Mo’Nique "Not Happy" Oprah Interviewed Her Brother

| Filed under: Oprah WinfreySad Sad

We're sure it was a hard thing to listen to and watch.

Mo’Nique's brother, Gerald Imes was on The Oprah Winfrey Show earlier this week, attempting to apologize and provide insight on the many years he sexually molested his younger sister.

Though originally she gave Oprah her blessing, sources say that Mo'Nique is "not happy" with the direction the interview took. Supposedly, Mo'Nique feels that her brother lied about many of details about the abuse and was not "sympathetic enough towards her."

In particular, Mo'Nique was upset to hear Gerald claim that he molested his sister while she was asleep. According to sources close to her, she has always said that she was “wide awake and scared of him."

Now, instead of bridging the gap between the family, Mo'Nique is said to want nothing to do with any of them again and refuses to speak to them. She also allegedly declining to appear on Oprah's show again because of how the interview was handled.

Tsk, tsk. Don't take it too personally, O. You might not have asked the right questions, but he's the one who really should feel the shame!

Agree. He was totally there to make himself look not so bad. Fail. He's a monster.

  2. 2

She SHOULD HAVE told Oprah before the interview took place that she did not want him on national tv. Oprah called her before the interview even took place and she gave her her permission to do the interview. Monique is exposing herself as a LIAR!

  3. 3

No fucking kidding she's not happy!! I watched that interview and he still came off non-apolgetic and creepy as fuck. His brother that was in the audience next to the parents was literally smiling and laughing, saying (as well as the parents mind you) "that it doesnt make sense how she could act like everything was ok back when they were younger and then after all these years start saying this stuff about the older brother etc etc".

Best decision she ever made was to cut those people out of her life

Oprah Winfrey should be ashamed of herself for spotlighting a pedophile. But suddenly its okay for her to do this because now her own credibility is called into question with the revelations of the new biography on her life. Oprah is a big FAT hypocrite who cares for NO ONE. She has all the money and power in the world and yet she wants to make every one believe she cares for them. Well she has crossed the line from credibility to insanity and still everyone will want to munch off that horrific piece of shit's plate. Oprah is so OVER!

  5. 5

What the H did she think was going to happen. It's an interview. Questions are asked. Answers are given. That's how it works. If she was that worried about it she shouldn't have given Oprah permission to do the interview.

  6. 6

I thought the interview was a bunch of BULLSHIT! He kept trying to defend himself by saying he was abused too! That still doesn't give him the right. After watching now I know why Monique doesn't talk to her family!!

  7. 7

Maybe Monique should just go on with Oprah and clear some stuff up. Monique and her brother are the only ones who really know what happened. How is Oprah suppose to know when and about what he was lying?

  8. 8

so this guy's claim to fame is that he molested his sister!!?? Why was he even on TV? Blessing or not…. this is by far one of Oprah's lowest moments.

  9. 9

He is terrible and dicusting and I find Oprah annoying. Disagree, I do not care. But when she interviewed the lady who was attacked by the chimp, well, I lost all my respect for her. She was asking totally unecessary and she was reminding her of things she definately didn't need to remember and didn't want to.

  10. 10

She's right to be pissed and i think that this family should rot in jail.

  11. 11

Monique needs to get back at oprah, tell the magazines what everybody inside the industry already knows…that she's a lesbian.

  12. 12

They all need to STFU and stop airing their private family issues in public. And because Perez is a gutless, nutless twerp who wouldn't post what I said originally, I'm going to say this: If Mo'Nique doesn't like how this has been handled, then she should've kept her damn mouth shut. I know everyone is supposed to feel sorry for her, but I don't feel sorry for someone who opens a can of worms like this and then whines about the results. Is she a victim? Yes. But she didn't need to share, and I'm tired of hearing about it. They all need to spend time with an army of therapists, not an army of press.

  13. 13

I saw the show. He is creep! Glad Mo'Nique was able to rise above it all. This is horrible. He seemed a little too smug for me. He should have taken all that to his sister. Anyway, move on Mo'Nique. You are doing just fine.

  14. 14

Ok so Oprah is suppose to be better than Jerry Springer, Maury ect…but this interview is as low as I have ever seen. Actuallly, I did not watch but to even have this televised is beyond terrible.

  15. 15

    Re: SHANDAM – Agree.

  16. 16

At least she got SOMETHING from the person who did this to her. I got repeat performances from the man who raped me through childhood.

  17. 17

    Re: tania7 – - AGREE!

  18. 18

The interview should not have happened in the first place.

  19. 19

Mo'Nique, you're a beautiful woman, and an amazing role model to big girls everywhere. Know you are loved and supported by your fans, and you're so much better than this scumbag. You're strong and talented. Keep your chin up, babe!

  20. 20

Do "African Americans" always feel this open about airing their dirty laundry in front of such a wide audience?

Oh wait…this show is no different than Jerry Springer.

  21. 21

"Tsk, tsk. Don't take it too personally" whoever wrote this you are an idiot. what a douche think to say…

  22. 22

GIVE ME A BREAK. MONIQUE HAS SEX WITH HER BROTHER FOR TWO YEARS, NEVER TELLS ANYONE ABOUT IT AND WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE SHE WASNT COMPLICIT? THIS IS THE SAME WOMAN THAT BRAGS ABOUT HAVING AN OPEN MARRIAGE AND WHO HAS BEEN MARRIED THREE TIMES AND HAS HAS KIDS WITH MANY DIFFERENT FATHERS. MONIQUE YOU CANT DENT WHAT YOU ARE, WHICH IS A FILTHY SEX LOVING FAT HOG. DONT BLAME YOUR BROTHER FOR THE SICK CHOICE YOU MADE

  23. 23

MONIQUE IS BUTT UGLY AND SHE DOESNT SHAVE. NO WONDER SHE HAD TO SETTLE FOR SEX FROM HER BROTHER. SHES LUCKY ANY MAN WOULD DO HER,

  24. 24

that is a beautiful picture of her

  25. 25

Well…Mo'Nique is a talented superstar and her brother is still a creepy pedophile. Well played, Mo'Nique…well played :)

  26. 26

    Oh to hell with Oprah.

  27. 27

Maybe people should stop airing their dirty laundry on Oprah? Why was this even necessary? All Saint Oprah is looking for is ratings and Monique should have known better.

  28. 28

SHE COMMITS THE ULTIMATE ACT OF PERVERSION–SHE SCREWS HER OWN BROTHER AND BRAGS ABOUT IT TO GET FAMOUS. HOW SICK

  29. 29

Everyone reading this site, including me, is guilty of creating the demand for this stuff.

  30. 30

she is totally within her rights to be pissed. she should have been given a lot more control over the interview. she should have seen it before it aired, have the chance to veto it right up til air. this was all about giving him the chace to speak up - the last thing a sexual offender should be given is more power over their victim. itslike givnig the guy a free pass to abuse again. this could go horribly wrong.

  31. 31

That dude is one sick fuck, of course according to the liberal dictionary they think child molestors are able to be "fixed" or rehabilitated. I'm sure they feel this way just because half of them are molestors themselves.

  32. 32

MONIQUE U CAme out too late with this nonsense
at least when HELP WAS OFFERED U DECLINED
    U AIRED UR DIRT LAUNDRY
    FOR 10 SEC OF FAME
AS FOR OPRAH WHAT DID U EXPECT
U THOUGHT SHE WOULD GO EASY
WHEN SHE IS A GOOD LIAR
USING THE PAIN OF TRUE VITCIMS OF MOLESTATION TO GAIN MORE RATING
    SHAME ON YOU
MONIQUE HOPE U ARE HAPPY ,FOR MAKING YOURSELF AND YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY MISERABLE FOR PRECIOUS /OSCAR SAKE
    SHAME ON YOU
    AT 42 ,MOVE ON

  33. @v@ says – reply to this

    33

An interview like that is inherently vulture stuff. I didn't like it; it gave him a platform. Monique has good instincts, and is probably feeling like a victim again.
    Hold your head up, girl.

  34. 34

Fuck that stupid hairy leg gorilla… She is milking this shit for the PR. She didnt have to out that problem for the entire world to know about. Funny as soon as she finally hits it big she brews up that to get a little extra sympathy. What her brother did was wrong and disgusting, but milking it for the public and your career or lack there of is pathetic.

  35. 35

Actually, O should be ashamed. It was sensationalistic crap.

  36. 36

Mo'Nique - we all saw your brother for what he was. A monster. You are an amazing person and we all stand behind you!!

  37. 37

    Re: h8terboi
    your discusting

  38. 38

Re: h8terboi – YOU NEED HELP you are sooooo evil!!! you are such a douchebag!!!! FUCK YOU YOU LOSER you have no idea what someone goes through when they are molested someone should rape you so you can see what it feels like when someone says the shit you say!!!

  39. 39

i agree with Mo’Nique; Oprah was outline in butting into such deep and traumatic personal history…

  40. 40

I was the victim of molestation and it did take a while for me to start opening up about it because I thought people would feel some way about me, like it was fault. But I did it and I'm 23 Monique you are 42, really GTFO it I forgave my MONSTERSSSSSS and moved on and I might spend everyday with them but I still see them and I never got I'm sorry or anything they just act like it never happened. You have been famous for to long for you just to be saying something and did you really have to put hiss name out there I mean really but you are mad at him. Money and status changes people and she been trippin ever since she been with this what 3rd husband SMH. It's only hurting you. I don't watch Oprah but I respect she ask permission from her before moving forward and Monique said yes so don't be mad because you opened the wound back up, now close it and grow. Men come and go family is forever and if you don't want to talk to your brother OK but your parents, really?

  41. 41

She should have told Oprah the questions she wanted her to ask. Anyway Orpah is always in some one business but don't want no one in hers. As everyone can see Oprah is a hypocrite. People needs to stop going on Oprah or any talk show telling their private lives to the world,

  42. 42

Oprah should have been more sensitive to Mo'Nique. Being molested is a very difficult thing to talk about, let alone hear it from the source on national television. Once again, Oprah has shown her tactlessness.

  43. 43

Re: h8terboi – Again," Keep it pushing :) SIMF".

  44. 44

Oprah asked her if it was okay. Mo said yes. She couldn't help if her brother was going to be smug and try shifting the blame to everyone else. Anyone knows that a person of such poor character as Gerald Imes would try to deflect his actions. Mo'nique can't be angry that he didn't come out and say that he was wrong and that he did her terribly. Oprah did her job..she interviewed the man!

Re: eadgbe – Thanks for your honesty!
