:24: "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."
    1 Samuel 18:3-4
"And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt." (NIV)
Since people in those days did not wear underwear, Jonathan stripped himself naked in front of David. That would be considered extremely unusual behavior (then and now) unless their relationship was physical.

  62. 62

    1 Samuel 20:41
"After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with is face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together - but David wept the most." (NIV)
    2 Samuel 1:26
"I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother; you were very dear to me. Your love for me was wonderful, more wonderful than that of women."
In the society of ancient Israel, it was not considered proper for a man and woman to have a platonic relationship. Men and women rarely spoke to each other in public. Since David's only relationships with women would have been sexual in nature, then he must be referring to sexual love here. It would not make sense in this verse to compare platonic love for a man with sexual love for a woman; they are two completely different phenomena. It would appear that David is referring to his sexual love for Jonathan.

Ive always been a big fan of her music and will continue to be one! Im happy she has found peace with herself and her sexual identity! And I really hope my fellow Christians will really strive to BE Christian in their attitudes about this! Jesus was about LOVE people!!

    Just sayin!

  64. 64

Re: Aussieone – aww :( lol u made my small points against that biggot minimal compared to yours lol… wow are you a religion major or something?

  65. 65

Re: PostraFee – I personally am fine with homosexuals. As themselves. I am Christian. Yes, homosexuality is a sin, but it is the act in itself that I dislike, and it is the act that God dislikes. It is the sin in itself that is the problem, not the sinner. God loves everybody, including the sinners. God still loves Jennifer, even if she has come out, it is her act of homosexuality that He does not. And as many have stated, let God do the judging; it's His place anyways, as judgment is a sin as well.

I am glad that she has the courage to do this, and I do wish her the best.

  66. 66

Everyone deserves to love and be loved in return. I am a Christian, she is an amazing musician and I will support her!! You go girl!! Acceptance is the wave of the future!! God loves us ALL.

  67. 67

Re: Aussieone – hey can u tell me where to find the horus/jesus thing, i found others of jesus comparitive to mythology but they go for the jesus assimilates greek myths.

  68. 68

Thank you Aussieone- although the 'Christians' treat the buybull like a Chinese menu (pick and choose), they also will ignore what you posted and put their hands over their ears (eyes in this case), and say very loudly "LA LA LA LA, I CAN'T HEAR YOU"
Why do seemingly intelligent people hang on to these ancient superstitions? It's baffling to me.
And why am I not surprised that these loving Christians are returning her CD's? Religion always need someone or soemthing to hate for its survival.

  69. 69

Re: TP Kirkland – i find it surprising people are returning their cds

  70. 70

Re: PostraFee – I beg to differ..I am a Christian, was raised as one, and am quite devoted with my faith, and I do not discriminate or treat homosexuals as a disease. I have friends in my life (one of them who is a very close friend of mine) who are homosexual and I love them just as much as I do anyone else, if anything I love them more for who they are and the paths they have chosen for their lives. True believers of Christ who walk the faith and choose to not be homophobic are not hypocrites but doing exactly as Christ told us to. To LOVE everyone and to not pass judgement upon others unless they say they are brothers in Christ and their acts show differently.

Re: meccano – how is she an abomination? cause the old testament says so? the old testament doesnt apply anymore things have changed, and jesus died for our sins couldnt that be gays too?

i am not a fan of christian music but if i was this would not hurt me one bit, she can like who she wants, love is love.

I have asked the same question you do a lot… I know its in our DNA to be social creatures and fear loneliness its part of our evolutionary survival… we must breed.. to do so we mustn't be alone…
How that translates into ignoring logic, reason and facts, I don't know!
Faith is knowing something is not true but believing in it anyway… I don't understand how ones want to believe could be stronger than human compassion or reality ? Never believed Never have I wanted too! Science can explain our existence so it not that!
Maybe in myth people they take that fear of loneliness to the extreme ? Or maybe its just like cigarettes you know its stupid but you want one anyway!
If you work it out SHOUT the answer to me!

  73. 73

I always suspected this. She sings wonderfully and writes AMAZING lyrics.
My view may now be slightly skewed of her as a person but not as an artist…..some of her songs had me look at myself and my relationship with God even at a younger age.
I hope she is living her life the way God intended to the best of her abilities :)

    Hey hcoboy :)
You wrote: " hey can u tell me where to find the horus/jesus thing"
Google: * jesus horus similarities * and the same in Google books there are thousands about it!
Gerald Massey a English poet of the early 1900's was one of the first to write about it. The Catholic church then paid a team of Egyptologists to "disprove his work" they couldn't! So simply said they could find no proof that Horus was of a virgin birth! Can they find proof jesus actual existed or was of a virgin birth ?lol
The Egyptian obelisk that stands in Saint Peter's Square actually has or had the story of Horus on it.. It was covered over by the Vatican or covered over and erased from the stone depending on what book you read!
Horus story still remains on the pyramids of Egypt.

Re: bigray – Your comment is utterly ridiculous

  76. 76

Re: Wideyedinnocents – What makes you a TRUE christian? Please explain your answer better.

  77. 77

I am a SAVED women. I stand for truth and follow a holy and just GOD. I don't go by labels. So, she is gay. The "christian's" that all of you speak of are the quote HOLLYWOOD Christian's. Walking with GOD doesn't mean you all of the sudden become judgmental and up tight like all of you have painted "christians" out to be. I think that your comments are more judgmental then "christian" are. You paint us to be narrow minded individuals and that is not true or fair. She might lose out on fans because it's not that she is gay that is the problem it is that "christian" don't support the action and by turning our backs on her sexual preference it would deny the truth. GOD (the one I serve) did not create her to be gay. If God created her to be gay then everything I read about who God is would be a lie. The bible say's God condemns homosexuality and gives the consequence for such in Leviticus 20:13, "If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood {shall be} upon them." also that the Word (mean God's words the BIBLE) is truth.

  78. 78

For some reason this didn't post earlier! :
Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs" (KJV)
The Hebrew words which describe the relationship between Daniel and Ashpenaz are chesed v'rachamim. V'rachamim is in a plural form which is used to emphasize its relative importance. It has meaning as it is emphasized “physical love”.

Stop claiming that all Christians are the same. It only shows your stupid ignorance Mario. There are many different churches within Christianity and not all of them are homophobes. Check your facts next time. Oh wait I forgot, that's something you NEVER do!

    Re: ThingsthatmakeyousayWHAT
Homosexuality is a SEXUAL ORIENTATION not a preference.
When did you choose to be straight ? How many same sex relationship did you have before you chose to be straight ?
Just like you didn't get to choose the color of your skin or eyes or your sexuality neither did homosexuals.
Your crazy myth book says nothing of what you spew. Reading into the text what Paul did not say (a universal prohibition of homosexuality) is called eisogesis - wrongly interpreting the text. That kind of faulty interpretation is unworthy of myth people/Christians who claim to love the word of God.
There was no understanding of sexual orientation in the culture and time when scripture was written. There was not even a word for 'homosexuality' or 'homosexual' in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic, the original languages of scripture. There are biblical references that condemn same-sex sexual behavior, but they are all within contexts related to violence, idolatry, promiscuity and exploitation.
Careful reading within the historical setting reveals that it is the violence, idolatry, promiscuity and exploitation that is condemned, not the same-sex sexual behavior.
The same condemnation is given to opposite-sex sexual behavior that is violent, idolatrous, promiscuous and exploitative.

    Re: ThingsthatmakeyousayWHAT
I you have presented yourself as an expert, I need some advice from you, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:
    1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord - Lev.1: 9. The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
    2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
    3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24.
The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.
    4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations.
A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

  83. 83

    5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death.
Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
    6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?
    7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
    8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27.
    How should they die?
    9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
    10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them?
Lev.24: 10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.> 20:14)? I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.

    Re: Aussieone

You are again, taking things out of context that you have no clue of the meaning.

I am not worried about Christianity accepting her, as I am her accepting Christianity.

You cannot be a Christian, and justify a sinful life at the same time.

Christians sin, and aren't perfect. But once you justify that sin as being ok, and continue with it, you no longer are a Christian. Being a Christian means following in the footsteps of Christ and his teachings.

BTW Christ replaced the dietary and sacrificial laws. Not the spiritual ones.

    Re: JoeyW
    Mario is a Catholic/Christian!

  86. 86

BTW Christians aren't supposed to "judge" meaning say that so and so are going to hell. Pointing out that someone is justifying sinful behavior is not judging according to the Bible. Actually, the bible calls Christians to keep each other in faith.

Those that belittle those with faith, are no better than the people that they are attacking.

Re: Aussieone – oh wow, u watched religilous like the rest of us… um but some of those facts are incorrect even tho bill maher told u they were true… horus wasn't born of a virgin, just immaculate conception, slight difference, but still not the same.some versions of the story even state she used a handmade phallus. also, he was born in a swamp not a cave or manger, and he was not crucified, the only story that speaks of his death was that of him being torn into pieces and thrown in the water, and then fished out by a crocodile…

    Re: candywhore09
    Sorry haven't seen religious!
I read about it after going to Egypt and none of what I have read matches your fantasy. Both Jesus and Horus are myths so I'm not surprised that there would be many versions of the Horus tale… Just as there are many versions of the Jesus tale.. Both are were meant only to be told to children around fires not to base and live ones life on.
    So sorry you are wrong!

    Re: candywhore09
To demonstrate the point how myths change take Daniel 1:9:
    Various English translations differ greatly:
Now God had caused the official to show favor and sympathy to Daniel" (NIV)
Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs" (KJV)
Now God made Daniel to find favor, compassion and loving-kindness with the chief of the eunuchs" (Amplified Bible)
Now, as it happens, God had given the superintendent a special appreciation for Daniel and sympathy for his predicament" (Living Bible)
Then God granted Daniel favor and sympathy from the chief of the eunuchs" (Modern Language)
Though God had given Daniel the favor and sympathy of the chief chamberlain…" (New American Bible)
God made Ashpenaz want to be kind and merciful to Daniel" (New Century Version)
And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs" (Revised Standard Version)
God caused the master to look on Daniel with kindness and goodwill" (Revised English Version)
    Ahh Myths….

Re: ThingsthatmakeyousayWHAT – What makes me a Christian is knowing that before God I will always all short, and that I am a sinner. And that as a sinner I have no right to judge or damn anyone on this earth because we are all sinners. I'm not claiming to be perfect, because i reconize as a Christian that I will never be perfect, but I try my best to live my life as Jesus would want me to…Does that help answer your question? I also beleive that there is a big difference between religion and faith, and I consider myself to be a faithful person.

    Re: KevinK – 84 & 86
I think you don't get your own beliefs in your myth and I know your not willing to except truth and reality the your belief is a easily disprove.
You would have to make judgment to determine that ones love is a sinful behavior.
The whole point of Matthew 7 is your not meant to judge others you are meant to determine your own relationship with your mythical god and living up to what you believe the book say's.
That's why the book says if you JUDGE will be judged by others The next bit says don't look for faults in your brother look at your own.
So I call bullshit on your statement
You wrote: "I am not worried about Christianity accepting her, as I am her accepting Christianity. You cannot be a Christian, and justify a sinful life at the same time."
If being Christian means you cant love the person you love and be true to yourself then what a shit belief!
If your book said men can only love men would you follow it ?
Would you turn gay ? Would you deny your truth and right to love and happiness ?
Ask your church what 'arsenokoitai' means… what does it translate too!

    My bad post should read:

Re: PostraFee – It would seem that you are the hypocrite here. You are a self-professed atheist, so to support your own stance, you cast aspersions on the Christian faith without much knowledge of it's actual teachings. To be a true atheist, you are not anti-religious, you simply don't believe in any religion, thus would have no opinion on those who are religious. Your determination to pigionhole the Christians into your tidy little opinion on what they should or should not believe belies your own assertion. If you actually knew anything about Christian faith, you'd know that there are many factions, not simply Catholicism. To often, people like to blanket the entire Christian faith into the Catholics often narrow minded view of things. Yes, the Bible may state in one part that homosexuality is a sin, but one of the ten commandments states to "love thy neighbor as thyself". It does not say "love thy neighbor as thyself, unless he/she is gay". So no, you are wrong in stating that Christians can't pick and choose what they believe, it is a matter of following what the Bible's lessons are, and intent for leading a good life is, not in nitpicking each and every "literal" translation, many of which may no longer apply to today's world.

Re: kugar – Wow … truly one of the dumbest statements ever written. Do you believe that the Earth is round?? Wow, what an idiot. You believe man can actually fly?? What a fool. You think man can reach the moon?? Are you insane?! Yeah, that's just crazy to think there could be a God huh? Lord knows nothing else man has ever believed could be wrong.

I suppose you believe that nothing exploded one day and became everything?? Yeah, the "Big Bang" theory … that makes sooooo much more sense. Very believable.

Good for you Jennifer! Rock on!

Re: Aussieone – You like to type a lot, but you seem to actually know very little. You point out that "myths change". Translations changing have nothing to do with the story changing. Your own writing illustrates the opposite of what you intended it to. The translations were all different, as they often will be, but the meaning stayed the same in them all. The only myth here, is in that you want it to be one, you proved nothing at all. You seem to also ignore the fact that science has consistently proven passage after passage of the Bible true by archeological findings year after year. You can believe, or not believe anything you like, that's your right and choice. But please don't insult us all by trying to pass off your own opinions as facts or "proof". And please stop repasting your same tired list of scriptures again and again every time a religious entry comes up. It is not necessary to take a literal translation of every single passage, nor is it taught to do that. Even the devil can quote scripture to suit his own needs.

  99. 99

    Re: Unbelievable!
No one can be that unintelligent to not understand how translation can totally change a story.. See post 57
When you wrote: "You like to type a lot, but you seem to actually know very little." I THINK YOU MUST HAVE BEEN TALKING TO YOURSELF!
Being an atheist has nothing to do with not having an opinion on religion and make no one a hypocrite. knowing YOUR GOD MYTH IS JUST A STUPID MYTH doesn't mean you can't have an opinion on it!
The bible says the world "has four ends and four corners" pick up a globe of the earth and find them!
Only in America is the big bang referred to as a theory!
The evidence for evolution is undeniable….
N.A.S.A. and E.S.A have both documented the death of stars spew out atoms that are the building blocks of life.
Just as All of the Hawaiian islands were formed by volcanoes erupting from the sea floor from a magma source.
The death of these stars release the atoms that make planets, trees, thimbles, your left foot, etc. all these are the remnants of of these exploding stars.
Don't rant on to me about the devil he is from your childish myth not mine!
And Ill post what I want when I want THANKS!

  100. 100

We are all made of stars.
No god (or super-cosmic intelligence) necessary. Action and reaction…
Single-celled microorganisms were the first forms of life to develop on Earth
The same thing found by NASA in martian rocks when Bill Clinton announced microbial life.
