Michael Douglas Pleads For Drug-Dealing Son

We're not sure how much good this is going to do.

Actor Michael Douglas also submitted a hand-written letter to Judge Richard Berman, which his father Kirk Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones have already done, in hopes that the judge will be lenient on his son Cameron Douglas.

Cameron is due to be sentenced today after pleading guilty to drug charges. Michael writes:

"I love my son, but I'm not blind to his actions. I don't want to see him break. He is an adult and responsible for his own actions. We do know, however, that genes, family and peer pressure are a strong influence on a substance abuser.

"I have some idea of the pressure of finding your own identity with a famous father. I'm not sure I can comprehend it with two generations to deal with. Cameron grew up a single child in a bad marriage. Cameron found his family in the gang mentality.

"He's sober. I get to witness the wonderful young man he can be. He maintains his spirit, blames no one but himself and recognizes his criminal activity began with his heroin use."

We'll have to see what fate awaits Cameron today, but we don't think his family's excuses are going to gain him any sympathy from the judge when he has pleaded guilty to the crime.

What do U think?

I think the judge is going to give him the minimum - 10 years. And if he really was selling crystal meth, he deserves it. I have no problem with people doing drugs really, but meth is such a bad drug I do have a problem with the dealers. Stick with the weed, Kid! I also think having your famous family write letters on your behalf might backfire. The judge may bend over backwards to look uninfluenced by the celebrity egos involved.

Michael Douglas and his ex wife have to take some responsibility for not being good parents. He needs to serve his time helping people and staying in a sober program other wise we just get a smart criminal when he get's out.

I'm sure Michael's former wife will be delighted to hear his impression of their marriage while it existed. It may have turned 'bad' later, but who helped that along? He's not very diplomatic or kind about a marriage that was a contributing part of his past and present, but will use it to suit the agenda. He would be expected to go to bat for his son now, considering. Otherwise, it's a pointed and heartfelt statement. He'll have years to think about going to bat for Cameron before this all happened.

i agree with his first paragraph.
however, i have to say this may be the only thing that could help cameron.
    he's got to straighten up

What are you talking about? Are you dumb?
If Douglas shows remorse and pleas guilty instead of innocent, it is much more likely the judge will be more sympathetic towards him.
That is pretty standard through the common law justice system.

    Good work, Sherlock.
