No Torchwood

At least for now!

Fox and BBC Worldwide have agreed not to go forward with their plans for a US version of popular UK show Torchwood. BBC is hoping to find a new partner for the project and say they are talking to other interested networks.

BBC Worldwide's executie VP of programming and production Jane Tranter adds, "It's very much ongoing and very much alive."

As for a stateside version of Dr. Who, don't hold your breath. Tranter says:

"It may well be confusing to have a British Doctor and an American Doctor at the same time. There is only one Doctor, so I don't see that happening."

Do U want to see Torchwood come to the US?

why not just have the orginal doctor who/torchwood air on fox

  2. 2

Why does their need to be a US version. The British version is good and Captain Jack is AWESOME.

  3. 3

Isn't Bret Michaels' brain hemorrhage more important than this? When are you going to report on that?

  4. 4

    Bummer. Would've been kinda sweet.

  5. 5

i hope they don't ruin two great show by making them in the us. they have fucked up so many others. thank god AbFab never went through. I would definitely not watch the American version if they ever make one.

  6. 6

    torchwood was awesome

This is the best news ever! I know most people on here don't care, but srsly! The thought of Torchwood leaving Cardiff just doesn't work for me. When it was first reported as a possibility I was soooo bummed! I really hope this is true and it's not coming stateside. I'm getting my Capt Jack fill right now on Desperate Housewives. I love you, John Barrowman!!!

A US version of Torchwood just doesn't make sense. The show is a spin-off. Why would they remake a spin-off? Its like if they made a British version of Angel without mention of Buffy. Just doesn't make sense.

This makes me sad. :( I want more!!!

Re: Rtarara – Yes! Yes he is!

  11. 11

oh big surprise, BBC doesn't want to work with fox XD I find that too funny!

  12. 12

Doctor Who, not "Dr." It's a name, not a title.

I would have enjoyed a US spin-off, but I'll take whatever I can gets.

  13. 13

Yes, why not just air the BBC version here. The production value is excellent, and Captain Jack–yowsa!

  14. 14

I am head over heels in love with John Barrowman, but I admit I'm glad that FOX won't get a chance to muck up Torchwood.

  15. 15

I'd like to see more of that universe. Why not?

  16. 16

NO, I want the original Torchwood and just air the bloody thing in North America! The accents aren't THAT hard to understand. That IS why they do the US versions isn't it? meh. phbthtbtbhpt! I do hope Torchwood comes back for another season.

  17. 17

why do they have to dumb everything down for americans?

  18. 18

I'm relieved. Of the big four networks, FOX would've been the best home for it, but really - I wish they'd just import the original as-is.

  19. 19

I'm to the point of I don't give a shit how they make it, just bring back Captain Jack, Gwen and you have to have Rhys!!!!!!!

  20. 20

Dr. Who and Torchwood - both great shows - are already on BBC America. You cant beat the Brit casts. Why risk the US screwing up yet another foreign hit? If the producers need US investment, they should check with Showtime or HBO and do it as a joint project.

  21. 21

I agree with Diva-Babe Why not just air it HERE in the US withOUT editing it!

  22. 22

I just know that the American version of Captain Jack Harkness would suck ass so I'm glad it may not be happening.

  23. 23

This makes me very happy! Now they won't have a chance to fuck it up!

  24. 24

yes, continue the British series, but for God's sake - DON'T ATTEMPT TO MAKE AN "AMERICANIZED" VERSION!!!

  25. 25

As a Brit, I would prefer this not to be remade in the US…..when we remake US, or vice versa, it just doesn't seem to work out well

  26. 26

oh for christ sake GET IT RIGHT MARIO !!! 1) NOT A REMAKE….. Julie Gardner and Russell T Davies had signed on to do the show. They are the ORIGINAL BBC Writer/Creator and Exec Producer !!! 2) It WAS TO BE A CONTINUATION of the series but set in the US since they BLEW UP 4 torchwood hubs between Doctor Who & The series 3) Gwen, Jack and Rhys had all expressed a desire to continue with Julie and Russell at the helm….LAST The ONLY DOCTOR has a pilot for Fox in the works and will be in LA and he has also expressed a desire to reprise the role for Torchwood cameo. AND NO there won't be a US Doctor Who but DO NOT rule out a movie with the 10th Doctor and captain Jack just yet either. Rumor has it will be a stand alone episode in the 10th Doctors time line .

  27. 27

    Thank fuckin god!!

  28. 28

NO NO NO NO! THIS should NEVER happen. It's a UK show and thats where it should stay.

  29. 29

I love the US - but please stop taking our tv shows and turning it American! If you must, leave this show alone and take EastEnders instead.

  30. 30

    stop ripping off our shows

  31. 31

Just air the originals on the SciFi channel like they do with Doctor Who.

  32. 32

Why does there need to be an American Version? Doctor Who is one of the best shows,EVER !

  33. 33

Why not just having the original one ? Why always make an american version of a popupal show/flick ? It's unerving, really. I think there's enough american production, they don't have to stole other countries good ones to make their own version, really u_u"
