NBC Lost $223 Million On Olympics!

| Filed under: TV NewsBusiness Blitz

The Peacock can't do ANYTHING right this year!

Although the Winter Olympics brought $800 million to parent company General Electric, NBC is in the hole $250 million!

The network had a lot of production expenses. Not to mention the $820 million cost just to buy the rights to the Vancouver Games for TV and online.

Rating did improve 14 percent from the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, but it wasn't enough to bring the big $$$$!

Yikes!

so does this mean that they won't pay any corperate taxes like their Parent company GE.They operated at a loss in the U.S. and paid no taxes but made 4 billion dollars overseas!

there are 4 reasons why they lost so much money: 1. they were stupid to spend money on this when they had conan drama 2. canada? i'm just sayin' 3. alot of people dont watch nbc cause they are too liberal 3. no one watches the olympics, we watch Kardashians bitches!

The Olympics is a losing proposition for everyone. Athletes go into debt training, the host city has always lost millions and the network the broadcasts it loses money. Time to re-vamp the whole thing!

Re: HOLYGEEBUS – Thank you! NBC's coverage was terrible! They didn't air anything live; CBC was WAAAAAY better. And what an ignorant comment by backstreetboysarethebest, "canada? just sayin'" Which country survived the recession? Not you guys…. just sayin'…

Re: backstreetboysarethebest – i see it didnt take long for someone to blame Canada…dont be so bitter…

And had they made the DVDs (more sport specific-like figure skating) they could make a few more bucks.

  12. 12

They did a horrible job during the Games. Not shoing things live, and waiting til 11pm most nights for the "big events". And I'm in the same fricking time zone!

  13. 13

karma for fucking over conan. haha, I hope they go under, and take the Chin with them.

NBC can just ask one banker or wall street guy for their bonus for this year.

The Olympics is boring. The Olympics in Canada is extra boring. And before any of you jump down my throat, the Olympics in the USA is just as boring. The Olympics in ANY country is boring. In conclusion, the Olympics is boring.

Well, how could it if ad space was sold BEFORE the games aired?

The Olympic games, Summer and Winter, are a special event. Hence every four years. Now all these nonsense events have been added, muddling the whole thing. So people are not going to watch.

  21. 21

I guess we can expect even more commercials on tv now.

  22. 22

lol they were jokes. guess ya'all take stuff too seriously.

  23. 23

who doesn't watch the olympics? this is wrong. oh, the business of sports
