Robert DeNiro Wants To Make A Sequel To Taxi Driver

Is this really necessary?

Robert De Niro recently revealed that he was talking to Taxi Driver director Martin Scorsese and writer Paul Schrader about his iconic character from the film, Travis Bickle. He said:

"I have talked to writer Paul Schrader and Marty. We've spoken about what would happen to Travis these years later. We had a thing and we tried to figure it out; Paul was trying to come up with something. And it just didn't seem to work.

"You never know - something could come up. I thought it would be interesting to find a way to bring Travis back all these years later - maybe with something ironic about where he'd end up, as he did in the first one. All these years later, maybe we could. It's still possible."

Just because it's possible, doesn't mean it should happen.

How ’bout something original, Bobby?!

You must be talkin to me! This sounds so lame, you have to be kidding! I guess if you get all the old players, Martin Scorsese, Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepard and Harvey Keitel, I still would wait for the DVD!

He's not needing money is he???? If he pops up on 'dancing with the stars' I will just die.

Oh I have an idea: a prequel to Wizard of Oz! Perez would adore that! So original.

    Re: iloverickymartin – LOLROFLMAO that's a goodie

De Niro is the best, I would be first in line to see a Taxi Driver sequel.

Re: curiousred – REALLY, mario applauds that crap and all the re dos out there. so what is wrong with what DeNiro is talking about? it is original, unless someone else has done it…. NOPE, no one else has.

I'd rather see a sequel to Mean Streets :)

I don't think DeNiro has the theater draw power he used to have. Remember that movie with him and Pacino a couple of years ago? (Not "Heat". They played 2 cops. I forget the name). Anyway, that was hyped to be the biggest thing since sliced bread and it did ZILCH at the box office. Wasn't all that good either. And I don't know of anyone under the age of 40 who's really that into him. I may be wrong but I'm 45 and I wouldn't run to the theater to see this. Maybe dvd.

Paul Schrader has mentioned before that "Taxi Driver," "American Gigolo," "Light Sleeper" and "The Walker" were all a series of examinations of basically the same character. So I don't really know what DeNiro is talking about here.
    =
I dunno. There are some movies that end on an ambiguous note that's absolutely perfect and shouldn't be changed, and "Taxi Driver" is one of those. Then again, so is "The Last Picture Show," and "Texasland" was actually pretty good.

Deniro is one of a kind no doubt about it but this sort of thing was in a time and a place when movie making and hollywood wasnt so polluted it just wouldnt work nowadays in order for movies to actually be good nobody would have to see it big budget and big advertisement is a sign of shitty movie making and unfotunatly also a sign of blockbuster hits which often dont deliver much.

Are you kidding me? Travis could have become a wealthy owner of a cab company and become a leader in the Tea Party movement and do some violent vigilante stuff (inspired by the cowards that threw bricks thru the windows of politicians that voted for the health care bill). I thought TP people were mostly blue collar working class folks like me but turns out they're middle to upper middle class people (many older) and are basically the new millenium's version of "the angry, white, male" of the 1990s, or they're the same AWMs twenty years later…still angry at the wrong people and not "working" towards change…just complaining about it and voting for the "other" party of whomever is in office (like that's what's going to make things better).

Tell Bobby DeNiro NO MORE TAXI DRIVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. 19

i don't think it'll be nearly as good as the original.
i hope he doesn't though b/c i'm pretty sure that movie will bomb

wow, a lot of hate going down here for ol bobby….personally i'd be interested in this as a story. Loved the first movie, and would be really interested to see what happened to the Travis character. If anyone could do this, it would be bobby and marty….nothing wrong at all for these two icons to want to revisit such a prominent character from their past…
and to folks that refer to hollywood and it's actors and directors as 'liberalwood' and other such brilliant terms, what sort of person are you that hangs out on a site that is obsessed with all things in the entertainment world, written by a gay man no less, then proceeds to rag on it for being too 'liberal'…..just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

anyhow, i'm all for another look at the travis bickle character…he was about as interesting a sociopath as i've ever seen on the screen…
lol, he might actually be the type that would refer to hollywood as 'liberalwood'
    ;)

i've seen the movie Taxi Driver 14 times, it's my favourite movie, but i really wouldn't be interested in a sequel, because it would probably ruin the first one! I really hope that tey don't make that.
