Russell Brand Shacks Up With Helen Mirren

| Filed under: Film FlickersRussell Brand

And we think Katy Perry will approve!

Another remake is hitting the big screen, this time of Dudley Moore's classic Arthur.

The 1981 comedy about a rich playboy who gets cut off from his parents will be reimagined with Russell Brand playing the lead and Helen Mirren starring opposite him as his longtime nanny.

Never would have thought to put them together. Hopefully, it'll turn out funnier than we think it will.

    I can definitely see that!

  2. 2

Russell Brand is vile, surely Helen Mirren knows she is a million times better than this?

  3. 3

Russell Brand is such a fucking douchebag, god I loathe british "comedy"

While I love Helen Mirren and Russell Brand, I can't understand why Helen moans about her infamous tattoo on her hand, which she had done in a drunken stupor decades ago…There's laser surgery if you want that tiny, not even an inch in size, tattoo removed. And god knows she can afford it. Attention is what she gets w/ that tat… just sayin' Helen… ;)

Liberalwood has no new ideas. Even Avitar was a remake of "Dances With Wolves"

  6. 6

As long as Jonah Hill isn't in it, it'll be fine…and funny.

  7. 7

No movie can replace the original.

I would LUVS to see it!

  10. 10

I love them both, but another remake… Really? Is that necessary? Does no one have an original thought, why all these remakes?

  11. 11

as long as they have sex it will be great!

  12. 12

everything he is in turns to crap. he can't act and he is not funny.

  13. 13

This remake can suck a hairy dudes nuts on a 110 degree day! WTF?

I wouldn't pay to see this hogwash bullshit. The original Arthur is untouchable! This is a stupid idea, and I hope it fails and goes down in flames like the wreck it ALREADY is. Shame on any actor who signed on to do this, they should be ashamed of themselves!

    Arthur is a goddamned classic!

sounds like this could be good/funny.

The original was one of my favs as a youngin, i think russell is hilarious and a newer version of a classic with someone who is good looking and actually looks like a play boy is sounds terrific. I hope they dont fuck it up by casting someone shitty to reprise the role played by Liza. I'm definitely looking forward to this one coming out.

To all the haters at least they didn't pick that douche hugh grant

this joker can't hold a candle to the kind of talent Dudley Moore had. the (negative) comparisons are inevitable.

Re: shittin_condoms – Russel Brand is hardly the epitome of British comedy. Just because British comedy isn't all slap stick and two syllable words, doesn't mean that British people are not funny.

Helen better watch herself, we all know what a sex crazed shagger he is. Katy would be glad for the rest, lol

fuckin come up with something new assholes

  20. 20

He said some rather obscene thing about her in his stand-up show.

  21. 21

Directors that do remakes should eat plates of diarrhea. The original with Dudley & Liza is a PRICELESS CLASSIC. Don't fuck with it. (as Martha Back would say)

Re: shittin_condoms – americans think their version of the office is funny. that alone says a lot about yank humour

  23. Kate! says – reply to this

ARTHUR, the original, was a huge success. Why a remake, although Helen Mirren is the 8th wonder of the world, I can just see her as the nanny. That role was played by Sir John Gielguld in the original. Will she be able to be as good as he was, that remains to be seen.

  25. 25

yay!!!!!!!I love Russell!I'm sure he would be magnificent!

  26. 26

    Brilliant!!Excellent news!So happy for Russell!!

LOVE Russell and Helen…but am I the only one that thinks this is the worst "reimagining" idea since "Clash of the Titans"? These are good talents, IMAGINE a new sceenplay/movie for them instead of this classic.

  30. 30

I'm not a fan of remakes, but this one has potential to be brilliant!

  31. 31

The first one wasn't too good (in my opinion) so I seriously doubt this one will be as well.

  32. 32

Helen Mirren can hang with anyone! This should be good.
